If any of the information is incorrect or needs updating, please contact us prior to your arrival to make any necessary corrections. Also, this is a good time to make yourself familiar with the Reservation Agreement that outlines the rules and regulations regarding your use of the vacation rental. Access Codes Due to the sensitive nature of this information we will access codes separately, on the date of your scheduled arrival when the rental is clean and ready for entry. Using Access Code Your vacation rental is equipped with keyless entry. For entry, you must pull the door to you, and enter the access code given to you in your arrival letter. Locking the Rental To lock your vacation rental, pull the door to you, and press the lock/logo symbol located on the touchpad.

9 Departure Information Check-Out Process When you leave, please ensure the following simple tasks are done: Place all dirty dishes in the dishwasher and run the cleaning cycle. If the vacation rental is not equipped with a dishwasher, please wash by hand. Place all used towels, hand towels, and washcloths in the main floor bathroom tub. Please leave sheets and comforters on the beds. Dispose of ALL food and drinks from the cabinets, pantry, and refrigerator. Gather ALL garbage and place it in the outside trash receptacles. Set thermostat to 75F in the warmer months and 65F in the cooler months. Secure the vacation rental by locking ALL doors and windows. If any of the above items are not completed, you may be charged an additional cleaning fee. We hope you had a wonderful vacation and wish you safe travels back home. Check-Out Time Check-out time is strictly 11am EST.

10 Items Left Behind Prior to leaving the vacation rental, we highly recommend that you thoroughly search the vacation rental for any of your personal belongings before heading home. While we make every effort to locate and return lost items, we cannot be responsible for items that we do not find. In the event that an item is left behind and located, the cost to ship plus a $25 service fee will be charged to the card on file. Lost and found items left unclaimed will be turned over to local charities after 7 days. Check-Out By Phone You do not have to visit our office to Check-Out. Simply call to notify us of your departure. Please leave your name and the name of the vacation rental in which you were staying. Inventory Check Upon your departure, our housekeeping department will do a thorough inventory check and inspect the vacation rental for damages. In the event that damages have occurred, or if items are missing from the vacation rental, the cost to repair, replace, or fix the items, will be charged to the credit card on file.

12 Appliance Instructions / Information Air Conditioning Your vacation rental has the benefit of air conditioning. You will find a panel on the wall [in the living area/bedroom/hallway/etc]. Please ensure that all windows and outside doors are closed whilst the AC is running to ensure it operates to maximum efficiency. We recommend a setting of 72F, which we find keeps the place sufficiently cool. Lowering the temperature any lower will not speed up the cooling process, but may actually cause the unit to malfunction, requiring expensive repairs and total loss of cooling features.to ensure the unit operates correctly, place the thermostat on AUTO and to the COOL setting. Use of FAN mode or any other mode will not allow the unit to cool the vacation rental.

13 Central Heating Your vacation rental has the benefit of central heating. You will find a panel on the wall [in the living area/bedroom/hallway/etc]. Please ensure that all windows and outside doors are closed whilst the heating unit is running to ensure it operates to maximum efficiency. We recommend a setting of 70F, which we find keeps the place sufficiently warm. Increasing the temperature any higher will not speed up the heating process, but may actually cause the unit to malfunction, requiring expensive repairs and total loss of heating features. To ensure the unit operates correctly, place the thermostat on AUTO and to the HEAT setting. Use of FAN mode or any other mode will not allow the unit to heat the vacation rental. Indoor Jetted Tub Your vacation rental is equipped with an indoor jetted tub. These tubs typically hold 100 to 150 gallons of water. The average size of a hot water tank is typically 50 gallons. That being said, you will need to fill the jetted tub with a partial amount of hot water and a partial amount of cold water. The water in the tub once full will not be hot but warm. If you prefer, fill the tub partially with water, allow the hot water tank to replenish, and fill the rest of the tub with hot water. Also, please note that when using an indoor jetted tub, that you may experience discolored water when the jets are first turned on. This is due to water sitting in the jet lines between stays. If you happen to experience this, simply drain the discolored water, and refill as usual.

14 Laundry Appliances For your convenience, your vacation rental is equipped with a washer and dryer. Laundry detergent and dryer sheets are not provided. For maximum efficiency, please do not overload the units.

15 Refrigerator Upon your arrival to the vacation rental, you will find the refrigerator empty and set to a normal operating temperature. Once you place grocery items, warm foods, and liquids into the refrigerator, it will take some time for these items to cool down. Please be patient and note that if the freezer is operating normally, then so is the refrigerator. Adjusting the setting to a cooler setting will not expedite the cooling process.

