3 Screamers Anhimidae Southern Screamer (Chauna torquata): One seen at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21 st. About 10 observed en route to El Palmar Oct 23 rd and about the same number at Ceibas Oct 25 th. Ducks - Anatidae White-faced Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna viduata): Small flocks (totaling 50) were at wetlands by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Four were at La Aurora del Palmar Oct 23 rd and 30 were at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. White-faced Whistling Duck Black-necked Swan (Cygnus melanocoryphus): Over 100 seen at wetlands by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Coscoroba Swan (Coscoroba coscoroba): Thirty seen at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21 st ; 20 were seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th and 30 on Oct 20 th. Ringed Teal (Callonetta leucophrys): Three were at the entrance to Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. One was perched on the railing and quite tame. Brazilian Teal (Amazonetta brasiliensis): Two were seen as flyovers at Iguazu NP Oct 10 th. Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th and a pair at La Aurora del Palmar Oct 23 rd. Chiloe (Southern) Wigeon (Anas sibilatrix): Two seen at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21 st. 3

4 Cinnamon Teal (Anas cyanoptera): Eight seen at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Red Shoveler (Anas platalea): One seen at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Yellow-billed Pintail (Anas georgica): Five seen at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Three observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th and two on Oct 20 th. Yellow-billed (Speckled) Teal (Anas flavirostris): Four (female with young) were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. Ten were seen at a wetland by the highway, en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Eight observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th and six on Oct 20 th. Rosy-billed Pochard (Netta peposaca): Six were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. Guans, Chachalacas - Cracidae Rusty-margined Guan (Penelope superciliaris): One briefly seen at Surucua Lodge Oct 14 th. *Dusky-legged Guan (Penelope obscura): Heard at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22 nd. Quails Odontophoridae Spot-winged Wood-Quail (Odontophorus capueira): One flushed from the trail in the hill forest behind San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12 th. Grebes - Podicipedidae White-tufted Grebe (Rollandia rolland): One seen at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Pied-billed Grebe (Podilymbus podiceps): Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. Two seen were at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21 st and a single at Ceibas wetlands Oct 25 th. Flamingos - Phoenicopteridae Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis) Near-threatened: Several seen at Punta Rasa Reserve Oct 19 th and 20 th. Storks Ciconiidae Maguari Stork (Ciconia maguari): Approximately 15 was seen en route to San Clemente Oct18 th. Singles observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th and Oct 20 th. Fifteen were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. One was soaring near Otamendi Reserve Oct 22 nd. Five were seen in over flight at El Palmar Oct 23 rd and 10 were at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. 4

5 Maguari Stork, Ceibas marshes Cormorants - Phalacrocoracidae Neotropic Cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus): Ten were seen at Iguazu NP on Oct 10 th and a few along the river at Surucua Lodge Oct 14 th. Ten were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. About 15 observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th and over 50 Oct 20 th. Four were at El Palmar NP Oct 24 th and five at Ceibas wetlands Oct 25 th. Anhingas - Anhingidae Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga): Two were seen along the river at Iguazu NP on Oct 10 th and one was seen at swimming body submerged in a pond Ceibas wetlands Oct 25 th. Herons - Ardeidae Rufescent Tiger-Heron (Tigrisoma lineatum): Singles were seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct th and one heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 15 th. Cocoi (Black-necked) Heron (Ardea cocoi): One observed at Punta Rasa on Oct 20 th. One was seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. One was seen at El Palmar Oct 24 th and three at Ceibas wetlands on Oct 25 th. Great Egret (Egretta alba): Two were seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10 th and another at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13 th. Five were seen during the drive to San Clement Oct 18 th. Two observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th and eight Oct 20 th. Over 25 were seen in fields along the highway from San 5

