It s been another interesting year at the boatyard and what a beautiful summer it was in 03! After a very cold start at Easter it was great to enjoy some really warm temperatures and beautiful settled weather for most of the year. Of course there was the odd gale blow through the Glen which made things quite interesting for our guests. I m always amazed as to how much everyone seems to enjoy these more challenging conditions but it really brings out a sense of adventure to the holiday and they have a great time. It s been lovely that many of our customers have shared their experiences on Facebook and TripAdvisor - their reviews are well worth reading if you re unsure about what to expect during a trip through the Caledonian Canal. We ve had a few changes at the boatyard too and we are delighted to announce the introduction of a brand new boat class for 04 the Torridon will be fitted out over the coming winter and is available for hire as from May 04, perhaps a little earlier. She is a 40ft cruiser, with 3 sleeping cabins and thus will be able to sleep 6 comfortably. Many of our regular customers have already snapped up weeks on her which we re really pleased about. You will find full details of the new boat class on page 8 of our brochure and you can follow the development on Facebook as we will be keeping a diary of the boat building progress on there. In addition to the boat charter, we are delighted to now also be able to offer motorhome hire, through our partner company Loch Ness Motorhomes, as well as the rental of a stunning holiday cottage on the beautiful Isle of Skye. Blue Sea Cottage is located near Dunvegan and just a ten-minute drive from the famous Three Chimneys restaurant. A cottage or a motorhome are the ideal complements to your boating holiday. All information regarding these new ventures is detailed on our lovely website, which has just had a revamp too! So, all systems are go at the moment as we head towards a busy winter maintenance schedule with the fitting out of our new Torridon to keep things interesting. 3 Caledonian Canal Map & Typical Itinerary The canal is 60 miles long and takes 3 days to cruise each way, therefore the round trip can be done in a week s cruise. Short breaks and 0/-night cruises are also available. Once through the lock you will then be able to cruise out onto Loch Ness and on towards your first overnight stop at Urquhart Bay, which takes about ½ hours. This is an ideal base to visit the village of Drumnadrochit where you ll find a few shops, restaurants and places of interest to visit. From the harbour it takes about 0 minutes to walk into the village. During the lighter summer months it may be possible to get to Fort Augustus on your first evening; it takes about 3 ½ hours to cruise the length of Loch Ness, however this can be quite a lot of cruising to do on the first day, so we recommend Urquhart Bay Harbour as your first overnight stop. Please note a berthing charge of 0 is applicable here, payable at the harbour. This is the only location in the Glen where a berthing fee applies. MORAY FIRTH Caley Cruisers p X BW Dochgarroch INVERNESS v p XBW Tomnahurich Bridge X Inverness Castle Fort Augustus m,vn Gairlochy Loch Oich DAY : It takes about hours to cruise the second part of Loch Ness from Urquhart Bay Harbour to Fort Augustus. This lovely village is a great stop along the way with lots of things to see, shops and eating establishments to visit. Most 3 night cruises tend to go as far as Fort Augustus. For those proceeding further you will need to negotiate the flight of 5 locks, this usually takes about hour. All Lock Keepers are very friendly, helpful and will always be happy to assist if you have any queries. There are toilet and shower facilities at both, the bottom and top of the lock flight; the lower one also has laundry facilities. Departing from Fort Augustus, you ll first reach Kytra Lock. This is a lovely, quiet spot for a barbeque. There is beautiful wildlife in this very remote location, so you may catch a glimpse of a pine marten or red squirrel here. Travelling on, you ll reach Cullochy Lock and then, passing through Aberchalder Bridge will take you onto Loch Oich. If you re out for a 4 night cruise, Loch Oich is normally as far as you would travel before making the return trip back towards Inverness. DAY 3: After passing through Laggan Bridge, your cruise will take you through the beautiful tree lined Laggan Avenue. Continuing South West and you ll reach Laggan Locks, there are also toilet and shower facilities available here. After negotiating the lock you ll reach Loch Lochy, this beautiful part of the canal system is dominated by Ben Tee. Loch Lochy takes about hours to cruise and takes you to Gairlochy Lock. The final canal section takes an hour to cruise. En route, you ll pass through the very quaint Moy Bridge; here the local farmer and his flock of sheep are the only patrons. Arrival at Banavie brings you to the end of the cruising area; here you can watch the sea going boats transit through the flight of 8 locks at Neptune s Staircase. You ll find toilet and shower facilities, water and shore power here. Banavie is just a couple of miles from the town of Fort William, where you also can stock up on supplies. DAY 4-6: If you re out for a week