16 Enjoying Your Time Inside Starter Supplies For your convenience, a starter supply of toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, and dishwashing tabs has been provided for you. Once these items have been depleted, it is your responsibility to replenish them. Linens Your vacation rental is equipped with sheets, pillow cases, and comforters. Additionally, each bath will have a set of towels, wash cloths, and hand towels for the number of guests that it accommodates. Once these linens are soiled, please launder them in the washer and dryer. In the event that your vacation rental is not equipped with a washer and dryer, we will gladly exchange them for you at our Check-In Center.

17 Breakages We understand that sometimes accidents happen! Should you break anything please let us know immediately - if it's minor we usually won't charge. If it's a larger issue (e.g. the TV screen!) we would like to agree the cost with you before you leave to avoid any issues later. Thank you! Cable / Satellite Your vacation rental is equipped with either satellite or cable television depending on available service in the area. Your vacation rental may not have access to all local channels, ABC, NBC, CBS, ESPN, FOX, etc. We have no control over what channels are available by the provider, so please be aware of this if you are planning to watch a sporting event or television program. Additionally, pay-per-view and On-Demand will not be available. WiFi / Internet Details This rental has free Wi-Fi. The username and password have been provided to you in your arrival or can be found on the router located inside the vacation rental. The service is provided for your enjoyment but you are responsible for safe and appropriate use and complying with all laws. If there is any loss of service please contact us. Maid Service Prior to your arrival, the vacation rental has been cleaned and inspected. There is no daily maid service available.

18 House Parties Our vacation rentals are privately owned by individuals who have worked very hard to provide you with the best and most comfortable accommodations. Under no circumstances are house parties permitted. Smoking Policy ALL of our vacation rentals have a strict NO SMOKING INSIDE policy. You are permitted to smoke outdoors, but please discard of cigarette butts appropriately. A minimum charge of $750 will be applied to the credit card on file if a rental has been smoked in or smells of smoke.

19 Enjoying Your Time Outside Swimming Pool Your vacation rental has swimming pool access. Pool access may require a pass for entry, which can be picked up at our Check-In Center. To inquire if your vacation rental requires a pool pass, please contact us at Outdoor swimming pools are typically open from Memorial Day to Labor Day (sometimes sooner/later depending on weather). Indoor swimming pools are open year round. There is no lifeguard on duty. Please use caution and swim at your own risk. * Colonial Properties Cabin and Resort Rentals is not affiliated with the resort, HOA, or management of the pool areas, nor do we control the opening and closing of pools, or maintenance issues that may arise.

20 Wildlife / Insects Your vacation rental is treated monthly for insects. Unfortunately, on rare occasions, these creatures still make their way indoors. To reduce the possibilities of encountering them during your visit, please keep windows and doors closed when possible. Some common insects that you may encounter include lady bugs, stink bugs, wasps, and carpenter bees. These insects seem to prefer cabin environments. Additionally, you may also see black bear, raccoon, deer, and turkey in the area. For your safety, as well as theirs, please do not feed these animals and keep all trash locked and secure. Garbage Collection Prior to your arrival, any trash was collected and disposed of by our housekeeping department.

21 Trash pick-up is not provided during your stay. Please place all trash in the provided outside trash receptacles and housekeeping will dispose of it after your departure.

22 Rules & Regulations Occupancy Due to local fire marshall code enforcements, we must have an exact count of occupants staying in the vacation rental. The maximum number of occupants for each rental is listed online in the description, as well as in your confirmation . Under no circumstances is over occupancy permitted. Those found over occupying a vacation rental will be asked to leave immediately. Quiet Times Please observe Quiet Hours beginning at 10PM EST and ending 9AM EST. If a noise complaint is received from your rental, you will receive 1 warning from our office. If after that warning, another complaint is received, you will be evicted from the rental with no refunds. If we deem extreme, disruptive behavior has occurred, no warning will be issued, and you will be evicted immediately with no refund. Smoking Policy Smoking is not permitted inside of ANY of our vacation rentals. Smoking is permitted outside only. Please do not dispose of cigarettes on the property grounds.

