6 WARD5 PROJECT UPDATES International Design Competition for a New Etobicoke Civic Centre Councillor Justin Di Ciano shared his vision for 6 Points during the 2014 election. It was impossible to re-visit the road and development plans which were all approved after a ten year long exercise, however, the architecture and design could be world class. Along with a new 2 acre park that was never in the plan, Councillor Di Ciano is pleased that his colleagues at City Council supported his direction to Build Toronto, in collaboration with the City of Toronto Planning and Real Estate Services, to undertake a design competition for the new Etobicoke Civic Centre proposed to be relocated to the former Westwood Theatre Lands. Spring 2017: It was standing room only in the Council Chambers at Etobicoke Civic Centre as Councillor Di Ciano, residents, City of Toronto Staff, Build Toronto and members of the Architect and Design community came out to view the world class designs of the 4 shortlisted Firms that were displayed for the Westwood Lands International Design Competition. Congratulations to Adamson Associates Architects, Henning Larsen Architects and PMA Landscape Architects as the winning design team! This winning team has been selected from 4 finalists from the International Etobicoke Civic Centre Design Competition to design a new 46,500-square-metre (500,000-square-foot) Etobicoke Civic Centre as part of the six-hectare (14-acre) Westwood Theatre Lands redevelopment Bloor Street West Development Your Ward 5 Councillor JUSTIN DI CIANO FIGHTS for Six Stories for you. Your tax dollars at work! The applicant, Fieldgate Homes, filed to The ( Provincial ) Ontario Municipal Board in January Councillor Justin Di Ciano has directed the City of Toronto Solicitor and Planning Staff with outside consultants (as required) TO DEFEND THE BLOOR KINGSWAY AVENUE STUDY WHICH ONLY ALLOWS 6 STOREYS AT THE ONTARIO MUNICIPAL BOARD (OMB).

7 CITY-WIDE POLICY ITEMS Keeping City Hall Accountable As a member of the Budget Committee since 2014, Councillor Justin Di Ciano has been very concerned about the way City Hall spends taxpayers money. As a result in 2016 Councillor Di Ciano initiated a Review of the Procurement Policies of the City of Toronto and doubled the Budget of The Auditor General to ensure end to end Audits. Councillor Di Ciano has been tackling spending concerns since he was elected. Justin continues to sit on the Budget Committee and has continuously asked the hard questions. City Staff propose to report back to City Council with final recommendations to regulate short-term rentals in the fourth quarter of Concurrent with the proposed regulations in this report, staff are considering the implementation of a hotel and short-term rental tax, as directed by Council, subject to receiving legislative authority from the Province of Ontario. Updates will be provided in our monthly E-News. us and sign up! These issues are complicated and involved but must be addressed. Di Ciano, meanwhile, announced plans to double the budget of the city s auditor general s office, with hopes that $1 million more in funding will help identify ways to save money in the future. The City s Auditor made public in June of 2017 her intent on an Audit of Parks and Rec. Councillor Di Ciano will ensure that Procurement Procedure is included. Backyard Chickens in the City of Toronto? We would love to hear if you would be supportive, or not, of permitting residents to keep backyard chickens in the City of Toronto? A Pilot Project is possible for Ward 5. Have your say and participate in our on-line Poll. Have your say at: GTAA and NAV Canada Toronto Pearson International Airport has an average of 150,000 passengers each day in July and August, about 25 per cent more than a typical day. For clarity, the GTAA does not manage/decide flight paths. This is the responsibility of NAV CANADA. In June 2015, the GTAA announced a three-phase Noise Mitigation Initiatives Engagement Plan with NAV CANADA to study six ideas that have the potential to reduce the noise impact of Toronto Pearson s operations on surrounding neighbourhoods. Find a link to the plan on our website by using the search bar to find GTAA & NAV Canada Noise Mitigation Initiatives Engagement Plan. If you reside in an area not usually affected by airplane noise and experience noise after hours, you re welcome to contact Cynthia.Woods@gtaa.com directly with complaints and/or our office.
