1 Freedom Rider DFW Honda Freedom Riders Motorcycle Club Volume 12 Number 4 December 2013 HRCA Chapter #364 Notes from the Prez The first day of winter and the shortest day of the year is December 21st. But winter conditions have already arrived. As I write this column it is cold with sleet and ice in the forecast burr! Fortunately, this is Texas, and there will still be some good riding days ahead, just not as many as we are used to having. But then there is reason for good cheer because it is December and Christmas is just around the corner. What kind of Christmas gift(s) do you want? On the practical side, if you don t have one or more of the following, consider getting a tire pressure gauge, a tire repair kit, a tire pump, and/or jumper cables. If those ideas leave you flat (a little play on words), maybe there is one or more chrome bling items you may not need but absolutely want for your iron horse. Whatever you decide, enjoy. Peggy and I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Here are some upcoming events to put on your schedule. A special thanks to Dan McDonald for his DFW Freedom Riders Motorcycle Club Grapevine, Texas involvement in so many of these events and to Mark Palmer for hosting the desserts get together. For more details, check the Forum and the November and December Newsletters. 1. The Mesquite Santa Cops Toy Parade. Saturday, December 07th. 2 Club Officers and Staff Meeting Minutes Continued Bob welcomed new guests and participants to this final meeting before the Thanksgiving holiday. Special guest and new participants given opportunity to introduce themselves. Bob welcomed Special Guests, Sergeant Tim Henley, Criminal Investigation Division and Senior Officer Richard Hudson, Traffic Division, of the Grapevine Police Department. Bob turned the meeting over to them for discussion. Sergeant Henley, along with Officer Richard Hudson, introduced the I.C.E. Program to all members and guests present. ICE is short for In Case of Emergency. This program allows for all motorcycle riders to sign up and is given an ID system that allows for Police to identify personnel involved in accidents which involve motorcycles. A sticker is placed on rear of helmet with ID card placed inside the helmet. Very informative and most all participants in attendance were signed up to this program. Bob thanked both officers for their attendance and time spent with us this evening. Bob discussed the upcoming December Christmas Lights Ride scheduled for Sunday, December 8th. Bob asked who would assume the leadership of the ride this year. Dan McDonald accepted this role. Plans are to meet at Frijole's Restaurant at 5:30pm Thought for the Month When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Chief Tecumseh for dinner and then the ride at 6:30pm to see the lights! The ride will end at the Palmers in Coppell. Bob Sympson, Club President, adjourned the meeting at 8:33pm. Tahlequah Weekend November 8-10 Machelle and Dave Noel ordered up a PERFECT weekend for riding for this first part of November. Mornings were slightly cool, but the daytime temps were just about perfect for riding. Not cold and not hot. Fourteen bikes and one four-wheeler left DFW Honda on Friday headed northeast through Paris. A fifteenth bike joined up with us in Bonham, making our group complete. After a lunch stop at the Busy Bee Cafe in Hugo (now in a bigger location), the route led us through the scenic Oklahoma Kiamichi wilderness area through Antlers, Clayton and Wilburton on Highway 2. The fall colors in this area were just a preview for what was to come. Arrival in Tahlequah was timed with one of the most beautiful sunsets you've ever seen. Most everyone opted to not get back on the bikes for dinner, so a delicious pizza party was in order at the motel. Saturday morning was another picture perfect day for a ride. We headed out for Hwy 80 along the Fort Gibson Reservoir and the Neosho River to the town of Fort Gibson. From there, we headed along Hwys 10 and 100 along the Tenkiller Reservoir into Stillwell for lunch. After lunch, more riding was in order headed north on Hwy 59 to Hwys 20, 28, 82 and 412 for Continued on Page 4 Back Rows: Dan & Rose Ann McDonald, Larry Brothers, Janice Reed, Donna Johnson, Larry Brown, Mark Frank, Monique Schwartz, Mark Palmer, Debra & Sam Tough, Barbara & Ken Duffy, Machelle Noel, Randy Langley Front Row: John Nelson, Kyle Beaty, Mike Reed, Ken Frazer, Dave Noel, Cheryl Langley & Augie Gardino. The route is still being developed and a map will be provided for those in four-wheelers. The meeting place for the ride will be Frijole's Restaurant at 5142 Rufe Snow in North Richland Hills. It's easy to find, just 1/2 block north of Loop 820 on the east side of Rufe Snow. From there, we'll take in the Diamond Loch neighborhood, then work our way northeast to the Palmer's home in Coppell for a bring-apot-luck-dessert fest. The Freedom Rider 4 Kaufman Christmas Sunday December 22 Note the date change. Due to a conflict at Kaufman, we will change to Sunday the 22nd. We as a club have committed to provide Christmas gifts for the kids at Kaufman. As usual, we will not know how many kids or specific requests until a couple of weeks before, but we always manage to pull it off. We will try to get a list of gift requests as early as possible, but as always the residency is fluid and we won't know too far ahead of time. Watch the forum for additional information on how we can help cover this critical time of year in the life of the less fortunate kids at Kaufman. We will make the trip to Kaufman on December 22nd to take gifts and any other contributions we can gather. Polar Bear Ride Wednesday January 1, 2014 It's time to lay out the plans for the Annual Polar Bear Ride on New Year's Day. Once again, the McDonalds will host a lunch of stews and other goodies after a ride to welcome in the New Year. We will have a signup sheet at the December meeting for you to commit to bring any dishes or desserts that you want to supply This will be a rain or shine event. If the weather is inclement, we'll have a lot of fellowship and good food by traveling on four wheels. Be There - Do That Short List of Upcoming Events Dec 5, 12 s Dec 7, 14, 21 - Sat.
