The local army formation at Raiwala, located approx 15 km from Haridwar has institutionalised the mechanism to facilitate smooth conduct of ceremonies associated with the last rites. A Surya Defence Guidance Cell (SDGC) has been established at Haridwar to provide all the required assistance to the bereaved families in terms of suitable pandit, accommodation, transportation and any other guidance required by them.

2 2 FENCE GUIDANCE SURYA CELL (SDGC) DEFENCE GUIDANCE CELL (SDGC) What is SDGC? As part of welfare activity, a liaison cell on non-profit basis has been established at Raiwala to coordinate all aspects for smooth conduct of ceremonies associated with the last rites by the service personnel and veterans on request at Haridwar. Functions of SDGC To act as a facilitator providing all relevant information associated with performing the last rites to include details of ghats, facilities available, pundits, hotels/ dharamsala, taxi fares etc. To be an effective interface between the defence personnel seeking the services and the numerous civilian agencies providing the services. It will tie up with the service providers for subsidised services, where possible. Facilities Provided A helpdesk has been set up under the aegis of the local fmn at Raiwala. All queries with regard to Air/Rail/Road travel to Haridwar, stay, local transport, availability of pundits, conduct of rites and fees would be answered and guidance provided accordingly. Liaison on request would be provided right from reception to departure of families. Tie up with clan based pandits to perform last rites at short notice. Accommodation can be arranged at the existing dharmshalas / hotels at Haridwaror at the guest rooms at Raiwala as per requirement and availability on cash payment. Fees and Expenditure Rough estimate of expenditure inclusive of stay, local transport and fees for pandits is around Rs 2500/-. Further variations and breakdown of this amount is available with the helpdesk. An advance amt of Rs 500/- is required to be deposited in PNB Raiwala Account No as non-refundable security for a sponsored conduct, which will be adjusted against the payment. 9 9 ACCOMODATION 4. Accommodation and Messing. Adequate accommodation in terms of dharamshalas and hotels exists in Haridwar, near the Ganges. A tie up with such accommodation exists with the helpdesk which can cater for the requirements of those desirous, within the religious framework of a person having completed submersion of ashes before checking in. Accommodation for Officers and JCOs/OR is also available at Raiwala which is about 15 km from Haridwar. The same can be requested and provided depending on availability and first come first serve basis. In case a person seeks assistance of SDGC in terms of conduct of entire trip as per procedure, the same can be organised by having a tie up with various civil agencies to include pandits, hotels / dharamshala owners, taxi owners. The same will include the following:- (a) Facilitate reception at the Airport / Railway Station / Bus Stand or at pre- designated place (in case the person is coming by own / hired transport) by the transport agency earmarked.

Organising asthivisarjan ceremony at KankhalGhat / HarKi Pauri by tying up with Organising pinddaan ceremony at Har Ki Pauri by tieing up with clan pandit. Messing / meals at suitable local restaurant. (f) Accommodation in dharamshalas / economy or luxury hotels at Haridwar or Army guestrooms at Raiwala. (g) Assistance regarding religious tourism in and around Haridwar in case asked for. 6. The conduct of trip will generally involve an estimated expenditure of Rs 2,500/- approximately. The breakdown of same is as under. (a) CHT - Rs 800/- per day. (b) Hiring of pandit for Asthivisarjan including Samagri - Rs 650/-. (c) Pind Daan including Samagri - Rs 650/-. (d) (e) Accommodation plus messing - Rs 600/- per day. The total expenditure will be - Rs 2,700/- approximately (excluding Dakshina). Those desirous of utilizing the facilities of SDGC for the sponsored conduct of the trip, are required to send in a confirmation amount of Rs 500/- (Rupees five hundred only) in advance.