or longer you can make a leisurely trip back towards Inverness, doing as much or as little as you like in this truly fabulous location. You ll find lots more info regarding the places to visit along the route on our website. Please note that in the event of windy weather conditions, for safety reasons restrictions on cruising may be applied. This may impact on how far and where you can cruise to during your holiday. DAY 7 - FINAL DAY: Most people tend to spend their final night back at, or near to, the boatyard. There are some lovely places to eat out in Inverness, we re happy to give recommendations and assist with booking a table. At the base we have toilets, showers, shore power and Wi Fi facilities free of charge. When you return to the boatyard, vessels are usually refuelled and fuel accounts finalised. During the summer opening hours of the canal, you can stay on the east side of Dochgarroch Lock and come through Tomnahurich Bridge as soon as it opens in the morning (approx. 08:00 am). This may also be possible at other times of the year but only by prior arrangement with the boatyard as, due to a restriction, the bridge does not operate until 9.5 am. Please note that vessels are due to be returned to the boatyard by 8.30 am on the day of departure. Caley cruisers are a class act. Drumnadrochit Drumnadrochit lies at the head of Urquhart Bay and is the centre of the Loch Ness Monster industry in Scotland! Do you enjoy a leisurely swim? or are you looking for something more adrenalin fuelled? We saw wild goats, caught brown trout and even went horse riding. It really was an amazing trip. TripAdvisor review (Zef C), visited June 03 on Eriskay class Best of the Rest Dochgarroch is the first lock you will come across after Inverness. It is a very picturesque spot with lots of private boats and plenty of mooring. While there you should stop in at Oakwood Restaurant, a great little restaurant and tearoom which also offers antiques and collectables! While passing Foyers why not stop to enjoy a leisurely walk around the forests and visit the impressive Falls of Foyers, where the water plunges in two falls first 30ft, then 90ft. In Fort William the top of Neptune s Staircase at Banavie is your cruising limit, but there is more than enough to keep you occupied in the outdoor capital of the UK! For the energetic there is Ben Nevis to climb, and for those of you who are not, a cable car will take you to the top of Aonach Mor ski range. 5 Handover Procedure Try and aim to be at the boatyard between :00 & 4:00 on the day you start your hire. We do recommend that you pick up your shopping supplies in the morning if at all possible. Should you need to leave luggage with us to give you some room in your car please come along any time in the morning and we can put it in our store area. You will be able to purchase food supplies during your cruise at Drumnadrochit, Fort Augustus, Invergarry and Fort William. We have a waiting area, toilets & showers and free Wi Fi available at the boatyard; so if you arrive early you re most welcome to freshen up, enjoy a coffee and relax whilst reading through your handbook. Your vessel will be available to board between.00 and We commence our Safety Briefings at :00, they run at regular intervals and the last one will start at 4:00 so it is important you arrive before this. We do like all members of your crew to view the safety information in the film shown as part of the briefing. The Safety Briefings are followed by a Boat Handling instruction; for this we require the skipper and at least one other competent, adult crew member. If you are very experienced, then you will simply need to demonstrate your boat handling skills to us. Should you unavoidably be arriving after 4:00, it is important you inform the boatyard, so that we know when to expect you, as we will have to arrange for later instructions. Once all the demonstrations and paperwork have been completed, a convoy will depart (the first one is usually at about 4:30 hrs) travelling through the first swing bridge at Tomnahurich and on towards Dochgarroch Lock. This canal section takes about hour to cruise, so you will usually arrive there between 5:30 & 6:00 hrs. It s here that we will leave you, therefore if you have any queries or are unsure about anything, please ask. When you re out on your holiday, you do have access to a 4 hour service number which is always manned by a member of our team; so if you have any queries regarding the weather, cruising area or any problems with the boat, you will always manage to contact us. 11 Travel Arrangements Your Questions Answered By Car From London, this trip can be done within hours. Inverness is approximately 3 hours from Edinburgh via the A9 and about 5 hours from Newcastle. Car Hire Car hire is an easy and convenient way of reaching Inverness from further afield. It is also a great way of having the freedom to explore the Highlands before or after your holiday with us! Budget Enterprise Europcar By Ferry The UK now has many good ferry connections with Europe and Ireland, giving you the flexibility of bringing your own car! P&O Ferries, from Zeebrugge and Rotterdam to Hull, Calais to Dover and Larne (Northern Ireland) to Troon Stenaline, from Belfast to Cairnryan and from Hook of Holland to