2 OUR STAFF & PHILOSOPHY We hire positive role models at our camp and we like to tell everyone that s why it s on our shirts. Our counselors are made up of high school & college students, teachers and adults with experiential learning, camping and recreational backgrounds. Our philosophy is that we must make the most of our opportunity to have a positive influence on the lives of our campers. Everything we do at camp is guided by the firm belief that we are responsible for the children we lead. Every day we teach our core values of honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, fun and friendship and we live by the motto Make a friend, make a summer. At Gordon Clark, we seek to provide our campers with a safe and engaging summer experience that builds community and the memories that will last a lifetime. The counselors create a positive environment for the kids. They connect well with the children and have a lot of energy. - Camp Parent My girls had fun, felt safe and made friends. - Camp Parent INCLUSION STARTS HERE At Camp Gordon Clark we support a traditional camp environment that is welcoming to all campers. By partnering with families and identified support systems, campers with diverse abilities will be provided with the opportunity for a successful camp experience. Through the National Inclusion Project partnership, we are able to offer inclusion training for all camp staff and group support by designated inclusion counselors under the guidance of the Inclusion Coordinator. Campers are fully integrated into this traditional day camp experience and should be able to participate independently into standard staff ratios (6 years and under 1:5, 7 years and above - 1:10). Camp Gordon Clark is an outdoor camp with natural terrain. Campers should be able to move between sites independently. In order to ensure success at camp, please indicate interest in accessing inclusion supports when registering for camp. A staff member will contact you to learn more about your child and to discuss the type of supports needed to make the experience successful for your camper. *If it is determined that a camper requires more supports than the established ratios our Inclusion Coordinator will work with the families to explore support options. Whether it is your first-time at Camp Gordon Clark or your tenth time, we would like to welcome you to an exciting summer of fun programs and life-long friendships. We strive to build a community where campers of all ages, races, and creeds feel welcomed and enabled to develop as youths and try new things. Camp Gordon Clark provides your campers with an incredible myriad of activities under the guidance of positive & mature role models. Camp has the ability to change people. It boosts confidence, self-esteem, builds social skills, encourages acceptance, and challenges campers to great things. 4 TRADITIONAL DAY CAMPS Ages: Grades K-10 Length: 9:00a 4:00p Location: South Shore YMCA Emilson See page 11 for camp dates and fees. These camps offer a fun, well-rounded camp experience with a little bit of everything. Campers are placed in co-ed groups by the grade they are entering in the fall where they have the opportunity to try new activities, learn from skill and make new friends - all under the supervision of enthusiastic role models. AGES 3-5 & GRADES K-6 ENTERING GRADES 8-10 Morning Explorers Ages 3-5 Ratio for all of these groups is 1:5 An exciting, introductory week long camping experience designed for our youngest campers. The activities and schedules are developmentally age appropriate and include daily swim. Morning Explorers gives young campers a great intro to the camp experience. Please note: Campers must be potty trained & this is a half day camp. Pioneers Entering K Trailblazers Grade 1 Pathfinders Grade 2 Rangers Grades 3 Campers will experience a week full of camp favorites including archery, arts & crafts, field sports, new games and drama among many other activities. Each co-ed group of 25 will have daily swim with a mix of instruction and free swim throughout the week. Each week campers will join in activities that build community and create positive, life-long memories. Navigators Grade 4 Mavericks Grade 5 Adventurers Grades 6 & 7 In addition to camp favorites, some new activities and an element of choice is introduced in the afternoons for our older campers. Campers will continue to have instructional and free swim as well as a variety of activities they will participate in throughout the week with their group. Activities will include traditional favorites, such as soccer, archery or four square or may include exciting new options like Zumba, ga-ga or climbing our SkyTrail Explorer. Voyagers Grades 8 & 9 The majority of Voyagers activities are held off-site and vary each session. Trips may include scavenger hunts, museum visits, laser tag and/or PawSox games. Trips and program leaders are carefully selected to ensure camper safety. This program is perfect for the teen seeking a different and exciting camp experience. Please note: Space is limited, please sign up as soon as possible. Leaders in Training Grade 10 or Age 15 The Leaders in Training (LIT) program teaches participants leadership skills. Activities include assisting camp groups and facilitating camp activities under the direction of senior camp staff. Emphasis on team building exercises and includes both classroom-style and experiential learning. LIT s will learn the skills necessary to become role models at camp, at school and in their community.! DROP OFF/ PICK UP INFO and Extended Day options All Ages In addition to our regular camp hours, we offer an extended care option, before and after the regular camp day, under the direct supervision of our staff. Registration for Extended Day options are on a weekly basis. We ask that early drop off and late pickup registrations are placed at least 2 weeks in advance to ensure proper staffing. 5 MATCH POINT TENNIS ACADEMIES Ages: Grades K-12 Length: Half Day 9:00a - 12:00p / Full Day 9:00a - 4:00p Location: South Shore YMCA Emilson See page 11 for camp dates and fees. FOR OVER A DECADE, our Match Point Tennis Camp and Tennis Academy has helped players of all ages and levels discover their game and make new friends. Newcomers to tennis will experience the game s basics through a combination of fitness, learning and games. Players with some experience will round out their games through games, drills and match play. Experienced players will improve through intensive drills, games, strategy sessions and match play. Each day we ll be mixing tennis with other activities, from swimming and soccer, to basketball and archery. Camp will offer both half day (9a-12p) and full day (9a-4p) options. Campers will be grouped by playing level and by ages 6-10 and 11+. Drop off and pick up for all of the below camps take place inside the YMCA Tennis Lobby unless arranged with the Match Point Tennis Academy Director. Early drop off and late pickup options are also available in conjunction with Camp Gordon Clark (see page 4 for details). Please note: Camp is limited to 40 players/session. 6 SPORTS CAMPS Ages: Grades K-8 Length: 9:00a 4:00p Location: South Shore YMCA Emilson See page 11 for camp dates and fees. Whether you are new to the sport or looking to improve your skill level, these camps offer something for everyone. Campers are grouped according to age and ability. Campers are required to wear appropriate athletic clothing and footwear for all sports camps. SPORTS CAMPS All Sports Camp Grades 1-3 Campers will sample three or more sports such as basketball, soccer and flag football and will develop their athletic skills in a positive, fun and organized learning atmosphere. Basketball Camp Grades 1-3 & 4-7 Work on individual skill development and play competitive games, putting what is taught into practice. Learn ball handling, passing shooting techniques, defense skills and the value of teamwork. Dodgeball Camp Grades 4-7 Campers will work on throwing, catching, ball shielding and dodging skills and play all their favorite games and discover some new ones. NFL Flag Camp Grades 1-3 & 4-7 Based on the NFL Flag Football Program, in this no-contact camp, children will learn the fundamental skills necessary to excel in football and receive fitness instruction to improve their game. Lacrosse Camp Grades 4-7 Come learn the basics of lacrosse with experienced coaches and staff. Campers will learn through skills, drills and scrimmages throughout the week. Equipment is not included, campers are required to bring their own stick. UK Elite Soccer Camp Grades K-3 & 4-7 Run by UK Elite Soccer. Daily skills competitions the first 4 days and our famous World Cup Soccer Festival ends the week. NEW! Olympic Sports Camp Grades 4-7 UK Elite is bringing possible future Olympic sports to local players. Each day will have a fun balance of instruction and play. A taste of sports that will be played each day include, but are not limited to: soccer, handball, pillow polo hockey, dodgeball, flag tag, t-ball/hit-and-run baseball, etc. CGC Tennis Camp Grades 4-8 Tennis lessons/play instructed by a certified tennis pro plus traditional day camp activities. Tennis lesson ratio is 1:4. Gymnastics Camp Grades 1-6 Come learn how to roll, flip and swing! Spend half your day in our state-of-the-art air-conditioned gymnastics facility learning and working skills on all 4 Olympic events as well as out in-ground trampoline and foam training pit, instructed by our trained gymnastics coaches. Spend the rest of your day experiencing traditional camp activities. Please note: Campers will be walking 5 minutes by way of path to and from the gymnastics center. Surf Camp Grades 3-6 Learn the basics of surfing and standup paddleboarding or improve upon your skills with the professional staff from Levitate Surf Shop. Campers transported daily to the beach for instruction. All equipment included. No experience necessary. Intro to Golf Camp Grades 2-4 & 5-8 Looking to learn the game of golf or work on your skills? Campers will be transported to a local golf club on the