2 ITINERARY Meals: B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner Sun 5 May Auckland - Santiago, Chile Assemble at Auckland International Airport and depart - via Buenos Aires with Air NZ - to Santiago, Chile s capital and largest city. Our Chilean guide will meet you on arrival and transfer you to your city hotel. Meals: In flight Overnight: Santiago Mon 6 May Santiago A day to relax after your late night arrival. Later enjoy a Welcome to Chile cocktail - the chance to try the delicious Chilean national drink, the Pisco Sour - and dinner where you can better get to know your fellow travellers. Meals: B - D Overnight: Santiago Tues 7 May Santiago Take a walking tour of the city with visits to the Franciscan cloister and museum of Pre-Colombian art, a spectacular display of native American art, some of which bears uncanny resemblances to Maori artefacts. After lunch at a top restaurant, visit a Lapis-lazuli workshop and centre for artisans where local arts and crafts are showcased. In the evening, enjoy dinner overlooking the city. Meals: B, L, D Overnight: Santiago Thurs 9 May Santiago - Puerto Varas We travel to the agricultural area to the south of the city, where we visit fruit growers including the established Undurraga vineyard for an insight into the Chilean wine industry. Then it s off to the airport to check in for the 90 minute flight to Puerto Montt. Transfer to scenic Puerto Varas, a resort centre on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. Enjoy dinner at one of the town s finest restaurants with excellent wine matching. Meals: B - D Overnight: Puerto Varas Fri 10 May Puerto Varas - Valdivia This morning visit Puerto Montt, the port for southern Chile, to take a look at the local catch and the crafts, before heading north to visit a lakeside dairy which milks cows and fattens steers on pasture. Weather dependent, enjoy a bbq lunch with our charming hosts before travelling to the riverside town of Valdivia on the shores of the estuary. Overnight: Valdivia Wed 8 May Santiago - Valparaiso - Santiago Today we head west to the Pacific Ocean through the Curacavi and Casablanca Valleys and visit a local horticulture enterprise producing for the local market. We have a spectacular seafood lunch overlooking the ocean before a quick run through Chile s major port, Valparaiso. Return to Santiago where you are free to relax for the evening. 3 Sat 11 May Chilean Dairy Country This morning visit a NZ-Chilean dairy venture for a short presentation on the kiwi presence in Chilean agriculture. Enjoy lunch and discussions on the farm and look at their operation. Continue in the afternoon to the foothills of the Andes for a stay at the old, remodelled grand hotel of Puyehue Hot Springs. Meals: B, L, D Overnight: Puyehue Sun 12 May Around the Chilean Lakes A wonderful day to enjoy the Chilean mountains. Depending on the weather, you can make excursions into the woods, go horseback riding (extra cost) or just relax and enjoy the naturally heated pools. The hotel also offers full spa services (extra cost) of mud baths, massages, Reiki, sauna and more. Meals: B, L, D Overnight: Puyehue Mon 13 May Puyehue - Bariloche Today we travel across the grand Andes Mountains to San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina, one of the biggest cities in Patagonia, on the shore of Nahuel Huapi lake. Bariloche is in a transition area between the glacial lakes and forests at the foot of the Andes, with almost 4000 mm annual rainfall, and the arid and huge desert area with less than 200 mm rainfall and swept by dry winds. Transfer to a downtown hotel. Overnight: Bariloche Tues 14 May San Carlos De Bariloche Visit a ranch in the province of Neuquen, 40km from Bariloche. It has 10,000 ha dedicated to Hereford and Angus cattle, Merino sheep and forestry. Ranches in the area have huge extensions due to their low carrying capacity, given to them by the mallines, valleys with water springs or creeks that allow for natural grassland and sometime for improved pastures. Return to Bariloche in the afternoon. Overnight: Bariloche Wed 15 May Bariloche - Buenos Aires In the morning we tour the city and surrounding area, viewing several lakes, and some of the highest mountains, including Catedral (main ski resort) and Tronador (Thunder Mountain) with its three peaks (Argentine, Chilean and International). Next transfer to airport for a two hour flight to exciting Buenos Aires the capital city of Argentina and one of the largest cities in the world with a total population of 14 million. Transfer to the downtown area of the city. In the evening, we go to the old part of town for dinner and a spectacular Tango show. We ll have the chance to see some of the best dancers in the country performing old and new variations of the dance, with a full Tango orchestra. Tango was born in the Buenos Aires port area, in the beginning of the 20th century, by a mixture of European and African rhythms. Meals: B - D Overnight: Buenos Aires