Snowy Egret (Egretta thula): Singles were seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct th. One observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th and two Oct 20 th. Two were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. One was at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22 nd and two at Ceibas wetlands Oct 25th. Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis): Around one hundred were observed at a night roost at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12 th and 13 th. Over 200 were seen in fields en route to San Clemente Oct 18 th. Thirty were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Striated Heron (Butorides striatus): Singles were seen at San Sebastian lodge Oct th and at Surucua Lodge Oct th. Whistling Heron (Syrigma sibilatrix): One seen in over flight at El Palmar Oct 24 th and two at Ceibas wetlands Oct 25 th. Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax): Singles were seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct th Ibises Threskiornithidae White-faced Ibis (Plegadis chihi): Over 500 were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Thirty seen en route to El Palmar Oct 23 rd and over 50 at Ceibas marshes on Oct 25 th. *Green Ibis (Mesembrinibis cayennensis): One heard at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 15 th. 7 Roseate Spoonbill (Platalea ajaja): Three observed at Punta Rasa on Oct 20 th. New World Vultures - Cathartidae Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus): Small numbers were seen daily in Misiones Province. Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura): Small numbers were seen daily in Misiones Province. Five were at El Palmar Oct 23 rd and a few seen there Oct 24 th. King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa): Good looks of an adult perched with other vultures at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12 th. Hawks - Accipitridae White-tailed Kite (Elanus leucurus): Two were seen during the drive to San Clement Oct 18 th. Snail Kite (Rostrhamus sociabilis): One observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th. One was seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Four were seen at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. Plumbeous Kite (Ictinia plumbea): Two seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10 th, and 15 at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13 and 14 th. Long-winged Harrier (Circus buffoni): Two were seen during the drive to San Clemente Oct 18 th. Three observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th and five Oct 20 th. Two were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Two were seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22 nd and three at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. Cinereous Harrier (Circus cinereus): One was at Abra Pampa Oct 2 nd and two were seen at Lago Pozuelos Oct 3 rd. One observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th. Roadside Hawk (Buteo magnirostris): Singles were seen daily at San Sebastian and Surucua Lodges Oct th. Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. One was at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th. Three were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Two were seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22 nd and a couple ad day at El Palmar and Ceibas marshes Oct th. Harris s Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus): Two observed at El Palmar Oct 24 th. Rails Rallidae Giant Wood-Rail (Aramides ypecaha): Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. One was seen at the marsh at El Palmar Oct 23 rd and over 20 at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. 7

One was heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 15 th. *Blackish Rail (Pardirallus nigricans): One heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 15 th. Plumbeous Rail (Pardirallus sanguinolentus): Two were seen in wetlands along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Singles were seen at Punta Rasa Oct th. Common (Moorhen) Gallinule (Gallinula chloropus): A few were seen each day at the pond area, San Sebastian Lodge Oct th. One was at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. Ten were at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. Spot-flanked Gallinule (Gallinula melanops): Three were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. Red-gartered Coot (Fulica armillata): Good looks of one at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. Over 10 were seen in wetlands along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Red-fronted Coot (Fulica rufifrons): Five seen at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. White-winged Coot (Fulica leucoptera): Five were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. Limpkins - Aramidae *Limpkin (Aramus guarauna): One heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 15 th. 8

9 Sheathbills Chionidae Snowy Sheathbill (Chionis alba): One was seen at the tip of Punta Rasa on Oct 20 th. Obviously a vagrant. Snowy Sheathbill, Punta Rasa Stilts and Avocets - Recurvirostridae Black-necked Stilt (Himantopus mexicanus mexicanus): Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. Over 20 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and over 50 on the 20 th. Twenty were seen in wet fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Three were seen at La Aurora Del Palmar Oct 23 rd. Oystercatchers - Haematopodidae American Oystercatcher (Haematopus palliates): Several seen both days at Punta Rasa. Plovers - Charadriidae Black-bellied Plover (Pluvialis squatarola): Two were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and 20 th 9

10 American Golden Plover (Pluvialis dominica): About 10 seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th and 20 on Oct 20 th. Southern Lapwing (Vanellus chilensis): Many observed in fields during the drive to San Clemente Oct 18 th. Over 50 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and 20 th. Over 100 were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. A few were seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22 nd and at El Palmar and Ceibas Oct 23 rd -25 th. Southern Lapwing, Punta Rasa Semipalmated Plover (Charadrius semipalmatus): One was seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 20 th. Jacanas Jacanidae Wattled Jacana (Jacana jacana): Two observed near the pond area Oct th at San Sebastian Lodge. Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. One was seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Two were seen at Aurora Del Palmar Oct 23 rd and 15 at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. Sandpipers - Scolopacidae Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius): Singles were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and 20 th. Solitary Sandpiper (Tringa solitaria): One flushed from the pond area at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13 th. 10

11 Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca): Five seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and two on the 20 th Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes): Five were seen in wet fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Over 50 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and greater than 100 on Oct 20 th Hudsonian Godwit (Limosa haemastica): Over 75 seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19 th and 50 on Oct 20 th. Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres): Singles were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and 20 th. Red Knot (Calidris canutus): Two were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th. White-rumped Sandpiper (Calidris fuscicollis): Over 250 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and over 500 on Oct 20 th. South American Snipe (Gallinago paraguaiae): Four were seen in flight including a displaying male at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. Gulls - Laridae Brown-hooded Gull (Cirrocephalus maculipennis): Over 30 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and over 10 on Oct 20 th. Over 100 were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Gray-hooded Gull (Cirrocephalus cirrocephalus): Over 50 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and over 50 on Oct 20 th. Olrog s (Band-tailed) Gull (Larus atlanticus): Breeding Endemic, Vulnerable: Five were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th. Kelp Gull (Larus dominicus): Fifteen were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and over 500 on Oct 20 th. Common Tern (Sterna hirundo): Over 100 was seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and over 200 on the 20 th South American Tern (Sterna hirundinacea): Over 20 was seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th. Snowy-crowned Tern (Sterna trudeaui): Over 50 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and over 500 on Oct 20 th. 11

