Flowering, fertile citrus groves, vineyards, fruit trees and orchards, chestnut woods, beech woods, pine woods spread right up to the highest point. These streets are well known for being the shooting set of the famous movie The Godfather. Our first stop is in Savoca, here you will be able to visit the fascinating catacombs of the Cappuccini Convent and the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the central square. Afterwards, the excursion will lead you to Forza d Agrò, a charming medieval village overlooking the coastline towards Messina and the straits. Free time at disposal and return in the late afternoon. The visit begins with the Neapolis archaeological park, the most characteristic part of the old Greek city (Greek theatre, Latomia del Paradiso, Ear of Dionysius, Roman amphitheatre). Afterwards, the excursion heads towards Ortigia wellknown for the ruins of the earliest Greek constructions. The greatest and most singular monument of Ortigia is the cathedral of Syracuse which rises on the highest point of the peninsula. One of the most famous spots in Ortigia is the Fountain of Arethusa, a freshwater spring forming a pool with papyrus plants, situated on a wide terrace overlooking the sea. Afterwards, visit of the ancient baroque town: Noto, one of the most important in Sicily. Return to Taormina at around 6 pm. You can see typical pastoral life and taste the local Sicilian specialities and wine in Argimusco. We will take you to the Sicilian Stone Age Rocks : large megalithic rocks, shaped like animals and people. At the height of 1,400 m. there is a magnificent view of Mount Etna, the Aeolian Islands and the Peloritani Woods. Continuation to Montalbano with its typical narrow medieval streets. We will pass over ancient and more recent lava flows until reaching a renowned winery, where the professional explanations of a wine expert will lead us towards an amazing tasting of different wines and appetizers. We will continue our tour towards Linguaglossa, a typical village on the slopes of mount Etna. The visit will start by admiring the Dome of Santa Maria delle Grazie, with its beautiful façade decorated with lava stone. Afterwards you will have some free time and the possibility to visit the small ethnographic museum. Return to your hotel around 7.30 pm. 7 6 HD Sicilian Cooking Lesson 85 At 9:00 am meet with our chef Massimo at Porta Messina for a little coffee break. The tour will begin at the Taormina market with the explanation of the displayed products and how they can be handled. After the explanation, the chef will buy the ingredients that you need for the lesson. Once arrived at the restaurant you will find a table with all the tools you need to start cooking and an apron. Let s begin now! You will learn how to make homemade pasta in the traditional way. After that you will make the Caponata with the vegetables bought at the market. During the lesson you will learn and make other different dishes from the Sicilian culinary tradition such as fresh sardines, zucchini flowers and more. Once everything will be done, you will sit at a table where you will enjoy all the dishes you prepared along with a selection of Sicilian wines and liquors. Mineral water and coffee are included. To all the participants will be given a nice recipe in English and a certificate of participation from the Chef.
