1 --PASSENGERS (IN MILLION)-- --PASSENGERS (IN MILLION)-- INTERNATIONAL AIR TRAFFIC STATISTICS April-June, 2017* There are 96 scheduled international carriers- 5 Indian carriers and 91 foreign carriers. Currently India has air connectivity with 59 countries through more than 300 routes. The scheduled international passenger traffic for the second quarter (April-June) of the year 2017 stands at 14.6 million while the international passenger traffic for the corresponding period in the year 2016 stood at 13.3 million thereby witnessing a growth of 9.8 per cent Chart 1: YEAR ON YEAR GROWTH IN INTERNATIONAL 13.3 It has been observed that all the three months of the second quarter of the year 2017 witnessed a positive growth in terms of the total number of international passengers carried as compared to the corresponding months in the second quarter of the year 2016 (Chart 1 & 2) Q2 APRIL MAY JUNE GROWTH Q (YoY): (+) 9.8% Apr, 2017 (YoY): (+) 1% May, 2017 (YoY): (+) 11.0% Jun, 2017 (YoY): (+) 8.5% Chart 2: COMPARISION OF MONTHWISE TREND IN TERMS OF INTERNATIONAL FOR THE YEARS 2016 & *Provisional

2 MARKET SHARE As can be seen from chart 3, the share of Indian and Foreign carriers in the total international passenger traffic during the second (April-June) of the year 2017 stands at 38 per cent and 62 per cent respectively. In the same Quarter (Q2) Chart 3: MARKET SHARE (%) OF INDIAN & FOREIGN CARRIERS IN TERMS OF INTERNATIONAL of the year 2016, the share of Indian and Foreign carriers was 37 and 63 percent respectively Top ten international carriers accounted for almost 60 per cent of the international passenger traffic during the second quarter of the year Jet airways carried the maximum number of international passengers followed by Air India and INDIAN CARRIERS FOREIGN CARRIERS Emirates airlines. All the 5 Indian Carriers viz. Air India, Air India Express, Indigo, Jet Airways and SpiceJet operating on International Routes, find place in the top 10 list (Chart 4). It may also be mentioned here that all the foreign carriers in the top 10 list originate from Gulf Countries. Chart 4: MARKET SHARE (%) OF TOP TEN CARRIERS IN TERMS OF INTERNATIONAL

3 More than half of the total passengers coming to India are accounted for by the countries in the region- Africa & Middle East (Chart 5). Same pattern is observed for the number of India s outbound passengers i.e. more than half of the total outbound passengers are accounted for by the countries in the region- Africa & Middle East (Chart 6). Chart 5: INDIA'S INBOUND INTERNATIONAL Chart 6: INDIA'S OUTBOUND INTERNATIONAL AFRICA & MIDDLE EAST PACIFIC AFRICA & MIDDLE EAST PACIFIC If we look at the specific countries within the region, it is found that maximum passengers are carried to and from United Arab Emirates (32.3 percent) followed by Singapore (7.4 percent) and Thailand and Oman (5.8 percent each) (Chart 7). Among European Countries, United Kingdom is one of the hottest destinations as there is about 4 percent international passengers travel to and from UK. 4 Out of the 24 Indian cities from where international passengers Embark/ Disembark, 5 Indian cities accounted for most (approximately 70 per cent) of the international passenger traffic (Chart 8). Delhi tops the position in this category with a share of 25.5 per cent followed by Mumbai (21.9 per cent share) and Chennai (8.7 per cent share). Domestic and foreign carriers connect India to 59 countries through more than 300 Routes. Out of these routes only 10 Routes accounted for approximately 20 per cent of the total international passenger traffic during the second quarter of the year Maximum international passengers were carried on the Dubai-Mumbai sector followed by Dubai-Delhi and Dubai-Kochi Chart 8: TOP FIVE INDIAN CITIES IN TERMS OF INTERNATIONAL PASSENGER TRAFFIC Chart 9: MARKET SHARE(%) OF INDIAN & FOREIGN CARRIERS IN TERMS OF INTERNATIONAL FREIGHT TRAFFIC As regard to freight, share of Indian and Foreign Carrier is about 21 percent and 79 percent respectively (Chart 9). Out of the total number of scheduled international carriers, top ten carriers accounted for almost 70 per cent of the international freight traffic during the second quarter of the year INDIAN CARRIERS FOREIGN CARRIERS April-June, 2017 Emirates carried the maximum freight with 13.0 per cent market share followed by Jet airways (10.7 per cent market share) and Qatar airways (10.3 per cent market share) during the second quarter of the year 2017 (Chart 10). Jet airways and Air India are among top five scheduled freight carriers with market shares of 10.7 per cent and 7.8 per cent respectively during the second quarter of the year Other Indian Carriers, carry approximately 2 percent of the total international freight traffic. 4

5 --SHARE OF FREIGHT (%)-- Chart 10: MARKET SHARE (%) OF TOP TEN CARRIERS IN TERMS OF INTERNATIONAL FREIGHT TRAFFIC April-June, As far as India s inbound freight traffic is concerned, Africa & Middle East tops the position with a share of 27.9 per cent followed by Europe (26.7 per cent share) and Asia Pacific (22.6 per cent share) during the second quarter of the year 2017 (Chart 11).