4 Thurs 16 May Buenos Aires Tour the city including La Boca and San Telmo, with its flea markets, Palermo and Barrio Norte districts, with the expensive houses and classic architecture; Puerto Madero, recycled port area where the old warehouses were reconverted into modern offices, restaurants and apartments; Recoleta and its cemetery (where Eva Peron s grave is) and the Plaza de Mayo, the cathedral, among other sights. Enjoy lunch at one of BA s nicest restaurants. The rest of the day is free for shopping or personal sightseeing. Overnight: Buenos Aires Fri 17 May Buenos Aires An early start this morning to a huge livestock market (if visit permitted) located inside Buenos Aires city limits, where 8-12,000 head of cattle are sold some days for processing in the abattoirs for domestic consumption. We ll have a chance to watch the simultaneous auctions taking place in the different areas of the market and inspect the cattle from above to get a good idea of the cattle herd of Argentina - the good and the bad come here to be sold. The dominant breeds are Aberdeen Angus and Hereford. It is also a very good place to buy Gaucho souvenirs, lassos, mate gourds, etc. Next depart to visit Argentina s largest pedigree Angus herd outside the city. Enjoy a hearty farm lunch with your hosts and see the operation. Later return to BA for the evening. Sun 19 May Necochea Area Travelling west today, we visit a dairy farm producing cheese to gain an insight into Argentina s dairy industry. Then we visit a nearby family farm of 1400 ha with Arab horse breeding as its main focus - 40 mares and a total of approximately 150 horses, plus some working horses make up the total population. It also has a full cycle cattle operation, with 700 cows, finishing all its production in the ranch. Some land is leased out for cropping. After enjoying superb farm hospitality over lunch, we leave the property and travel to Necochea a prosperous town which offers agricultural services to one of the most important farming areas in the country. Overnight: Necochea Overnight: Buenos Aires Sat 18 May Buenos Aires - Necochea We leave Buenos Aires in the morning, travelling south across the vast Pampas - the expansive agricultural plains for which Argentina is famous. As well as cattle on the lower areas, you will see large areas of crops such as maize, soybean and wheat. We ll visit a farm typical of the region. In the afternoon, we travel to the coastal resort city of Mar del Plata - although quiet at this time of year, the population doubles in the summertime. Perhaps you can sample local seafood for dinner tonight. Meals: B, L, D Overnight: Necochea Mon 20 May Necochea - Buenos Aires In the morning we travel to visit the area of Grigdale. Visit a farming family, with strong Scottish roots, growing around 2000ha of direct drilled crops. Inspect the farm and enjoy time in the established homestead and gardens. In the afternoon, we return to Buenos Aires across the poorest area of the Pampas, the Salado river basin - a large area prone to flooding due to its poor drainage and low elevation. This region is responsible for a large number of the calves bred in the country. Most properties have crops in the hills and cow-calf operations in the lower areas. A free evening in Buenos Aires tonight. Overnight: Buenos Aires

5 Thur 23 May Puerto Iguazu Today we will visit the Falls on the Brazilian side. We cross the Iguazu River and the border into Brazil, through the Tancredo Neves Bridge. We enter the National Park, for a panoramic view of the falls, 75 % of which are in Argentina but the Brazilians have the view. Lunch in a Brazilian style churrascaria (different cuts of beef, pork and chicken are brought to the table on swords). Return to Argentina via the three borders point at the Argentine village of Puerto Iguazú, looking at the Brazilian and Paraguayan side across the Parana River and Iguazú rivers, at their confluence. *NB - A visa for Brazil may be required if not travelling on a NZ passport. Tues 21 May Buenos Aires - Iguazu Falls Transfer to airport early this morning for your flight to Puerto Iguazú, in Argentina, on the border with Paraguay and Brazil. This small town is located at the confluence of the Iguazú and Parana Rivers, natural borders between the three countries. Arrive at the Sheraton International Hotel, which has a wonderful view of the amazing Iguazú Falls, located a few steps away from the middle of