5 2016 SXSW Get your badges and your wristbands ready Austin, 2016 will be another landmark year for everyone going to SXSW this year! Interactive: March Film: March Music: March Here are a few of the highlights this year: President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will be Keynote Speakers Plan accordingly for heightened security and crowds as the President will have a technology-focused keynote conversation on March 11 and then first lady is expected to talk about her Let Girls Learn initiative, which aims to help young women around the world gain access to an education on March 16th. Ellen Page and Ian Daniel join the SXSW Film Keynote lineup Co-creators of the documentary series Gaycation will discuss their careers, as well as cultural attitudes toward LGBTQ people and the larger equality movement on Saturday, March 12 at 11:00 AM. Coheed and Cambria will headline the SXSW Outdoor Stage at Lady Bird Lake on Friday, March 18 This is just one of the hundreds of acts that you can see through the music portion of SXSW. 6 Calendar of Events 2016 Star of Texas Rodeo This year is going to be better than ever! It s never just a Rodeo here. There s something for everyone at this year s Star of Texas Rodeo. Whether it s seeing Willie Nelson and Family perform on March 12th or watching the official sport of Texas you are going to have a great time! Rodeo Austin is one of America s top 10 ProRodeos. The top ranked athletes in each event compete in Rodeo Austin for the title of Champion. Enjoy extreme competition, bull fighting entertainment and the fan-favorite Mutton Bustin. Rodeo Austin also hosts over 130 live music performances during the fifteen-day Fair and Rodeo, and is proud to bring a concert series that has something for everybody, from Texas Country to punk rock. A family-friendly event open at 10 a.m. daily, the fairgrounds offers Austin s largest carnival, shopping, food and varity of shows and special attractions Pecan Street Festival Beginning May 7th, the street will fill with hundreds of local and national artisans offering handcrafted creations of all sorts for 2 days. More than 60 musical acts, 30 food vendors and family-friendly activities will fill the weekend with food and entertainment.