35 General Information Operating Hours and Seasons Primary roads are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round, weather permitting. This includes Newfound Gap Road (US-441), Little River Road, and Laurel Creek Road. Secondary roads are closed seasonally. Entrance Fee Great Smoky Mountains National Park does not charge an entrance fee. About the Park Great Smoky Mountains is the most biodiverse park in the National Park system. Biological diversity, or biodiversity, means the number and variety of different

36 types of animals, plants, fungi, and other organisms in a location or habitat. Encompassing over 800 square miles in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, no other area of equal size in a temperate climate can match the park's amazing diversity. Over 19,000 species have been documented in the park and scientists believe an additional 80, ,000 species may live here.mountains, climate, and weather are the big reasons. The park is dominated by plant-covered, gently contoured mountains that formed perhaps million years ago. In fact, the Smokies are among the oldest mountain ranges in the world! Elevations in the park range from approximately 850 to 6,643 feet. This range in altitude mimics the climate and habitat changes you would experience driving north or south across the eastern United States, say from Georgia to Maine. Plants and animals common in the southern United States thrive in the lowlands of the Smokies while species common in the northern states find suitable habitat at the higher elevations. Some 100 species of native trees find homes in the Smokies, more than in any other North American national park. Almost 95% of the park is forested, and about 25% of that area is old-growth forest. Over 1,500 additional flowering plant species have been identified in the park. The park is also the center of diversity for salamanders and is home to more than 200 species of birds, 68 species of mammals, 67 native fish species, 39 species of reptiles, and 43 species of amphibians. Mollusks, millipedes, and mushrooms reach record diversity here. The north-south orientation of the Appalachian chain allowed the Smokies to become a refuge for many species of plants and animals that were displaced from their northern homes by glaciers in the last ice age around 10,000 years ago.

39 Pets Rules and Regulation in the National Park Dogs are allowed in campgrounds, picnic areas, and along roads, but must be kept on a leash at all times. The leash must not exceed 6 feet in length. Dogs are only allowed on two short walking paths the Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail. Pets are not allowed on any other park trails. Pet excrement must be immediately collected by the pet handler and disposed of in a trash receptacle. Pets should not be left unattended in vehicles or RVs.

42 What to do in the Smoky Mountains Auto Tours Great Smoky Mountains National Park encompasses over 800 square miles and is one of the most pristine natural areas in the East. An auto tour of the park offers a variety of experiences, including panoramic views, tumbling mountain streams, weathered historic buildings, and mature hardwood forests stretching to the horizon. There are 384 miles of road to choose from in the Smokies. Most are paved, and even the gravel roads are maintained in suitable condition for standard passenger cars. Travel speeds on most of the park's paved roads average 35 miles per hour. Inexpensive booklets are available to serve as your personal tour guides along many park roads. These booklets are keyed to numbered posts or landmarks and include information on park history, wildlife, and plants. Booklets are available for the following roads: Cades Cove Loop Road Cataloochee Valley Newfound Gap Road Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail Upper Tremont Road In addition, the book Smokies Road Guide covers main thoroughfares and scenic backroads in the park. This book and the self-guiding auto tour booklets listed above are available at park visitor centers. Self-guiding tour booklets are also available from dispensers at the start of the roads they cover. Beating the Crowds Great Smoky Mountains National Park is America's most visited national park. Times when visitation is highest are July 1-August 15 and the month of October (especially October weekends). During these times, traffic may become congested, especially on the Newfound Gap and Cades Cove Loop roads. Fortunately, lesser-

43 used roads are scattered throughout the park. In summer, motorists can also avoid the crowds by traveling before 10:00 a.m. in the morning or after 5:00 p.m. in the evening. During October, traffic is heaviest during the afternoons and evenings. Hiking One of the most daunting tasks facing hikers is choosing a trail. Start by deciding on what you would like to see. Waterfalls? Old-growth forests? Endless views? Then decide how far you would like to hike. If you haven't hiked much recently, be conservative. Five miles roundtrip is a good maximum distance for novices. Hikers enjoy the Smoky Mountains during all months of the year with every season offering is own special rewards. During winter, the absence of deciduous leaves opens new vistas along trails and reveals stone walls, chimneys, foundations, and other reminders of past residents. Spring provides a weekly parade of wildflowers and flowering trees. In summer, walkers can seek out cool retreats among the spruce-fir forests and balds or follow splashy mountain streams to roaring falls and cascades. Autumn hikers have crisp, dry air to sharpen their senses and a varied palette of fall colors to enjoy. Here are some of the most popular destination hikes in the park: Charlies Bunion Alum Cave Bluffs Andrews Bald Rainbow Falls Chimney Tops Hiking with children? Kid friendly hikes are an excellent way to learn and enjoy the outdoors. Be sure to allow plenty of time to complete your hike before dark. As a rule of thumb, hikers in the Smokies travel about 1.5 miles per hour. Many people travel slower. Sunset times vary from just after 5:00 p.m. in December to almost 9:00 p.m. in June.

