AMERICA S AIRLINES UNDER THREAT. FOREIGN GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES HURT AMERICA. When governments and royal families of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar violated their Open Skies promise to the U.S. and gave over $52 billion in unfair handouts and subsidies to their state-owned airlines, they distorted competition and interfered with the U.S. aviation market and created an unlevel playing field. These unfair violations: Increased travel times Eliminated thousands of American jobs and billions of dollars in economic activity Stunted America s aviation industry s growth Limited America s presence internationally These Middle-Eastern airlines created a huge, unfair advantage allowing them to rapidly expand their fleets, take over international routes, steal market share, and shift good American jobs overseas. U.S. airlines can compete successfully against any airline in the world, but they can t compete against governments. FOREIGN SUBSIDIES MUST BE STOPPED. CHOICE CONVENIENCE MIDDLE-EASTERN SUBSIDIZED AIRLINES JOBS GROWTH CONNECTIVITY Cozying up to wealthy countries comes at a high cost to America s consumers, communities, aviation industry, and our country. AMERICA S WORKERS NEED EQUAL ACCESS AND A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD TO COMPETE. 1

AMERICA S CONSUMERS. NON-STOP FLIGHTS 17 DISCONTINUED OR FORGONE CHOICES TO AFRICA & ASIA DESTINATIONS ZERO IN THE PERSIAN GULF LESS FREQUENCY BETWEEN SMALL CITIES & HUBS 8,000 PASSENGERS IMPACTED EACH DAY IMPACTED PASSENGERS HAVE FLOWN AN EXTRA 2.3 BILLION MILES BECAUSE OF LOST NON-STOP FLIGHTS AND INEFFICIENT/LONGER ROUTINGS. WASTED TIME NON-STOP SERVICE REDUCES TRAVEL TIME, THEREBY PROVIDING BOTH BUSINESS TRAVELERS AND TOURISTS MORE PRODUCTIVE TIME AT THEIR DESTINATIONS. 3.4 MILLION MORE PASSENGERS PROJECTED TO BE IMPACTED OVER THE NEXT 5 YEARS. 2

AMERICA S COMMUNITIES. LOST FLIGHTS THREATEN OUR ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL VITALITY. WHERE AMERICA S AIRLINES LAND, SMALL TOWNS TAKE OFF. WHERE LARGE, FOREIGN SUBSIDIZED PLANES LAND, SMALL TOWNS SUFFER. U.S. AIRLINES CONNECT OUR SMALL TOWNS TO THE WORLD. They keep families together, medical care accessible, education possible They connect business to opportunity, culture to culture, idea to innovator DON T LET FOREIGN GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS WEAKEN AMERICA S CONNECTIVITY 282 SMALL COMMUNITIES 0 SMALL COMMUNITIES SERVED BY U.S. AIRLINES SERVED BY MID-EAST AIRLINES As U.S. airline flights are lost due to trade violations, seats once filled by international passengers from large hubs to small airports go empty and U.S. airlines may no longer afford to serve small communities. PROTECT AMERICA S SMALL TOWNS. 3

AMERICA S COMPANIES. LOST MARKET SHARE 75+ ROUTES WORLDWIDE LOST CAPACITY 4,800 SEATS PER DAY LOST INTERNATIONAL ROUTES NEARLY 20 LOST ABILITY TO COMPETE 0 FLIGHTS TO GULF, LESS TO INDIA U.S. AIRLINES ARE UNDER ATTACK AT HOME AND ABROAD As government subsidized carriers take over international routes, America s airlines are forced to discontinue flights, hurting hundreds of American companies and laying off thousands of American workers. To keep its businesses strong and protect thousands of good paying American jobs, America s airlines need equal access and a level playing field. OVER 1,500 GOOD PAYING AMERICAN JOBS LOST FOR EACH DISCONTINUED OR FORGONE INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT. THE TOP 3 U.S. AIRLINES EMPLOY OVER 1,500 U.S. WORKERS. MID-EAST CARRIERS EMPLOY ONLY 800 U.S. WORKERS. 4

AMERICA. OUR GLOBAL LEADERSHIP AND ECONOMIC STRENGTH ARE AT RISK. Strong U.S. airlines are important to America. Around the world, America s flagship airlines are strong global brands and powerful symbols of our country s economic strength and stability. COZYING UP TO WEALTHY MIDDLE-EASTERN COUNTRIES CAME AT A HIGH COST TO AMERICA S CONSUMERS, COMMUNITIES, ITS AVIATION INDUSTRY, AND OUR COUNTRY. 320,000 JOBS TOP U.S. AIRLINES ANNUAL PAYROLL OVER $30 BILLION. 30,000 MORE JOBS COULD BE LOST DUE TO DISCONTINUED OR FORGONE FLIGHTS. Qatar and UAE QATAR AND UAE CARRIER FLIGHTS TO U.S. DESTINATIONS vs. 0U.S. ZERO U.S. AIRLINE FLIGHTS TO QATAR AND UAE AND NOW ONLY TWO TO INDIA Despite the lopsided access, and significant harm to our country, the United States is the largest market to not restrict subsidized Middle-Eastern carriers. KEEP AMERICA STRONG. 5
