2 The STR Program welcomes you to riding in the great state of Idaho! This beautiful state is most likely the best place you've never ridden. We may be famous for our potatoes, but we're even more famous (among motorcyclists) for the incredible roads and scenery found throughout this beautiful state. There are more than 50,000 miles of roads weaving throughout Idaho's picturesque landscape, just waiting to be discovered. It truly is a motorcyclist's paradise. This book will introduce you to a few rides that will showcase the diversity of the state and its terrain. The fun and beauty that these roads provide truly prove how valuable training courses are in helping all motorcyclists fully enjoy the thrill and excitement that comes with being one with their bike. s the saying goes, the more you know, the better it gets! very special thanks to Tricia Eberharter for all her hard work and dedication in volunteering to design this book and put it together for your riding pleasure. Ride Safe and ENJOY! Ron Shepard STR Program Director P.S. If you would like to freshen up your riding skills, visit our website at or give us a call at STR (7827)....no matter where you are in Idaho, you don t have to travel far to escape Julie Fanselow, Idaho-Off the Beaten Path Rides!

The rides highlighted here will give you the opportunity to venture out onto the roads of Idaho, Oregon, and Montana and see why we all love living here! Some of the rides compiled here take only an hour and some of them could go on forever. Rides! will introduce to you this great state of Idaho and the wonderful people who live here. nd when you return home and hear about those Idaho Spuds, we hope you will have fond memories to think back upon. Enjoy your stay and please ride safe! Many riders contributed to this work and we would like to thank them here. You know who you are and we thank you for sharing your riding journeys with us. We would also like to thank Jeff Naylor and Grand Targhee Resort for the cover photograph. Jerome & Tricia Eberharter It's time to be courageous, and maybe a bit rebellious. It's time to regain our naturalness & freedom. Mostly it's time to start having fun & quit whining. Indulge me on the ride... We journey together. The central focus is the Great Rift, a 62-mile long crack in the earth's crust. The Great Rift has some wonderful features; craters, lava tubes, deep cracks, and vast lava fields that form a strangely beautiful volcanic sea on central Idaho's Snake River Plain. The first volcanic eruptions occurred at Craters of the Moon about 15,000 years ago. The most recent ended about 2,100 years ago. 37 Vale, Cambridge Loop Vale, Oregon is well known as the pheasant hunting capital of Oregon. It is also a community situated on the Old Oregon Trail. Vale s culture and progress of early settlers are depicted on murals throughout the town. It's an outside gallery reflecting Vale Heritage in over 23 murals. Baker City, Oregon was once considered to be the premier social center along the Oregon Trail. In Halfway, there is the true blue working bison ranch which gives a variety of tours, Hells Canyon Bison Ranch. Cambridge, Idaho, the gateway to Hells Canyon, 100 miles north of, is the home of the oldest published newspaper in the state of Idaho. Hells Canyon is the deepest river gorge in North merica, approximately 5500 feet in depth and 40 miles in length. 340 Miles - The Loop - fun loop whichever way you ride it. I- West, 20/26 to Vale. When 245 turns north to head up over Bald and Dooley Mountains, lots of real nice corners encourage you to check out the amount of ground clearance on your bike. Then you hit Hwy 7 and proceed through Baker City. Take Hwy 86 east out of Baker City past the Oregon Trail Museum (definitely worth a visit). Route 86 then winds over to Halfway. t Oxbow Dam, take 71 south to which will put you back on I-.