44 Fishing Great Smoky Mountains National Park has about 2,900 miles of streams within its boundaries, and protects one of the last wild trout habitats in the eastern United States. Approximately 20% of the park's streams are large enough to support trout populations.the park offers a wide variety of angling experiences from remote, headwater trout streams to large, coolwater smallmouth bass streams. Most streams remain at or near their carrying capacity of fish and offer a great opportunity to catch these species throughout the year. Fishing is permitted year-round in the park, from 30 minutes before official sunrise to 30 minutes after official sunset. The park allows fishing in all streams. You must possess a valid fishing license or permit from either Tennessee or North Carolina. Either state license is valid throughout the park and no trout stamp is required. Fishing licenses and permits are not available in the park, but may be purchased in nearby towns. Special permits are required for fishing in Gatlinburg and Cherokee. Tennessee License Requirements Residents and nonresidents age 13 and older must have a valid license. Residents age 65 and older may obtain a special license from the state. Buy a license from the state government of Tennessee. North Carolina License Requirements Residents and nonresidents age 16 and older need a license. Residents age 70 and older may obtain a special license from the state. Buy a license from the state government of North Carolina. Persons under 16 in North Carolina and under 13 in Tennessee are entitled to the adult daily bag and possession limits and are subject to all other regulations. Season Fishing is permitted year-round in open waters. Time Fishing is allowed from a half hour before official sunrise to a half hour after official sunset.

45 Daily Possession Limits Five (5) brook, rainbow or brown trout, smallmouth bass, or a combination of these, each day or in possession, regardless of whether they are fresh, stored in an ice chest, or otherwise preserved. The combined total must not exceed five fish. Twenty (20) rock bass may be kept in addition to the above limit. A person must stop fishing immediately after obtaining the limit. Lures, Bait, and Equipment Fishing is permitted only by the use of one hand-held rod. Only artificial flies or lures with a single hook may be used. Dropper flies may be used. Up to two flies on a leader. Use or possession of any form of fish bait or liquid scent other than artificial flies or lures on or along any park stream while in possession of fishing tackle is prohibited. Prohibited baits include, but are not limited to, minnows (live or preserved), worms, corn, cheese, bread, salmon eggs, pork rinds, liquid scents and natural baits found along streams. Use or possession of double, treble, or gang hooks is prohibited. Fishing tackle and equipment, including creels and fish in possession, are subject to inspection by authorized personnel.

46 Picnicking Picnic areas are located at Big Creek, Chimneys, Cades Cove, Collins Creek, Cosby, Deep Creek, Greenbrier, Heintooga, Look Rock, Metcalf Bottoms, and Twin Creeks. The picnic areas at Cades Cove, Deep Creek, Greenbrier, and Metcalf Bottoms remain open year-round. The remaining picnic areas are closed during the winter. See schedule below. Picnic pavilions are available at Collins Creek, Cosby, Deep Creek, Greenbrier, Metcalf Bottoms, and Twin Creeks, Pavilions can be reserved for groups one year in advance by calling (877) All pavilions except Twin Creeks and Greenbrier cost $25 per use. The fee for the pavilion at Twin Creeks ranges from $40-80 depending on the usage. Greenbrier costs $12.50 per use. Payment can be made by credit card or personal check at the time the reservation is made.

47 Waterfalls Abrams Falls Trailhead: The turnoff for the trailhead is located past stop #10 on the Cades Cove Loop Road. The turnoff is signed. Although Abrams Falls is only 20 feet high, the large volume of water rushing over falls more than makes up for its lack of height. The long, deep pool at its base is very picturesque. The waterfall and creek are named for a Cherokee chief whose village once stood several miles downstream. The trail to the falls traverses pine-oak forest on the ridges and hemlock and rhododendron forest along the creek. The hike is 5 miles roundtrip and considered moderate in difficulty. Due to strong currents and an undertow, swimming in the pool at the base of the falls is extremely dangerous. Swimmers have drown here! Don't be the next victim!