South Shore and will work daily with a club pro on their swing and putting. Campers will learn course etiquette while playing one of the par 3 s! No equipment or experience necessary. SNAG Golf Camp Grades 1-3 Learn the fundamentals of golf including full shots, pitching, chipping and putting. SNAG (Starting New at Golf) utilizes specialized equipment which helps kids build confidence while learning new skills. All instruction takes place on site at camp. Designed and led by partner organizations, our specialty camps give campers fun and interactive experience in a chosen area. Campers work on their specialty for half the day, then participate in traditional camp activities. LEGO CAMPS Designed and facilitated by Play-Well TEKnologies. NEW! Intro to STEM with LEGO Grades 1-3 Ratchet up your imagination with tens of thousands of LEGO parts! Design and build as never before and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. NEW! LEGO STEM Challenge Grades 4-7 Power up your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and thousands of LEGO parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture through engineer themed projects. Jr Robotics Grades 1-3 Build and program robots in this introductory Robotics class using the LEGO WeDo system. Learn programming skills, simple engineering concepts & robot components. Work in small groups to complete several projects using tilt & motion sensors. Sr Robotics Grades 4-7 Build and program robots using the LEGO Mindstorm NXT system. Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements & problem solving. Build your own robot and control it to avoid obstacles, pick up objects & play sounds. Jr Jedi Engineering Grades 1-3 The Force Awakens for young Jedi! Explore engineering principles by designing and building projects using LEGO materials such as X-Wings, R2 Units, Energy Catapults, Defense Turrets and Settlements from a galaxy far, far away. Create motorized and architectural projects to defeat the Empire! Sr Jedi Engineering Grades 4-7 The Force Awakens for advanced Jedi! Discover key engineering concepts such as gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics and eccentric motion. Build projects using LEGO materials such as X-Wings, AT-AT walkers, Pod Racers, Star Destroyers and other complex machines/structures from a galaxy far, far away. Jr Ninjaneering Grades 1-3 Enter the world of Ninjago and become an apprentice Ninjaneer! Learn the way of Spinjitzu, build the Fire Temple, race Skull Tracks and encounter the mighty Dragon. Imagine and build unique and fun LEGO projects. Sr Ninjaneering Grades 4-7 Master the world of Ninjago by becoming a Ninjaneer! Tame the Ice Dragon, motorize your Blade Cycle, design the Dark Fortress and hone your Spinjitzu battle skills. In this advanced LEGO camp, masters will learn real world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture while exploring the fantasy world of Ninjago. NATURAL SCIENCE CAMPS Designed & facilitated by South Shore Natural Science Ctr. NEW! Marine Biology Grades 1-3 Explore the deep blue sea! From whales and sharks to squid and jellyfish, campers will dive into the world of ocean ecosystems to learn about the many creatures that call it home. Please note: This is a half day camp. NEW! Vet Camp Grades 4-6 Campers will learn about animal anatomy, gain important observational skills by using tools such as microscopes and stethoscopes, and work to solve veterinary mysteries. Please note: This is a half day camp. NEW! Food, Fun and Farming! Grades 1-3 & 4-6 Campers will participate in farm tasks including planting seeds, caring for seedlings, harvesting vegetables and preparing the harvest for tasting or food pantry delivery. River Adventures Grades 6-9 Participate in activities such as learning kayaking skills, water safety and discovering the natural/cultural history of the area. Life jackets will be provided. Co-sponsored by the North & South Rivers Watershed Association & South Shore YMCA. Sailing Camp Grades 4-6 Start your day in traditional camp activities. In the afternoon, travel to the Lincoln Maritime Center in Hingham for sailing lessons. Campers sail in groups of 2-3 with a Y staff and a sailing instructor. Life jackets are provided by the camper. SCIENCE CAMP All Science Camps are designed and facilitated by Wicked Cool for Kids and are full day specialty camps. Swimming and traditional camp activities not included. Minecraft Mania* Grades 1-3 Using Minecraft, campers investigate virtual, educational environments & real world science. Learn about the properties of rocks & minerals and take home your own collection. NEW! Minecraft Mania 2* Grades 4-5 Construct complex Minecraft villages and map out a model community built with real world materials. Forge unique tools, discover the power of redstone & create factories to supply your empire. Design light-up circuits & machines to take home. NEW! Rocket Science Camp* Grades 3-5 Keep a commander s log as you investigate the solar system, design a satellite and build a space base for an astronaut. ArtsCamp stuffs each week with YOUR creativity, passion, & energy. Led by specialized artist educators dive into your morning camp then choose your afternoon specialty class. No experience necessary. ArtsCamp camper drop off/pick up is at Laura s Center for the Arts unless confirmed with the ArtsCamp Director. 