Harwich. DFDS Seaways, from Amsterdam to Newcastle. By Train Regular and overnight train services run from London and most main UK train stations. Inverness train station is located in the city centre, approximately 3 miles from our boatyard. We booked our holiday online from Australia and from our initial contact right through to returning our beautiful vessel the Caley Cruisers team were outstanding... TripAdvisor review (J R), visited July 03 on Eriskay class By Air easyjet has regular flights all year to and from Inverness Airport, connecting with London Gatwick and Luton. Dutch airline KLM currently offers a regular connection from Amsterdam. Other scheduled flights throughout the summer may also be available. Please check for updates at Inverness Airport is approximately miles from our boatyard. The easiest way to reach us from the airport is either by taxi directly to the boatyard or by taking the airport shuttle bus to the city centre and then a taxi to the boatyard. Taxi Service It takes approximately 5-0 minutes by taxi to get to us from the centre of Inverness and approximately 0-30 minutes by taxi to get to us from the airport. Taxi ranks are located both in the centre of Inverness and at the airport but pre-booking is also possible and is recommended for larger groups. City Taxis - Tel Inverness Taxis Tel (also provide a minibus with 6 seats) By Bus Regular services connect Inverness with Edinburgh, Glasgow and London along with most other main UK bus stations. Inverness Bus Station is located in the centre of Inverness and is approximately 3 miles from our boatyard. As you can see in our brochure, we do have quite a range of different boat classes to choose from so it is understandably difficult to make the right choice. We would recommend you take a boat larger than you need the extra space certainly won t go amiss. For example, if there are 6 adults in your party, opt for Torridon, Highland Monarch or Taransay class. If possible, avoid having to convert the table into a berth. The smaller vessels, such as Mull of Kintyre class, will be cramped if you fill them to capacity. How long can I cruise? The official stopping time is dusk however, cruising is mainly restricted to the canal opening times. All of the bridges and locks are operated by keepers and the hours of operation are usually from 8.30am until 5.30pm (8am 6pm in the summer) with a 7 day operation from Easter to the end of October. They close for a hour lunch break, usually between.00 noon and.00pm. Is this holiday suitable for me? Boating on the Caledonian Canal is different from other inland cruising areas. It can get quite rough on the lochs and a certain amount of physical activity is involved when locking and berthing, therefore we require a minimum of reasonably fit & active adult crew members (aged years or over) on board each vessel to participate in these activities. All of our vessels have steps inside and some also use ladders to access the boat. On some boat classes (particularly Highland Commander) the steps can be quite steep, please bear this in mind for toddlers, older or infirm/ disabled crew members and your pets. When disembarking from the vessel onto a pontoon, the height difference can be approximately 3ft. Should this be a problem for any of your crew, or indeed you have any queries or concerns, please do discuss them with us prior to booking. When is the best time to come to Scotland? Scotland is beautiful in every season although, as its reputation suggests, the weather can sometimes be unpredictable. May, June and July benefit from the longest daylight hours in mid June it doesn t get dark until approximately.30pm! The beautiful colours of spring and summer delight the customers the canal banks are lined with yellow of the Broom and Loch Oich is ablaze with Rhododendrons. During September and October you will be treated to the wonderful colours of autumn but the weather does tend to get slightly cooler then too! For seasonal weather averages visit Do I need to take anything with me? All of our boats are fully equipped with all galley utensils, crockery, pots and pans and basic cleaning supplies. Safety equipment and life jackets are also included. Freshly laundered bed linen is provided we supply duvets for all fixed berths and sleeping bags for the convertible berths. Towels, blankets and pillows for everyone are on board. Please advise of any allergies prior to arrival. Binoculars (not supplied) may be a great item to use to enjoy the scenery. An inventory of items on board can be found in the Pre-Holiday Information you receive with your booking. The onboard water tank contains drinking water; however some people prefer bottled water, which you would need to buy. There is no first aid kit supplied with the boat, so please bring your own. Please also remember to bring gloves as they are very important for rope work. Can I use electrical appliances on board? The easiest and most convenient power source on all of our boats is the v cigarette lighter connection which is more than adequate for charging mobile phones and devices. All boats also feature a 40 volt inverter which means that mains power (3 pin plugs) can also be used on board at any time (battery power levels depending). Electrical hook-up is available on