3 FORMER SCHOOL BUILDINGS UP FOR SALE At the request of the Community Council, and with the assistance of County Councillor Darren Mayor, the Council members recently met the newly elected Property Portfolio holder for Powys County Council (County Councillor Graham Brown) together with other Council Officers at Llanwddyn School. The longstanding community concern about the building continuing to stand empty and not being placed on the market was again raised, and the County Councillors and officials were also shown the deterioration in the condition of the premises and recent vandalism that has occurred Powys CC has subsequently agreed to the request of the Community Councillors that, in the interests of finding a new user for the building sooner rather than later, it will be put up for sale on the open market immediately. Therefore, for sale boards will shortly appear and the sale particulars become available to any interested parties. The Grade 2 listed building will be available either Freehold or on a long Leasehold basis and the County Council will include the biomass unit in the property on offer. However, in the interests of finding a suitable purchaser that might bring benefits to the community, the County has also indicated that there might be some flexibility about the inclusion of the heating system As most people will be aware, there is currently a covenant in favour of Severn Trent that currently restricts the use of the building to educational purposes. However, if a purchaser comes forward that requires the building for another use that is not in compliance with the current covenant, the County will then seek to resolve this issue direct with Severn Trent. Arrangements are also being made to retain use of the changing/wc facilities for the annual Vyrnwy marathon runners and also for a new football club, if one comes forward to use the nearby pitch. If anybody has a possible interest in acquiring the building, the Powys County Council contact is Nigel Baldwin Thanks Eirwen, Berwyn and family would like to thank all of their friends and neighbours for the comforting telephone messages, cards and donations that they received on the sad loss of Eirwen s mother also for attendance at the funeral. Gyda llawer o Ddiolch.
4 Seniors Trip to Portmeirion Tuesday, 26 th June We set off in dull weather which quickly turned to rain for our outing to Portmeirion this year. As the Bala road was closed due to road works, which will be going on until August, we took the road to Dolgellau where we stopped for our coffee break. Thanks goes to Cyril Roberts for running a raffle on the coach, which was won by Margaret Hughes. In spite of the slightly longer journey we reached the Royal Madoc Hotel before midday, giving us plenty of time for a drink before our lunch. The roast lunch was well received by everybody, and very cheerfully served by the waitresses. We reached Portmeirion by around 1.30 pm, giving us three hours to look around, visit the tourist shops and take a ride round the lake and woodlands on the little train. The rain did ease off towards the end of the afternoon, but I think that everyone agreed it was a nice day out, and after all, if we worried about rain this summer we wouldn t be going anywhere! The popular choice of venue for next year was Colwyn Bay and the Welsh Mountain Zoo. News about the Christmas Lunch will be given in the November Newsletter. SENIORS CAKE STALL SUNDAY, 19 TH AUGUST The Seniors Cake Stall will be held at 11 am on Sunday, 19 th August, as usual in the front of Audrey s garage, and will go on until all the produce is sold. Would anyone donating cakes or preserves please bring them along on the day. If you cannot come on the day please ring Iris on or Audrey on and we will arrange collection. Please don t forget to come and buy. The cake sale directly funds the Seniors Christmas Lunch, details of which will appear in the November Newsletter.