48 Access trail: Abrams Falls Trail in Cades Cove Trail Notes: The roundtrip distance to the waterfall is 5 miles and the hike is generally considered moderate in difficulty. Due to the length and terrain however, some visitors may rate it as difficult. It takes about 3-4 hours to hike to the waterfall and back. Please remember that if you begin your hike late in the afternoon, you may have to return in the dark! Carry drinking water with you. Portions of this trail are rocky-sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. Do not attempt to hike the trail in sandals or flip flops. Hikers must cross three narrow log bridges to reach the waterfall. 49 Trillium Gap Trail meanders through an old-growth hemlock forest and actually runs behind the 25 foot high waterfall. The cool, moist environment near the falls is ideal for salamanders and summer hikers. The hike is 3 miles roundtrip and considered moderate in difficulty. Access trail: Trillium Gap Trail on the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail Trailhead: From the parkway in Gatlinburg, turn at traffic light #8 and follow Historic Nature Trail into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Take Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail to stop #5 where there is a large parking area. Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is a narrow, winding, one-way road that is closed in winter. Buses, RVs, and large trucks are prohibited on the road. Trail Notes: The roundtrip distance to the waterfall is 2.6 miles and the hike is generally considered moderate in difficulty. A signed side trail leads to the base of the falls by way of steep switchbacks. Hen Wallow Creek, only two feet wide at the top of the falls, fans out to 20 feet at the base. The waterfall is 90 feet high. If you look carefully in the water at the base of the falls, you can often find salamanders. During very cold winter weather, the waterfall can freeze into a beautiful icy column. The hike to the falls is 4.4 miles roundtrip and considered moderate in difficulty.

50 Hikers continuing on the Gabes Mountain Trail beyond the falls can enjoy an impressive old-growth forest. Access Trail: Gabes Mountain Trailhead: Park in the designated hiker parking area at Cosby Picnic Area (near the entrance to Cosby Campground). Then backtrack on foot approximately 100 yards along the road to the signed start of the Gabes Mountain Trail. Trail Notes: The roundtrip distance to the waterfall is 4.4 miles and the hike is generally considered moderate in difficulty. It takes about 3-4 hours to hike to the waterfall and back. The waterfall is located on a short side trail off Gabes Mountain Trail. There is a wooden sign posted at the turn for this side trail. The short trail down to the waterfall is very steep-sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. Carry drinking water with you. Pets and bicycles are prohibited on the trail. Do not climb on rocks around the waterfall. 51 Indian Creek & Toms Branch Falls An easy 1.6 mile roundtrip hike will allow you to enjoy two beautiful waterfalls in the Deep Creek area. Walk Deep Creek Trail 0.7 mile to the junction with Indian Creek Trail. On your way you can view the elegant, 60' high Tom Branch Falls located on the far side of Deep Creek. Turn right at the junction with Indian Creek Trail and proceed approximately 200' to Indian Creek Falls. The falls are 25 feet in height. Access trail: Deep Creek Trail Trailhead: Follow the signs to the national park through downtown Bryson City to Deep Creek Campground. Continue past the campground to the trailhead at the end of Deep Creek Road. Trail Notes: The roundtrip distance to the waterfalls is 1.6 miles and the hike is generally considered easy. It takes about 1-2 hours to hike to the waterfalls and back. Carry drinking water with you. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Bicycles are permitted on this section of the Deep Creek Trail. Pets are prohibited on the trail.

It takes about 1-2 hours to hike to the waterfall and back. Carry drinking water with you. Juney Whank Falls is divided into an upper and lower section. Both can be viewed from the footbridge which crosses Juney Whank Branch at the falls. Together they drop 90 feet from top to bottom. The trail to the waterfall is 0.8 miles roundtrip and is considered moderate in difficulty. The stream and falls are said to be named after a Mr. Junaluska "Juney" Whank, who may be buried in the area. Access Trail: Juney Whank Falls Trail