all boats but please note that there are only a few electrical hook-up points along the canal (fee applicable), therefore we do not recommend that you rely on this. On all boats we request that only appliances requiring no more than 500 watts should be used (for Mull of Kintyre class only up to 650 watts). Is there mobile reception and WiFi available along the canal? WiFi: there are Highland Wi-Fi hotspots available at several locations along the canal. To access the network and to register, log on to Highland Wi-Fi Public Hotspot. You can then buy your online time, payable by card or PayPal. Free Wi-Fi is available at the Caley Cruisers base and at Urquhart Bay Harbour. For the majority of the time you spend on the canal you will find the mobile phone signal is very good but you will find one or two poor areas where the signal will be either low or not available. Can I stock up with grocery supplies along the canal? There are various stops along the canal where you can stock up with supplies, the first one being the village of Drumnadrochit, accessible from Urquhart Bay Harbour. But we do recommend that you purchase some basic supplies from Inverness prior to your departure from the boatyard just to get you started. There is a Co-op located close to the boatyard or you can order online at ASDA, Sainsbury s and TESCO for delivery to the boatyard. 13 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CALEY CRUISERS PRICELIST 04 CONDITIONS OF HIRE COLLISION DAMAGE WAIVER Payment of the non-refundable Collison Damage Waiver is applicable for all bookings. This provides you with fully comprehensive cover in the event of accidental loss or damage to your boat or its equipment. It also provides third party cover just in case for example you accidently cause damage to another vessel, jetty etc or cause injury to a third party. It does not cover any damage caused by the deliberate or negligent act or omission of you or any member of your party (including where the person concerned is under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any similar substance) or any failure by you to comply with our safety instructions or booking conditions. In this case we reserve the right to make a charge to cover the loss or damage. FUEL DEPOSIT Depending on the class of vessel booked, the Fuel Deposit will be 00 or 50. All of our vessels carry approximately 550 litres of diesel, which is enough for about -3 weeks cruising. The Fuel Deposit that you pay covers more than the average week s cruise. At the end of your holiday we will refuel your vessel and any extra charge or refund should be settled prior to your departure. You will be charged the fuel cost applicable at the time of your cruise. Please do not hesitate to contact our office should you have any queries regarding this matter. We will be happy to provide details on fuel consumption and averages for whichever vessel you are interested in. SHORT BREAKS AND 0/ NIGHT HOLIDAYS Most vessels (as indicated on the boat pages) can be booked for short breaks and 0/ night holidays. The weekend short breaks run from Friday :00 pm until Monday 8:30am (3 nights) and the mid-week short breaks run from Monday :00 pm until Friday 8:30am (4 nights). The 0-night breaks start on a Friday (:00 pm) and the -night breaks start on a Monday (:00 pm). PICK-UP AND RETURN TIME FOR ALL VESSELS The boat handover time is usually between pm and pm. However, we do commence our Safety Training from noon, therefore it is important you arrive as close to midday as possible. Should you be arriving after.00pm it is important that the boatyard is advised in advance. All boats should be returned and vacated by 8.30am on the day of departure. Many visitors return to our boatyard the prior evening to finalise the fuel account and visit Inverness. GROUP BOOKINGS Please note that we cannot accept bookings for Stag and Hen parties. For certain groups, we reserve the right to apply an additional security deposit. Please see condition on page 3 (T&C of Hire) for further information. If you have any questions about group bookings then please do not hesitate to contact us. FISHING You can fish for brown trout, pike and eel only, anywhere in the canal sections. There may be restrictions on some of the lochs, due to private land owner fishing rights. Salmon and sea trout fishing is not permitted at all (neither is the use of salmon fishing equipment). Fishing is permitted off your hire cruiser only, not from the shores. Fishing tackle can be bought or rented locally at Graham s of Inverness, (bait may also be available). Please leave sufficient time prior to your arrival to the boatyard for arranging fishing tackle. Please note: No fishing tackle available at the Caley Cruisers boatyard. PETS Pets are permitted on most vessels, except Torridon class, Eriskay No.6 and Isle of Skye class. The cost is 35 per pet, per week (minimum charge 35). Payment to be made at the time of booking. Larger pets may need to be lifted onto boats. This can be a particular issue on Highland Commander and some other boat classes. Please contact the boatyard for further information. We kindly ask our customers to bring pet-blankets or pet-baskets and to ensure that the pets do not lie on the bedding or seating. BIKE HIRE Bikes are available to