For more information contact Sally (442733). Ruishton Book Club This month our novel was a thriller, 'Faithful Place' written by Tana French set in Dublin. Frank Mackey an undercover cop narrates the story. At the age of nineteen he and his girlfriend Rosie plan to run away to London, she fails to turn up at their rendezvous in 'Faithful Place'. Twenty years later her body is found, the past then returns to haunt the present. In this dark world of psychological crime Frank starts to re evaluate everything he believed in as he searches for her killer. This thriller had a gripping plot full of tension and atmosphere. It was a compelling read full of love, loss, memory and murder. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 13th June at 10.30am. At that meeting we will be discussing the book 'Everything I Never Told You' by Celeste Ng. For further information phone Jenny on In St George's In St George's are nearing the completion of their project for Taunton Live '18 and it will be on display in Ruishton Church throughout July. 5 RUISHTON AND THORNFALCON PARISH COUNCIL ANNUAL PARISH COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON 2 nd MAY 2018 Cllr Doug Lowe was re-elected as Chairman and Cllr Mike Marshall was re-elected as Vice Chairman The following Cllrs were appointed to specific areas of responsibility FOOTPATHS: Cllr Hancock HIGHWAYS: Cllrs Bulgin, Lowe and the Clerk RECREATIONAL FIELD: Cllrs Bulgin & Fudge SAFETY ISSUES: Cllr Mullins POLICE CONTACT: Cllr Marshall & the Clerk PRESS: Cllr Lowe & Marshall HENLADE: Cllr Anderdon & Laws THORNFALCON: Cllr Harper & Bulgin RIVERBANK: Cllr Laws LOCAL STRUCTURE PLAN: Cllr Bulgin & Marshall VILLAGE HALL REP: Cllr Harper FLOOD COMMITTEE REP: Cllr McEvans TREE WARDEN: Cllr Bulgin COUNCILLOR VACANCY There is still a vacant seat on the Council. So, could you help keep Ruishton & Thornfalcon a vibrant, good place to live by becoming a Parish Councillor? You could be in at the grass roots level of Local Government and be involved in making things happen or getting things sorted! You could get local views about local issues brought to the attention of the powers that be. Being a councillor, you would attend meetings and generally keep up to date with things or you could be more active and take on a responsibility in an area that interests you. Any person interested in becoming a Parish Councillor should contact the Heather Bryant by phone or ruishtonpc@gmail.com for more information. Or speak to a present Councillor. WORKSHOP AT COUNTY HALL ON ROAD SAFETY As reported in the May newsletter, there is an opportunity for the Somerset County Council Road Safety Team to visit communities with a simulator. They are targeting the older motorist (defined as 60+) as statistics show a significant proportion of casualties occur with this age group presumably as our reactions tend to slow as we get older. If anyone is interested, it can be arranged but at least 12 people must attend to make a session. Two people have put their names forward at present so if you are interested please contact the Clerk. If you think that your reactions are just as sharp as the young driver, come along and prove the statistics wrong! The session will last for two or three hours at most with free tea and biscuits. A358 TAUNTON TO SOUTHFIELDS DUALLING PROJECT UPDATE Highway England have produced a Spring newsletter which can be accessed by the following link: They are developing plans to create an A358 Community Forum which they anticipate starting after the preferred route announcement has been made. The Forum would be a means of sharing timely and relevant information with forum members and ensuring that the views of the community are heard, captured and considered as they plan for the statutory consultation and move forward beyond that to the submission of their Development Consent Order Planning Application. Ruishton & Thornfalcon Parish Council has asked to be included on this forum ANNUAL PARISH ASSEMBLY The Annual Parish Assembly was held on 10 TH May at 7.00pm in the Village Hall attended by 25 parishioners. There was a presentation by the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group on the Neighbourhood Plan Visions and Objectives that have emerged as a result of the recent Household Survey. The Parish Council had agreed the Visions and Objectives at the May meeting. The meeting heard a report from the Chairman on the year s activities which has been very busy especially with the A358 Taunton to Southfield Scheme. We are now waiting for the preferred route to be announced scheduled for Autumn. This will have an impact on the Neighbourhood Plan. There were other reports from the School, Village Hall, footpaths in Ruishton and footpaths in Thornfalcon. D COUNCIL , , , , , 7.11,18, Council Meetings commence at 7.30pm (unless otherwise stated) and are held in Ruishton Village Hall. There is an opportunity at 7.30pm for the public to make comments or ask questions. A full set of minutes can be seen our website at Parish Clerk: Mrs Heather Bryant, Northay House, Northay, Chard. TA20 3DN. Tel: ruishtonpc@gmail.com Neighbourhood Plan - link to the website and to the Facebook page "Ruishton, Thornfalcon & Henlade".

6 THANK YOU AND NEXT STEPS We would like to thank you for coming to the recent drop-in workshop on greenspaces and footpaths/cycle paths. Your comments will be considered as the Neighbourhood Plan develops. The Vision and Objectives for the Parish (Ruishton, Henlade and Thornfalcon) for the next 20 years were presented at the Annual Parish Meeting and you confirmed that that we had heard you correctly through the Household, School Children, Business and Employment. and Housing Needs Surveys and at Village Days. Our next step is to undertake a survey of the on-street parking during the primary school drop-off and pick-up sessions. This will help evidence future parking needs for the school. Our surveys will take place during the May half-term week and in the two weeks following. If you would like to find out more about your Parish Neighbourhood Plan, please visit the Parish website - available if you wish to raise more. Most money raised wins a hamper of goodies!