Sandwich (Cayenne) Tern (Sterna (eurygnatha) sandvicensis): One was seen roosting with other terns at the Punta Rasa Reserve tip area Oct 20 th. Black Skimmer (Rhynchops niger): Over 30 seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and five Oct 20 th. Pigeons - Columbidae Rock Pigeon (Columba livia): Singles were at San Sebastian Lodge Oct th. Common and widespread in the BA area: Many were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Many were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and Oct 20 th. Many were observed at Campana Oct 22 nd, in the El Palmar area Oct and at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. Pale-vented Pigeon (Patagioenas cayennensis): One was observed at Iguazu NP Oct 10 th and a few were seen daily at San Sebastian Lodge Oct th. Picazuro Pigeon (Patagioenas picazuro): A few observed at Iguazu NP Oct 10 th, en route to San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12 th, with two the following day. Two at Surucua Lodge on Oct 15 th. Many were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. Many were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and over 50 on Oct 20 th. Fairly common in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to 12

Spot-winged Pigeon (Patagioenas maculosa): Ten were at El Palmar NP Oct 23 rd and over 50 seen on the 25 th. A few were noted en route to Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. Ruddy Ground-Dove (Columbina talpacoti): Two at our lodge at Iguazu Oct 9 th ; and a few daily at Iguazu Hummingbird Gardens and San Sebastian Lodge Oct th. Scaled Dove (Columbina squammata): One heard at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13 th and a few observed in fields driving back to Iguazu Oct 16 th. Picui Ground-Dove (Columbina picui): Two were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Two were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and five on Oct 20 th. Two were observed at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22 nd. Two were noted at El Palmar Oct 23 rd and five on Oct 24 th. Six were seen at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. Ruddy Quail-Dove (Geotrygon montana): One heard at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12 th, and singles seen at Surucua Lodge Oct th. White-tipped Dove (Leptotila verreauxi): Five were at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13 th and two seen on the 14 th. One was observed at El Palmar Oct 23 rd. Grey-fronted Ground-Dove (Leptotila rufaxilla): One was observed at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12 th, two the following day and one at Surucua Lodge Oct 15 th. Eared Dove (Zenaida auriculata): Seen daily in the Iguazu area Oct 9-12 th. Many were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th. Over 100 s were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th and Oct 20 th. Over 100 were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Ten were observed at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22 nd. Thousands were at El Palmar Oct Cuckoos - Cuculidae Ash-colored Cuckoo (Coccyzus cinereus): One was in a small tree beside the road at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. Squirrel Cuckoo (Piaya cayana): Two were seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10 th and three along the Macuco Trail Oct 11 th ; singles were at San Sebastian and Surucua Lodges Oct th. Guira Cuckoo (Guira guira): Two were seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12 th and three on Oct 13 th. Many were at Costanera Sur Oct 18 th and during the drive to San Clemente. Three were at the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19 th. Five were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21 st. Several were at Ceibas marshes Oct 25 th. 13

14 Guira Cuckoo *Striped Cuckoo (Tapera naevia): One heard along roadside en route to Puerto Iguazu Oct 16 th ; One or two heard singing at El Palmar NP Oct th. Smooth-billed Ani (Crotophaga ani): A few were seen at Iguazu NP Oct th, and several at San Sebastian Lodge Oct th. Owls - Strigidae *Tropical Screech-Owl (Megascops choliba): One was heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 14 th. *Black-capped (Long-tufted) Screech-Owl (Megascops atricapilla): Heard at San Sebastian Lodge Oct th. Despite efforts and getting within 25 meters of the owl couldn t locate it. Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia): One was seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area on Oct 20 th. Mottled Owl (Ciccaba virgata): Heard at Surucua Lodge on Oct 14 th and had great looks of one using spotlights, perched in the open the following night. Nightjars Caprimulgidae *Common Nighthawk (Chordeiles minor): One heard at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13 th. *Short-tailed (Semi-collared) Nighthawk (Lurocalis semitorquatus): One heard at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13 th. Common Pauraque (Nyctidromus albicollis): One heard at our lodging in Iguazu Oct 11 th, two heard and one seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13 th, and one flushed and two heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 15 th. 14

15 Scissor-tailed Nightjar (Hydropsalis brasiliana): Two observed at El Palmar in the evening of Oct 23 rd, and eight seen the following evening, including displaying males. Potoos Nyctibiidae Common Potoo (Nyctibius griseus): Heard at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13 th and Surucua Lodge Oct 15 th. One observed roosting near San Sebastian lodge the morning of Oct 15 th. Common Potoo, San Sebastian Lodge Swifts - Apodidae Sooty Swift (Cypseloides fumigatus): Two seen flying over San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13 th.
