The lake s calm surface, gentle breezes, and 921 miles of shoreline are ideal for sailing, water skiing or fishing. Heralded as the third-most visited lake in the United States, it is especially known for its excellent fishing for crappie, largemouth bass, catfish, striped and hybrid bass. Boat and Jet Ski rentals are available at several locations. Snow skiers find ample opportunity to enjoy this sport at neighboring ski areas in the North Carolina mountains during the winter season. Turn at the stop sign at the end of the ramp and go across I- 85. Immediately after crossing I-85, turn right at the first opportunity. You will come to a point where you will cross the exit ramp for traffic coming from Atlanta. Cautiously proceed through this intersection and bear right to the frontage road in front of the gas station. Drive down this narrow road for one mile, through one intersection to the Carolina Landing entrance, on your left. Heading North on I-85 (from Atlanta): Take Exit #4. As you are driving down the ramp, you will take a hard right (virtually a U-turn), which will put you on the frontage road in front of the gas station. Note: We do not recommend using GPS to find our preserve. From Jackson, TN: From Interstate 40 take 45 bypass south to Hwy. 18 south to Bolivar. At second light in Bolivar (Courthouse Square) go through the light and then you re on 125 south to Middleton, turn west on Hwy. 57 and continue about 8 miles. Turn on Old State Line Road; there is no sign, so look for totem pole. Continue about 1.5 miles to the preserve. NOTE: After you turn onto Napier Rd., you will make a loop back under a Natchez Trace overpass. This bridge has an 11-foot. clearance. If your rig is taller, there is a small dirt bypass on the opposite side of Napier Rd with a 13 6 clearance. To avoid the underpass, take State Rt. 64 from East or West to route 241.