8 PERFORMING ARTS Mini Magic Musicals This is the chance for your young actor to shine on stage! Actors will participate in a small cast and receive personal attention specific to their age, while learning stage presence, confidence and basic theatre terms. Culminates in a lunch time performance on the last day of the session for family and friends! Please note: AM only. Seussical Ages 4-5 The Ugly Duckling Ages 4-5 The Jungle Book Ages 4-5 NEW! Broadway Cabaret Grades 1-4 Own the stage in our own Broadway Cabaret. Please note: AM only. Petite Artistes! Grades 1-4 Explore, create, play, and make a beautiful mess as we paint, build, sculpt, sketch just like these famous artist! Beatriz Milhazes (Paint) Auguste Rodin (Sculpture) Beatrix Potter (Illustration) Takashi Murakami (Mixed Media) Mixed Media Grades 3-8 Work and experiment with a variety of wet and dry mediums as you create art to build your portfolio. Learn the fundamentals of design through sketching, color study, fabric selection, pattern creation, and hand sewing! Picture THIS! Grades 3-7 Have a great idea for a comic book or book? Discover the world of illustration as you create your choice of a comic book or a story through art! Design characters, settings, and a story from beginning to end through sketches, doodles, drawings, and more! Design Lab Grades 5-9 Go behind the scenes and bring our theatrical production of Cinderella to life! Design, paint, and work hands on with sets, props, and costumes for our production. DIGITAL MEDIA Behind the Lens: FilmPRO Grades 3-8 Work in a production team to produce an original commerical from first draft, shooting on location, acting, and final touches. Costumes, props, and set inventory provided on site to design your final work. Behind the Lens: PhotoPRO Grades 3-8 See the world through your lens as you explore a different subject each day which includes shooting in nature, on stage, action, and more! 9 ABOUT GORDON CLARK DAY CAMP LOCATION & GROUNDS South Shore YMCA Emilson Branch 75 Mill Street Camp Gordon Clark is located at the South Shore YMCA Emilson Branch, 75 Mill Street on the Hanover/Norwell line, minutes from Route 3 (exit 13) and behind the Hanover Mall. Camp Gordon Clark includes a spacious athletic field, three outdoor pools, games court, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball court, traverse climbing wall, ga-ga pit, low ropes, archery area, a bathhouse/changing area, Laura s Center for the Arts and also our indoor SkyTrail Explorer. SAFETY Safety is our number one priority. We comply with regulations set by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (105 CRM 430) and are licensed by the Town of Hanover Health Department. All of our staff members complete a comprehensive training program. SUMMER CAMP FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Financial Assistance is available to those who cannot afford fees. Assistance is awarded based on the need demonstrated by household income and/or extenuating circumstances and the funds available. Financial Assistance is made possible through charitable donations. A Summer Camp financial assistance application can be found in the center of this brochure. Completed Financial Assistance applications should be addressed Attn: Summer Camp Financial Assistance. Summer Camp financial assistance is not retroactive and can only be applied to camp sessions that occur on or after the date the financial assistance is awarded. A $50 non-refundable and nontransferable (per child, per week) deposit is due upon registration. Scholarship applications take at least two weeks to be assessed and are assessed in the order that they are received. INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY Camp is an outdoor recreational program. In the event of inclement weather, the camps will use tents for activities when possible. Severe weather conditions may dictate the use of indoor facilities for some or all activities. Please make sure campers are dressed appropriately for the weather as campers will need to go outside to get between different activities. DROP-OFF & PICK-UP Morning Arrival Regular morning drop-off is between 8:30-9:00am. Please park in the Outdoor Center parking lot and walk your camper to the sign-in location. In addition, we offer an early morning drop-off from 7:30-8:30am. Afternoon Pick-Up Pick-up takes place from 3:45-4:00pm. We are not able to release any campers between 3:15-3:45pm. Any campers staying after 4:00pm MUST register and pay for extended day. Campers who are not picked up on time will be charged a late pick-up fee of $1/minute. Extended Day During extended day, camp staff will supervise campers and organize a variety of low and high-energy activities for campers. Early Morning Drop-Off 7:30-8:30am $25/week Members; $30/week Non-members Late Pick-Up 4:00-6:00pm $50/week Members; $55/week Non-members You may register your child for Extended Day on a weekly basis at the same time as you register your child for camp or anytime up until the week prior. 