5 Support for Purchase Recommendations in Adopted Plans A Park and Open Space Plan for Washington County The Plan recommends a fishing pier and boat access facilities on Friess Lake including road improvements, parking lots and grading. The Plan recommends the preservation of primary environmental corridors to accommodate parks or trail facilities proposed under the recommended outdoor recreation plan element. The properties are located within the Mid-Kettle Moraine Study Area identified for protecting the best remaining natural and scenic areas of the Kettle Moraine in Washington and Waukesha Counties. A Regional Park and Open Space Plan for Southeastern Wisconsin The Plan recommends that rivers and major lakes lakes with a surface area of 50 acres or more be provided with adequate public boat access consistent with safe and enjoyable participation in various boating activities.
6 Support for Purchase Recommendations in Adopted Plans A Multi-jurisdictional Comprehensive Plan for Washington County: 2035 Goal: Provide opportunities for residents to enjoy outdoor recreational activities. Objective: Provide an integrated system of public parks, trails, and related open space areas that will provide County residents with adequate opportunity to participate in a wide range of outdoor recreation activities. Policy: Implement the recommendations of the Washington County Park and Open Space Plan. Program: Continue to acquire park and open space sites, including the natural areas, recommended for County acquisition in the County park and open space plan, as funding becomes available. Program: Continue to apply for DNR Stewardship funds and other State and Federal funding for acquisition of parks and natural areas. Goal: Ensure the protection, sound use, and enhancement of the natural resource base in Washington County. Goal: Preserve primary environmental corridors and isolated natural resource areas in Washington County.
7 Support for Purchase Recommendations in Adopted Plans Wisconsin Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) Goal: Continue to provide and enhance public access to Wisconsin recreational lands and waters Actions: Continue to acquire and develop boating access sites to meet public boating needs. Continue to meet Americans with the Disabilities Act standards for accessibility to outdoor recreation facilities. Support community based efforts to increase access to outdoor recreation. Promote sustainable recreation facility design, construction, and maintenance practices.
8 Support for Purchase Public Support 2013 Online Survey of County residents Glacier Hills is one of top three most visited County Parks 2014 Mail Survey of County residents Fishing, hiking, and walking/running were identified in the top 5 activities respondents were interested in and participated in Public Outreach Events 74% of respondents expressed support for County acquisition of property adjacent to existing County parks 83.2% of respondents expressed support for County acquisition of additional park lands 2014 Telephone Survey of County residents 97.8% of respondents either strongly agreed or somewhat agreed that it is important to preserve open space for future generations.