hire from the boatyard. Pre-booking is essential. The costs are 45 per bike per week or 30 per bike for a short break, payable with balance of hire. We also have children s bikes (suits 8-0 yr. old) available for 35 per week or 0 for a short break. SMOKING Smoking is not permitted on board any of our vessels. GENERAL INFORMATION Boat driving licence not required. No experience necessary: comprehensive boat handling instruction given. Canal charges: all included in boat hire fees. 4/7 call-out service. When you book your holiday with us you are entering into a contract which binds you and us in various ways. You ll see we have clearly set out the Booking Conditions with a list of responsibilities and commitments we and you have towards each other.. Terms. All terms are per week or short break for the boat as equipped and described in the Caley Cruisers Ltd brochure. Saturday dates are shown. For boats starting Monday, the previous Saturday charges apply; for Friday starts, the following Saturday charges apply. Prices include VAT at 0% and are subject to change. In the event of a change in the rate of VAT during the course of the year, your holiday will be invoiced at the new amount of VAT unless you have already taken your holiday or paid the balance in full prior to the date of the change. Our booking confirmation is not a VAT invoice. You will receive a VAT invoice at the end of your holiday. Should the rate of duty on fuel change, we reserve the right to make an additional charge. We reserve the right to correct errors in advertised prices; we will advise you of any such errors at the time of booking. We also reserve the right to correct errors in confirmed prices. In this case we will contact you as soon as we become aware of the error. If the correct price is higher and you do not wish to pay this, you will be entitled to cancel and receive a full refund of all monies you have paid to us providing you notify us within 4 days of our advising you of the error. We promise we will not seek to correct any error in a confirmed price within 8 weeks of the start of your holiday or more than 7 days after you make your booking. You can normally board your boat at.00pm (subject to unavoidable delays). You must advise us if, due to unavoidable delays, you will not be able to arrive at the normal take-over time. Your boat must be returned and handed back to the Caley Cruisers boatyard in Inverness no later than 8:30am on the last day of the hire. You are obliged to leave everything in a clean and tidy condition. If you fail to return your boat on time and/or in a clean and tidy condition you are liable to an extra charge at the discretion of Caley Cruisers Ltd. Extra charges may include additional hire cost for late returns at a full daily rate, cleaning charges, third party expenses etc.. Making a Booking. For any bookings, we require a completed booking form, available in our brochure or online on our website at When you book, you are accepting on behalf of your party the terms of these Booking Conditions. A binding contract comes into existence once we have received your deposit and we have issued a reservation confirmation by or post. The contract shall be deemed to have been made at our offices in Inverness and be subject to Scottish Law. We both agree to submit any dispute to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of Scotland. In all cases these Booking Conditions form the basis of your contract. 3. Number in Your Party. There must be a minimum of reasonably fit and able adult crew members aged or over on board. It is not permitted on any boat to carry more persons than advertised in this brochure. Accommodation is provided only for the number stated. Any change of party details before or during a holiday must be authorised by Caley Cruisers Ltd. We require skipper and all crew to take part in our safety briefing (minimum of adults required). 4. Payment. When you book you must pay the applicable deposit requested. Your balance (together with your Fuel Deposit and non-refundable Damage Waiver) is due and payable by you 8 weeks before the start of your holiday. For bookings made within 8 weeks of the holiday start date you pay the full amount at the time of booking. A surcharge for credit card payments is applicable. Caley Cruisers Ltd reserves the right to cancel a confirmed booking if any payment due has not been received at the agreed due date. Cancellation charges apply as laid out in condition 6 of these Conditions of Hire. 5. Changes by You. Up to 8 weeks before the holiday start date you may change your boat to another one within the fleet and within the same calendar year (subject to availability). You may transfer your booking to someone else or another party (introduced by you) at any time providing you notify us. Additional charges may be applicable. 6. Cancellation by You. You must telephone us immediately if you have to cancel and on the same day send us written confirmation quoting your booking reference. Your cancellation is effective from the date we receive your written confirmation from you, which will be acknowledged. For early bookings we guarantee you an unconditional refund of the deposit if you have to cancel (for any reason) any holiday booked to be taken from 8th March 04 onwards, provided you cancel before the 5th January 04. If you have to cancel after 5th January 04 a cancellation charge will be applicable as set out below. Minors. Bookings from persons under the age of cannot be accepted. 