53 Trailhead: Follow the signs to the national park through downtown Bryson City to Deep Creek Campground. Continue past the campground to the trailhead at the end of Deep Creek Road. Backtrack on foot 0.1 mile along the road to the trail. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Bicycles and pets are prohibited on the trail. Water recreation is not recommended in the park. Do not climb on rocks around waterfalls or along riverbanks. These rocks are slippery due to mist and algae. Closely supervise children at all times. Laurel Falls Laurel Branch and the 80-foot high Laurel Falls are named for mountain laurel, an evergreen shrub which blooms along the trail and near the falls in May. The waterfall consists of an upper and a lower section, divided by a walkway which crosses the stream at the base of the upper falls. Laurel Falls is one of the most popular destinations in the park and parking at the trailhead is limited. The area is especially busy on weekends year-round and on weekdays during summer. 54 Trailhead: From Sugarlands Visitor Center, turn toward Cades Cove on Little River Road and drive 3.5 miles to the trailhead where there are parking areas on both sides of the road. Trail Notes: The roundtrip distance to the waterfall is 2.6 miles and the hike is considered moderate in difficulty. It takes about 2 hours to hike to the waterfall and back. Carry drinking water with you. Pets and bicycles are prohibited on the trail. The trail is paved but the pavement is rough and uneven. The trail has short, steep sections which can be slippery in wet weather. Portions of the trail have steep dropoffs. Closely supervise children at all times. Due to the steep grade and roughness of pavement, this trail is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Do not climb on rocks around the waterfall. 55 Lynn Camp Prong Cascades Lynn Camp Prong rushes and tumbles over numerous cascades as it flows down the mountain beside the Middle Prong Trail. The trail follows the route of an old logging railroad, so it offers easy walking on a wide, relatively level path. Wildflowers bloom along the trail from spring through summer. Access trail: Middle Prong Trail on Tremont Road Trailhead: From the Townsend "Wye" take Laurel Creek Road 0.2 miles towards Cades Cove and turn left at the sign for Tremont. Follow the road past the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont and continue another 3 miles to the small parking area at the end of the road. The trail begins at a long, high footbridge across the river. Once you cross the bridge, you will come to a fork in the trail. Take the left fork, which follows the river. After 0.4 mile, a bench beside the trail offers a good view of the large cascade. A second bench sits beside the trail at the middle of the cascade. Several smaller waterfalls can be seen along the next 0.25 mile of trail.

It takes about an hour to hike to the waterfall and back at a leisurely pace. Carry drinking water with you. Although this trail is generally rated as easy, sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. Mingo Falls Access Trail: Pigeon Creek Trail Mingo Falls is on the Cherokee Indian Reservation (Qualla Boundary), just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. No special permits are required for access to the reservation. At 120 feet tall, the waterfall is one of the tallest and most

57 spectacular in the southern Appalachians. The hike to the waterfall is only 0.4 miles in length, but is considered moderate in difficulty. Trailhead: From Oconaluftee Visitor Center, drive south (toward Cherokee) on US-441 and take the second left onto Big Cove Road. At the first stop sign turn left and drive 4.5 miles to Mingo Falls Campground, where the trail begins. Mouse Creek Falls Big Creek Trail follows an old railroad grade used to haul lumber out of the mountains during the logging boom at the start of the 20th century. At 1.4 miles the trail passes Midnight Hole, a deep, picturesque pool below a 6' falls. At 2.1 miles a short side trail on the left leads to a bench where hikers can rest and view Mouse Creek Falls which is on the far side of Big Creek. The falls are 45' in height.access Trail: Big Creek Trail Trailhead: Exit I-40 at Waterville Road (#451). Turn left after crossing the Pigeon River and proceed 2.3 miles to an intersection. Continue straight, past the ranger station, to a large parking area at road's end.

59 A rainbow produced by mist from this 80-foot high waterfall is visible on sunny afternoons. During extended winter cold spells, an impressive ice formation builds around the falls. Between trailhead and falls, Rainbow Falls Trail gains about 1,500' in elevation. The 5.4 mile roundtrip hike is considered moderate in difficulty. The Rainbow Falls Trail continues for approximately 4 miles beyond the falls to the summit of Mount Le Conte. Access Trail: Rainbow Falls Trail in the Roaring Fork area. Trailhead: From the parkway in Gatlinburg, turn at traffic light #8 and follow Historic Nature Trail into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Continue past the Noah "Bud" Ogle homesite to the clearly signed Rainbow Falls parking area. Carry drinking water with you. Portions of this trail are very rocky-sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. 60 Ramsey Cascades Ramsey Cascades is the tallest waterfall in the park and one of the most spectacular. Water drops 100 feet over rock outcroppings and collects in a small pool where numerous well-camouflaged salamanders can be found. The trail to the waterfall gains over 2,000' in elevation over its 4 mile course and the 8-mile roundtrip hike is considered strenuous in difficulty. It follows rushing rivers and streams for much of its length. The last 2 miles pass through old-growth cove hardwood forest with large tuliptrees, basswoods, silverbells, and yellow birches. Do not attempt to climb to the top of the falls. Several people have been killed trying to do so. Access Trail: Ramsey Cascades Trail in the Greenbrier area Trailhead: Drive six miles east of Gatlinburg on Highway 321 and turn at the Greenbrier entrance to the park. Follow the signs 4.7 miles to the trailhead.
