4 WORKSHOP VENUE RAFFLES WORLD ACADEMY Al Marcup Street (formerly Street 7), Umm Suqeim 3, Dubai, United Arab Emirates Tel: /2 / local dial: /2 GePng there If arriving by car, there is plenty of parking available at the front of the school. Driving DirecUons: Head for Junc8on 4 (exit 39) on the Sheikh Zayed Road, signposted D63 Umm Suqeim Road (West), also signposted for the Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah. At the main junc8on at the end of Umm Suqeim Road, turn right into (302) Jumeirah Beach Road, heading towards Dubai and the Burj al Arab/Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Turn right at the Emirates Bank (directly opposite the Burj al Arab). At the end of the road, turn lef and then second right into Al Marcup Street. The Raffles World Academy is on Al Marcup Street on the right hand side. If you are staying at our recommended workshop hotel, the Novotel Al Barsha there will be buses to transport you to the workshop and back to the hotel each day. Please note that these are only for residents of the hotel and we appreciate your coopera8on in this. If you are not staying at the Novotel Al Barsha please take a taxi. 7 VISA INFORMATION For passport holders of these na8onali8es below, visas are granted on arrival and at no cost. Your passport is stamped at immigra8on with a 30 day visa. Your passport should be valid for SIX months or more prior to the date of travel. VISIT VISA you must have this before you travel If your na8onality is NOT listed above, you need to apply for a visa before you travel. This is applicable for those with passports from Asian countries, African countries, Middle East na8onals (excluding GCC na8onals), na8onals not included in Commonwealth Countries. Again, your passport must be valid for SIX months or more prior to the expiry date. 8 EXCURSIONS A number of par8cipants on previous workshops with us have said that they never had the chance to see anything of Dubai during their short visit. We have therefore, made arrangements with a local company, Orient Tours Dubai for those who wish to book an evening excursion. The tours, which are exclusively for IBICUS par8cipants are described by the tour company as follows: Thursday 25 th September 2014 HALF DAY DUBAI CITY TOUR Pick Up: 17:30 hrs from Raffles World Academy and drop off approx 21:00 hours to your hotel or nearest metro. Price: Dhs 100 Per Person OR US Dollar 28 Per Person Experience the new Dubai during this tour with a difference. Driving down Sheikh Zayed Road, admire the gli;ering high rises en route to Souk Madinat Jumeirah, a beau8ful recrea8on of an Arabian style market place. Afer a photo stop at the iconic Burj Al Arab your drive con8nues to Palm Jumeirah, a fully reclaimed, palm shaped island that is home to the magnificent Atlan8s, The Palm. Afer a photo- stop, con8nue to Ski Dubai, the first indoor ski slope in the region, offering fresh snow all year around. Our final stop will be at the base of what is currently the world s tallest building, the Burj Dubai. Here you have 8me to admire the Dubai Fountain, a spectacle of lights and sound and one of the world s largest performing fountains. Price: Dhs 180 Per Person Or US Dollar 47 Per Person This tour departs in the evening for a short drive over the sand dunes to reach our campsite, where you have the opportunity to enjoy camel riding, sand boarding, shisha (famous Arabic smoking- water pipe) and get a henna design on your hands or feet. Our Tanoora Dancer will treat you with his performance before the delicious barbecue dinner and before returning to Dubai, you can watch our belly dancer performing her show by starligh OR EVENING - TRADITIONAL DHOW CRUISE WITH DINNER Pick Up: 19:00 hrs from your hotel and drop off approx 21:00 hours to your hotel or nearest metro. 9 FAQ / OTHER INFORMATION What is included in the workshop fee? Tui8on from workshop leaders, workshop materials and workbook, lunches and refreshments (see below) and admin support during the event. Transport to and from the workshop venue is included for par8cipants who have booked our workshop hotel deal. GePng to Dubai Dubai Interna8onal Airport is a busy airport served by Emirates and most other interna8onal airlines. How do I get from the airport to my hotel? By far the easiest way is to take one of the many and reasonably priced taxis which are right outside the airport terminal. These are safe at any 8me of the day and single lady travellers are ofen offered a female driver. If you want to pre- book at any 8me (not required on arrival) then try The Dubai Taxi Corpora8on on ( if dialing locally). How do I get from my hotel to the workshop venue? If you have booked into the hotel with which we have nego8ated special rates, via the contact details given in this booklet (see Hotel Informa8on) then free bus transporta8on will be provided between the hotel and the workshop venue on workshop days. When do the workshops start? Please come through the main school entrance of Raffles World Academy to the RegistraUon Desks between 0900 and 0930 on Thursday 25 th September. There is no need to register at the front desks on subsequent days. What should I wear? What will the weather be like then in Dubai? Casual dress, but respectul of the local culture. What to bring Any materials requested in advance by your workshop leader, including your subject guide (there will be no spare copies on site). Bring either electronic or paper versions as you prefer. Do I need an electrical adaptor? The electricity current is 220/240volts and requires 3- pin plugs (UK plugs work withouth an adaptor). Can I access the internet at the school? WiFi is available in most areas of the school for your own smart phone/laptop. School ICT facili8es are also available during break 8mes. 9

10 FAQ conunued What meals are provided? Lunches and refreshments including vegetarian op8ons - are provided on Thursday and Friday during the workshop. On Saturday we finish before lunch but will provide refreshments at the morning break. For sugges8ons for your evening meals, you might like to look at and Is alcohol available in Dubai? Dubai s licensing laws require venues serving alcohol be a;ached to hotels or a private clubs. It is illegal to drink in the street or in a public space. What is the currency in Dubai? The currency in the UAE is the Arab Emirates Dirham (AED). What is the Ume difference? The UAE is 4 hours ahead of GMT. Do I get a CerUficate aner the event? Yes, this will be sent to you as a PDF document afer the event. How do I evaluate the workshop? You will be ed a link to complete an online evalua8on form. Where are the best places to shop? Shopping is a pas8me in Dubai whether in souks or malls. 11 FAQ conunued What if I need a doctor? We shall brief you on arrival about what to do in the event of a fire or emergency in the school. If you feel ill during the workshop, please come to the recep8on desk and we will endeavour to assist. Obviously you should ask immediately at your hotel for assistance if you fall ill whilst resident there. You should ensure, before you travel to the workshop, that you have appropriate accident, health and medical insurance.