8. Boat Handover. A free demonstration is given to you at the time of takeover. Whenever possible the person responsible for the booking must be present. Caley Cruisers Ltd would like as many crew members as possible to participate in the safety training, but a minimum of fit & able adults (+) is required. If not all party members are able to attend the safety training, you must inform the boatyard prior to arrival. 9. Damage, Breakdown and Defects. No responsibility will be accepted by Caley Cruisers Ltd for loss of time or expenses occurred through accidental damage to the boat while it is in your charge. We cannot accept liability for loss, damage or expense which occurs as the result of any defect or breakdown occurring during your cruise unless caused by proven reason of the boat operator s failure adequately to maintain the boat in a fit state and condition or caused by the acts or defaults of Caley Cruisers Ltd or its employees. Any defect or breakdown must be reported immediately to Caley Cruisers Ltd during your cruise so that steps can be taken to repair the boat or remedy the service. (It is unlikely that trouble of this nature will arise as every boat is carefully checked before the start of each cruise.) 0. Accidents. Your boat is insured but you have charge of the boat and are responsible for its safe navigation. In the unlikely event of structural or mechanical damage, however caused, no responsibility can be accepted by Caley Cruisers Ltd for loss of time or the cost of alternative accommodation or any other damages or expenses. In the case of any accident or damage to the boat, to other craft, to water property, or to any person, it is your responsibility to: (a) Find out the name of the other boat involved together with the name of the owners and hirer. (b) Report these facts, together with the extent of the damage, to us as soon as possible. No repairs may be put in hand without the permission of Caley Cruisers Ltd.. Your Fuel Deposit and Collision Damage Waiver. You must pay the Collision Damage Waiver which is non-refundable. This covers the cost of any accidental damage that may occur to the boat whilst it is in your charge and/or other boats that were damaged in the incident, along with the cost in respect of third party bodily injury (subject to the full policy terms and conditions). Exceptions apply where any loss and/ or damage is caused by the deliberate or negligent act or omission of you or any member of your party (including where the person concerned is under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any similar substance) or any failure by you to comply with our Safety Briefing Recommendations or these Booking Conditions. In this case, we reserve the right to make a charge to cover the loss or damage. You will be asked to pay a Fuel Deposit from which the cost of any fuel used will be deducted and the balance refunded to you. In the event that fuel used exceeds the deposit amount, then you will be liable for the additional fuel payment. Fuel deposit and damage waiver charges are subject to change each year and such changes are also applicable to confirmed bookings for following years.. Additional Deposits. You may be asked for an additional deposit of up to 50 per head at the discretion of Caley Cruisers Ltd. This is payable on your arrival and will be refunded to you when you have finished your holiday, providing you return the boat and its equipment on time, undamaged, clean and tidy and without third party claim against you. If the boat is returned late and/or additional cleaning of your boat is required on its return, you will be liable for the extra costs, which will be deducted in the first instance from your Fuel Deposit and payable on demand if in excess of the deposit balance. 3. Linen/Towels. Linen and towels are provided free of charge. 4. Layout Plans. Boats in this brochure are for general guidance. They are not to scale and alterations during building may occur. Some boats in classes have minor variations. Some boats have steps which may not be shown on the plan. If you have infirm or disabled members in your party you should enquire as to the suitability of your boat when booking. 5. Production Boats. Photos of standard production boats are sometimes used for a class group of boats. As production boats are not always finished in identical colour schemes, this means your boat may be different in colour from the photograph. 