The museum sits on prime patriotic real estate in historic Philadelphia. Our self-guided audio tour will direct us through displays of over 500 objects that celebrate not only the statesmen and soldiers who fought the war, but also the lives of the 18 th century common man. We ll progress from the opening shots of the war to the creation of the new United States of America. Even the audio voices change from a British accent to an American drawl. April 12, 2018 This tour stops to visit a relatively new world class collection. Of what, you ask? It s a mystery, of course. The chance to explore a 19 th century village with a grist mill, blacksmith shop, saw mill, general store, gazebo and chapel adds to the fun. A family style lunch is included. Departs Malaga, Elmer,, Pennsville, Beckett. Spring in the Secret Valley Tue. April 17, 2018 Colebrookdale Railroad Spend the day visiting with family and friends aboard the Colebrookdale Railroad. The two hour round trip departs and arrives in Boyertown, PA. Spring in the Secret Valley is a magical experience, as the deep forests come back to life. We will learn some local history as the train runs through a scenic landscape rich with the brilliant colors of native wild flowers as well as the remnants of America s iron ore heritage. Our lunch will be served in the restored dining car as we ride the rails. In the afternoon, we will ride the newlyrestored historic Pottstown Carousel. Two hundred hours has been devoted to restoring each wooden animal in the circle of 50 animals, and 50 hours has been spent painting and restoring the carousel to its 1905 grandeur. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia, is named for the man who donated $65 million to fund the project which opened December The museum needs two huge hangers to display thousands of aviation and space artifacts, including a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest jet ever flown; a Concorde; the Gemini IV space capsule in which Jim Lovell orbited the earth for 14 days in 1965; the B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima in 1945; and the Space Shuttle Discovery. The center also offers an Airbus IMAX Theater and the Donald Engen Observation Tower, which gives you a 360 degree bird s eye view of planes taking off and landing from Dulles International Airport in DC. You will also visit the Mary Baker Engen Restoration Hanger where you can watch aviation specialists restore aircraft from a glasswalled mezzanine overlooking the action on the ground floor. Built between 1908 and 1912, Fonthill was the home of this renowned archaeologist, anthropologist, ceramist and scholar. Fonthill is designated a National Historic Landmark and has been featured on the America s Castles TV series on A & E.
