2 SUTHERLAND PHILATELICS, PO BOX 448, FERNY HILLS D C, QLD 4055 Page 2 LEGEND Phosphor tagging of select US stamps commenced in August Not all stamps from that date are tagged. In general, tagged stamps are worth more than untagged stamps for the same issue. AOP LBT SBT NP HiBrite PCP PUP Block Tagging All Over Phosphor (Tagging) Large Block Tagging Small Block Tagging Non Phosphor (Tagging) Paper with added fluorescent brighteners; reacts violet under UV HiBrite paper issues are worth more than the corresponding issue without paper brightener. Phosphor Coated Paper (precoated) Phosphor Uncoated Paper (uncoated) A rectangle of phosphor on the stamp, not covering the whole face, and leaving a non phosphor frame. For many issues, the phosphor cylinder is misaligned thus the phosphor block is not centred on the stamp and can even overlap on adjacent stamps. Colours Phosphor glows orange red - air stamps before 1979 Phosphor glows yellow-green - air, commemorative & definitive stamps after 1979 Phosphor intensity is not uniform and can vary within an issue and between issues UV Lamp Wet Print Dry Print Tagging is not visible under white light but can be seen using a SHORT wave UV light. on soft paper on stiffer, whiter paper, sharper images
