3 Home to the oldest graveyard in the state at the Pioneer Cemetery Climb the largest Osageorange tree in the nation! Old Fort Harrod State Park & Summer Outdoor Theatre History Bursts to Life A full-scale replica of the fort, built by James Harrod in 17, commemorates the first permanent settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains, with cabins and blockhouses furnished with handmade utensils, furniture, crude tools andagricultural implements used by pioneers. Craftspeople in authentic period dress demonstrate some of the daily tasks performed such as weaving, basketry, woodworking, broom making and blacksmithing. Live animals may be found in the corral located in the center of the stockade walls. The park complex also features the Mansion Museum, a Greek Revival home built in 1830, which houses an outstanding collection of Civil War history, Native American artifacts, gun collection and more. Other highlights within the park are a pioneer cemetery, the Lincoln Marriage Temple housing the cabin where Abraham Lincoln s parents were married, George Rogers Clark Federal Monu- ment, and a gift shop. Visitors can attend the park s outdoor summer theatre: see a favorite musical in June, and in July watch James Harrod: The Battle For Kentucky, based on a chapter in Harrodsburg s history.