a sub-tropical rain forest. The hotel is the only one inside the National Park, in a natural environment where pumas, jaguars, alligators and many colourful birds live. Time to walk on the walkways through the falls and use the swimming pool before dusk. Overnight: Iguazu Falls Wed 22 May Puerto Iguazu Visit the Argentina side of the Falls, including Garganta del Diablo (Devil s Throat), the highest fall of the whole complex. Take a boat ride to the bottom of the Falls, into the rapids, for a very close look at the powerful river. Then we travel down the river, returning to the hotel in a 4WD truck, looking at the jungle. There is always a chance to spot some of the wildlife on the area including tapir, toucans, vultures, capybara, monkeys and even jaguars. Overnight: Iguazu Falls Fri 24 May Depart Iguazu - BA - Auckland Time to relax this morning at the Iguazu Hotel, prior to transferring to the Iguazú Airport to fly to Buenos Aires and onto Auckland. Alternatively, continue your tour to Brazil. Sat 25 May Lost in Transit Sun 26 May Arrive Auckland Arrive into Auckland International Airport early this morning and continue your journey home. Farm To Farm Tours Ltd reserves the right to amend the price to reflect changes in exchange rates, airfares, aviation fuel and tariffs beyond our control. The price and inclusions are based on a minimum of 15 paying travellers and the price or itinerary may be amended if the group does not reach this number. The tour price is based on payment by cheque, cash or direct credit. For payments by credit card, a full retail price will apply which is an additional 2.75%. Payment and Cancellation A non-refundable deposit of $1500 per person is payable on booking. The balance is required 12 weeks prior to departure. If it is necessary to cancel your tour, monies will be refunded less a cancellation fee (per person) as follows: More than 12 weeks before departure - Deposit Between 12 and 6 weeks before departure - 40% Between 6 weeks and 30 days before departure - 60% Less than 30 days before departure - No refund An additional fee may apply to offset any booking, communication or administration charges already incurred by us. You may also be required to pay cancellation fees imposed by our Suppliers. After departure from New Zealand, no refunds are available for unused portions of the tour programme. In the event of insufficient bookings 12 weeks before commencement of the tour, the tour may be cancelled with a full refund of your deposit. Insurance Full travel insurance is compulsory for all travellers. Please ensure your insurance policy is in place by the time you make payment for the tour. Meals: B - D Overnight: Campinas Sat 25 May Campinas - Ribeirão Preto After breakfast gain an insight into dairying in Brazil, visiting a large enterprise with a total herd of 4,200 (1480 Holstein cows producing 60,000 litres per day). The property comprises 2100 ha of which 600 ha are used for milk production. The farm has its own dairy processing plant where they make yoghurt and cheese from 40% of their milk - the other 60% is destined for market. Next visit a leading Mangalarga horse breeder and cattle farm - the Walking Mangalarga Horses has a long and important history in Brazil. Enjoy a buffet lunch at the farm which was once a large coffee plantation. Continue on to the agricultural hub of Ribeirão Preto, in Sao Paulo State, for an evening at leisure. Overnight: Riberiao Preto Sun 26 May Around Ribeirão Preto Depart this morning and visit a coffee farm comprising 1100 ha of which 350 ha is dedicated to producing 100% Arabica Coffee, 200 ha to sugar and 100 ha to corn. Here the sugar cane is processed into a high quality cachaca spirt, the main ingredient of Brazil s iconic caipirinha cocktail - which you will of course have a chance to sample! Enjoy a special Brazilian lunch at the farm with the owners and learn about the farm s rich and interesting history dating back to the days of colonization. Later return to Ribeirão Preto for a free evening. Overnight: Riberião Preto Mon 27 May 24 May - 1 June 2019 Ribeirão Preto - Rio De Janeiro Travel through an expansive sugar cane area. Brazil is the world s leading sugarcane producer, harvesting up to 700 million tonne of cane per year. Sugarcane occupies an area of 7.8 million hectares, representing 2.3% of the country s arable land. Brazil is pioneer in the use of ethanol as vehicle fuel. Visit a large sugar and ethanol mill where you will learn about the production process and see how modern technology is used to convert sugarcane into energy. Brazil is producing a staggering 32 million tonne of sugar and 28 billion litres of ethanol per year making it energy self sufficient.