10 REGISTRATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES MEMBER AND NON-MEMBER Registration for all camp families opens on February 12th. The fastest way to secure your registration is by registering online. Camper Information & physical/immunization records MUST accompany walk-in registration and will be required to complete all online registrations. PLEASE NOTE: Full Memberships must be obtained prior to registering for camp in order to receive the Full Member fee. A $50.00 non-refundable deposit per camper/per week is required. PAYMENT IN FULL FOR ALL CAMPS IS DUE BY MAY 24, ALL REGISTRATIONS MADE AFTER MAY 24TH MUST PAY FULL FEE AT TIME OF REGISTRATION. ONLINE REGISTRATION Registering online for Camp has never been easier with our online registration system! Please be aware that the online registration process includes supplying camper, emergency contact and medical information at the time of registration. This process will replace the additional paper/electronic Camper Information Forms that were previously required to be submitted after initial registration. Scroll down to and follow the online instructions to create an account if you are a new user. 5. Select the camps you would like to register for. After you have registered online, please send your child s physical and immunization records to us within 7 days. REGISTRATION POLICIES Camp is an opportunity for new experiences and to make new friends. For this reason we do not accept camper grouping requests. Payment Policy Please note that your child will not be able to begin camp until all of the required documents and your full payment for the week is received. All payments are due by May 24th. If payment in full is not received by May 24th, your child s camp spot may be forfeited. Payment options: Payment In Full Of which $50 per child/per week is nonrefundable and non-transferable. Deposit of $50 per child/per week Payment of the remaining balance is due by May 24th. PLEASE NOTE: Payments must be scheduled to a card payment or EFT at time of registration. Third Party Payment / State Voucher If camp payments are being made by a 3rd party, registration must be made in house. At time of registration you must provide proof that the camper has funding for camp and contact information for the funder. If you receive a state voucher, a current school year voucher or voucher appointment letter is required to register. The camp balance will remain the parent/guardians responsibility until funding has been verified. PLEASE NOTE State Voucher: Upon registration, a payment 10 SUMMER 2018 EMILSON DAY CAMP SOUTH SHORE YMCA schedule will be established for each week of camp. Payments are due one week before the camp session begins. Third Party Payment: Upon registration, a payment schedule will be established for each week of camp. Payments can be made online or at the Branch at any time prior to 5/24. Any remaining balances on 5/24 will be automatically charged using the original method of payment. Wait List Policy If a camp is full, you will be placed on a wait list. You will make no payment at that time. The South Shore YMCA will contact you if we are able to add you into the camp. Please make sure we have your correct address, , and phone number on file. Please do not call the YMCA to check your status and please do not come to the first day of the camp session if you are on the waiting list. Cancellation Policy The $50.00 deposit/per child, per week is non-refundable, non-transferable. 100% refund (less the $50.00 deposit): If cancellation notification is received before May 24th. No refund will be given if cancellation notification is received after May 24th. Refunds will be issued in the same method that payment was received. Refunds by check may take 2 weeks to process. Medical Cancellation Policy In the case of severe illness or other medical limitations where a doctor states the camper is not allowed to attend camp, a SSYMCA credit* will be applied. A doctor s note MUST be submitted stating the camper s specific restrictions causing him/her not to attend camp. Refunds will be issued to your SSYMCA Account. *Note: No credit will be given mid-week for illness/medical limitations. Program Transfers Camp transfer requests must be made in writing on a camp transfer form. The transfer will be made depending on availability. Your $50 deposit could be forfeited if you are transferring to a different camp week. Transfers cannot be made less than 5 days before the camp takes place. Any difference in registration fee is due at the time of the transfer. You will receive a confirmation once the transfer has been approved. All refund and transfer requests must be made on a camp cancellation/transfer form available from the camp office.
