Kharkiv 2010 is the first time that a Routes event has been held in the CIS and will provide airlines and airports with the perfect platform to do business and improve the region s air transport networks. 2

3 Routes CIS is the only network planning event for the CIS region Routes comes to the CIS With the present and planned growth in air travel within the Commonwealth of Independent States (or CIS), linked with Routes commitment to developing air transport links on a global basis, Routes is pleased to announce Routes CIS The event will take place in Kharkiv, Ukraine, 7-9 June 2010 at the brand new terminal at Kharkiv International Airport. With the exciting developments in Ukraine, together with the joint hosting of the European Football Championships in 2012, Routes is delighted to invite delegates who have an interest in fl ying to, from and within the CIS region to join us in Kharkiv at this inaugural event. Not only will Routes CIS be a fi rst for this region but Kharkiv 2010 will be the fi rst Routes event to be actually held in an airport terminal! This is a unique opportunity to discover the potential of a rapidly developing market as the economic global recovery process continues and airlines start planning for expansion again. Routes CIS will become the region s annual route development forum and will also help the CIS s airports and airlines prepare for World Routes, in Vancouver, September About Kharkiv Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine and is located to the Northeast of the country. It is a major cultural, scientifi c, educational, transport and industrial centre. There are more than 380 industrial enterprises concentrated in the city. These enterprises form machine-building, electrotechnical, instrument-making and energy clusters. Kharkiv is one of the most prolifi c centres of higher education and research of Eastern Europe. The city has 13 national universities and numerous professional, technical and private higher education institutions, offering its students a wide range of disciplines. A total number of 150,000 students attend the universities and other institutions of higher education in Kharkiv. About 9,000 foreign students from 96 countries study in the city. More than 17,000 faculty and research staff are employed in the institutions of higher education in Kharkiv. Today, Kharkiv is actively preparing to host the fi nal part of the EURO-2012 football championship, and currently this city is the leader in the number of realised projects. Kharkiv International Airport is one of the most important infrastructure elements, which will serve as the main gateway to EURO-2012 and Routes CIS delegates will be some of the fi rst guests to visit the new terminal development. 4 Who is it for? Airlines Airline attendees at Routes CIS have a responsibility for the development of new routes to, from and within the CIS region. They are open to learning about new market opportunities with airports and are prepared to discuss the technicalities involved in setting up a new route. It is vital that the airlines are able to discuss their existing air services within the region, devising strategies to maintain and improve them with appropriate airports. Airlines will be allocated a table in the Meeting Hall and this will be their base for the one-to-one meetings with the airports. Airports Attendees should have responsibility for business development within their airport, especially for their airline route network (its maintenance, its improvement and its expansion). They should be able to support any proposed new route, or the sustaining of an existing route, with bespoke data and analysis. 5 Routes CIS connecting with the right people Routes CIS will become the annual gathering of air service decision makers for the CIS region and comprises three days of networking opportunities, pre-scheduled one to-one meetings and a host of informal gatherings. Routes CIS is designed to help you develop and protect your air service network, it has five key elements; 1. The Formal Networking Airports and airline delegates meet privately to discuss new market opportunities and route recovery programmes at prescheduled face-to-face meetings. The meetings are arranged prior to the event based on delegate requests and a Personal Diary is issued on arrival. 2. The Informal Networking Routes CIS is designed to ensure all delegates are able to network to the maximum. This is facilitated through: - An Extra Meeting System that allows all delegates, during the event itself, to request meetings with any other delegate. - The Hospitality Programme, which includes the Welcome Reception, the Gala Dinner, the Lunches and the Refreshment Breaks during the working days. 3. The Strategy Forum The Routes CIS Strategy Forum is an integral part of Routes CIS and will take place inbetween the pre-scheduled meetings throughout the event. This will ensure that all delegates will be able to attend this free of charge conference and participate in open discussion and delegate debate. 4. City Pair Meeting Zone Any airport at Routes CIS can arrange unlimited meetings with other airports which they are targeting as potential city pairs. Better still, they can do this for FREE. City Pair Meetings can allow the two airports to; identify new opportunities, share ideas and approaches, exchange data and contacts, jointly plan city pair strategies and presentations. Above all, a City Pair Meeting will be a win-win for both airlines and airports. For airlines, it can give them a complete route picture without the need to reconcile data and have multiple meetings. For airports, it can lead to joint support packages, potentially saving valuable time and money. 5. Route Exchange Route Exchange is the online bidding platform for new routes. Currently with over 95 carriers requesting proposals online, Route Exchange features a growing presence for carriers in the CIS, such as Ural Airlines. Several carriers are also looking for new routes into the CIS region such as FlyDubai and Air Baltic. Route Exchange will also be hosting airline briefings at Routes CIS, where carriers such as Air Baltic will outline their plans for the CIS market with their Q400 aircraft, allowing airports to best understand the requirements of the carrier when analyzing potential new destinations. 6 CIS Strategy Forum The Strategy Forum is open to all delegates and will take the format of three moderator led panel discussions addressing topical air service issues for the CIS region. The Forum will be a lively event; there are no presentations, only open discussion with delegate debate following each session. So please come and join us for what promises to be a stimulating and enjoyable event. The forum will be split over 3 days allowing delegates the maximum opportunity to participate in the event in between their pre-scheduled one to one meetings. 7 Host - Kharkiv airport The airport s history began in 1923 with the foundation of a joint-stock company aiming to organize regular fl ights via Kharkiv. The new airport was built in 1932 and by 1936 it became the best in the USSR. The existing terminal was built after the Second World War and construction of the airport began in 1951, and its opening was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 300th anniversary of Ukraine and Russia reunifi cation (1954). By 1970, Kharkiv airport passenger fl ow had been 600,000. In 10 years the passenger fl ow increased to 900,000. The passenger fl ow decreased after the USSR disintegration. The new life for Kharkiv airport started in Than the airport was signifi cantly modernized, including the lengthening of runway and customs control establishment (before there wasn t any customs control because the airport was used only for domestic fl ights). The new International Kharkiv airport as an air communal enterprise, was founded in 2001 after the airport administration was devolved from Ukrainian transport ministry to Kharkiv city. From 1 April 2008 the communal enterprise International Kharkiv airport was granted on long-term lease to NSAM LTD ( NSAM LTD is a part of DCH investment management group, which is one of the biggest business groups in the Ukrainian market) with the purpose of Kharkiv air transport and communication system modernization until EURO In autumn 2008, the airport began major reconstruction. The modernization plan was developed. The modernization plan provides; runway lengthening up to 2,600 m with enlargement of PCN up to 60, new terminal construction with a total area of 20,000 sq.m, enlargement of passenger fl ow up to 850 thousand in 2011, transformation of existing terminal into the terminal for VIP passenger and the offi cial delegation reception hall, airport hotel reconstruction, widening of the square in front of the airport and construction of indoor parking for 180 cars. 9 Recommended Hotels Hotel Kharkov is the largest hotel in Kharkiv and is one of only two recommended official hotels for Routes CIS. The hotel is a modern hotel complex and located in the heart of the city of Kharkiv, on Svobody Square, the biggest square in Europe. Hotel Kharkov is 18km from the airport and just 5km from the railway station. The Aurora Hotel is a new business hotel in the old downtown but a few steps from Svobody Square. The Aurora is surrounded by luxury boutiques and is located near theatres and the Shevchenko city central park.