6. Obeying the Waterways Rules. You must observe the Navigation Authorities by-laws, including in particular the rule that you must not navigate after sunset or before dawn and your speed must not be such as would inconvenience or endanger other users of the waterway. On no account may you tow or be towed by other craft, unless you have professional assistance as towing can be a hazardous operation if incorrectly undertaken. Boats may not be entered in races or used for business purposes. No minor may control your boat without the supervision of an experienced adult. No portable heaters, cookers or barbecues of any type, bicycles, lighting equipment, canoes, windsurfers, dinghies, TV sets, electrical or gas appliances, or medical equipment may be taken or used aboard without the express prior permission of Caley Cruisers Ltd. 7. Availability. Your booking is accepted on the basis that your confirmed boat will be available for your use in accordance with these Booking Conditions on your agreed start date. Unfortunately this is occasionally not possible. If your confirmed boat is not available as agreed, this will almost always be due to events beyond our control. If your booking has to be cancelled (which we have the right to do) we will offer to transfer your booking to another date or vessel or offer a full refund. We regret that we cannot pay any compensation or meet any expenses or costs you may incur as a result of any such cancellation or change. 8. Unreasonable Behaviour. We have the right to refuse to hand over a boat to any person who in our opinion is not suitable to take charge. In such cases all hire charges paid will be refunded as quickly as reasonably practicable and there will be no further liability. In addition Caley Cruisers Ltd have the right to repossess a boat at any time if we consider you, or any member of your party, to be unsuitable to remain in charge because of age, ill health, inexperience, suspected or actual influence of alcohol or drugs or any other reason, or because of irresponsible behaviour which is causing or is likely to cause danger or disturbance to any other person(s) or damage to any property. In this situation Caley Cruisers Ltd will have no further responsibility or liability and no refunds will be made or expenses met. 9. Events Beyond our Control. Unfortunately events beyond our control can occasionally affect bookings. When reference is made to such events in these Booking Conditions, this means any event(s) or circumstance(s) which we could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid. Such events include the following: Destruction or damage of your boat (which cannot be remedied to a satisfactory standard before the start of your holiday) due to fire, flood, explosion, storm or other weather damage, accident, break-in, criminal damage or any similar cause. Mechanical breakdown or other mechanical or technical problems affecting your boat (which cannot be easily rectified before the start of your holiday). Flooding, shortage of water, obstruction, repairs, damage or similar event affecting any waterway, waterway structure or facility such as a lock or bridge or navigational equipment (which prevents or affects you taking your holiday). Adverse weather conditions and tides (which may restrict navigation and passage through bridges/locks). Shortage or non-availability of fuel for the boat. Late return by previous hirers. Industrial action, riots, civil strife, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, war, threat of war, actual or threatened terrorist activity and all similar situations. We regret that Caley Cruisers Ltd cannot accept responsibility or pay any compensation or expenses where the performance of your contract with us is prevented or affected or you otherwise suffer any loss or damages as a result of events beyond the boat operator s control. This includes any delays to and/or restrictions on cruising to which you may be subject (Caley Cruisers Ltd and the waterways authority are entitled to impose restrictions in the situations mentioned above). However, if your booking has to be cancelled as a result, we will offer to transfer your booking to another date or offer a refund, as more fully described in Condition Your Pet. We allow pets on certain boat classes. The charge is 35 per pet per week (min. charge 35). You must bring your pet-blanket or pet-basket and ensure that your pet(s) does not lie on the bedding or seating. Your pet must not be left unattended in your boat or elsewhere. If extra cleaning of your boat is required after your holiday because of your pet, a charge may be made.. Assistance Dogs. Registered assistance dogs will be accepted free of charge on all boats in this brochure, subject to availability of suitable accommodation where pets are permitted.. Comments or Concerns. You must notify Caley Cruisers Ltd of any shortcomings with your boat immediately so that remedial action, if appropriate, can be taken. For all complaints and claims which do not involve personal injury, illness or death, we regret that it may affect our ability to investigate your complaint and may impact on the way your complaint is handled if you fail to notify us immediately during your holiday and then write to us at Caley Cruisers Ltd, Canal Road, Inverness, IV3 8NF, within 8 days of the end of your holiday. 3. Your Vehicles. Your vehicle and its accessories and contents are left entirely at your own risk. Caley Cruisers Ltd will not be responsible for any loss or damage from or to any vehicle from any cause whatsoever other than in the case of our negligence or that of our agents. 4. Liability. Except where otherwise specified in these Booking Conditions, Caley Cruisers Ltd cannot accept liability for any damage, expense, injury, death or loss of any nature whatsoever suffered by any person(s) from any cause whatsoever other than in the case of our proven negligence.
