3 WHO ARE WE? Solidarités Jeunesses (SJ) is a non-formal education national movement that values vo- luntary commitment, strong political will, and social solidarity as its core principles. Our course of action is influenced by our ideal vision of a society where progress is social. Respect for human beings and the environ- ment is a fundamental and shared value, and the freedom to choose, to dream, and to resist is innate and encouraged by all. Our activities are organised for all, re- gardless of gender, social and cultural background, or nationality. Since its crea- tion, SJ participates in the construction and maintenance of peace by promoting inter- cultural and international social connections in France and abroad. SJ works through participative pedagogy which supports initiative and personal commitment, and combines the skills and intelligences of all our volunteers, active members and staff. Solidarités Jeunesses is composed of a National Secretary based in Paris, eight regional offices, and one partner association. Our delegations host volunteers from France and from all around the world for short or long periods of time all year round. Furthermore, the partner association and the delegations host and provide assistance to young people with fewer opportunities, as part of our efforts towards inclusion and solidarity. All of our delegations and the partner association are situated in unique environments, such as castles, former camp sites, isolated villages in the heart of the mountains, and former factories. These places have all been renovated thanks to the work of our short and long-term volunteers, workers and permanent staff. SJ has been working in partnership with na- tional and international networks (Cotravaux, CNAJEP, CCIVS, NVDA and Alliance) for se- veral decades. 5 VIR VOLT SJ - ILE DE FRANCE RESEAU D ENTRAIDE VOLONTAIRE - SJ OCCITANIE LA MAISON DES BATELEURS SJ NOUVELLE-AQUITAINE The goal of Vir Volt association is to boost the dynamic of international workcamps for young volunteers in urban and rural areas of the Ile-de-France region. Vir Volt wants to mix international participants, youngsters in social exclusion, and local inhabitants. Living together in harmony, where each individual can find his place in the group, no matter where he comes from or where he is going, is the motto. Founded in 1974 by a small group of locals, the REV became the Languedoc-Roussillon regional delegation of Solidarités Jeunesses national movement in The delegation is based out of two houses located in the centre of the village of Beauvoisin. The smallest house is a permanent home of volunteers, and contains two offices: this is where life takes place in this community of discovery and exchange of traditions, habits, moods, and dreams. Since April 2011, the REV has hosted small groups, a practice that we want to develop in order to facilitate the exchange between people from different cultures, generations, and social backgrounds. La Maison des Bateleurs, which opened 16 years ago in Montendre, organizes around 15 international workcamps in the region and several other international activities all year long, to ensure multicultural and inter-generational exchanges and active solidarity. In La Maison des Bateleurs, you can find long term volunteers, permanent workers, and groups of young people who come to enjoy the nice environment of the Charente-Maritime region. CENTRE DE BEAUMOTTE SJ - BOURGOGNE-FRANCHE-COMTE LES VILLAGES DES JEUNES SJ PROVENCE-ALPES-CÔTE-D AZUR The Beaumotte Center association was created in 1979 on the site of an old factory on the banks of the «Onion» river. It is located in the village of Beaumotte-Aubertans, a village of 391 inhabitants. The nearest towns are Vesoul (25 Km) and Besançon (30 Km). The association provides a place of respite for those in difficulty, and a training ground for people to develop and test their own abilities. The presence of international volunteers guarantees openness, tolerance of differences, and active solidarity. LE CRÉNEAU SJ AUVERGNE-RHONE-ALPES The castle of Prureaux is a welcoming place that provides opportunities for everyone to participate in projects and learn how to live and work together in spite of linguistic, socio-cultural or socio-economic differences, and prejudices existing in society. This is an opportunity for people from near and far the diversity of the inhabitants of the castle is culturally enriching and teaches people how to live together, to exchange their customs and traditions, and to live in respect and tolerance. Les Villages des Jeunes works towards social integration and participation of all. Its objective is to allow people from different social and cultural situations to work together to complete projects beneficial to the community. The association runs two international hosting centres near the Alps: the Faï farm with its singing mountains and the hamlet of Vaunières, an isolated hamlet at an altitude of 1200 meters. 5

6 PARTNER ASSOCIATION CITRUS SJ OCCITANIE In 2002, Citrus was established in Toulouse, under the initiative of a group of young volunteers driven by the desire to develop volunteer projects. In 2012 it moved to Laguépie, a small village 1 hour north-east of Toulouse. The association s various activities bring people to mingle, work, and live together. «Working together» is based on the philosophy that unites long term volunteers, employees in integration projects, permanent staff, and volunteers on international projects. NEIGE & MERVEILLES Neige & Merveilles became a mountainside hosting and entertainment community in Since 2007, Neige & Merveilles conducts actions in favour of sustainable development, renewable energy, development of mining heritage and local history, improved reception conditions, and development of entertainment and leisure practices combining heritage and respect for the environment. SEM&VOL SJ - NOUVELLE-AQUITAINE Since 2013, several cultural projects zere held in this region. Following a very positive hosting experience by the local population, a branch of Solidarités Jeunesses was created in Aquitaine in 2015 and then became a regional delegation in During summer, international workcamps about heritage and environment are organized. The goals of this new organization are : developing workcamps and international exchanges, creating a network of local partners, encouraging mobility and youth commitment, and developing artistic and cultural projects in this area. 6

7 VOLUNTEERING Volunteering is an exchange, an encounter, facilitated by someone who wants to offer his or her time, energy, and fresh perspective to a general interest project. Volunteering is also a welcoming community that offers a valuable opportunity for the volunteer to learn, to experiment, and to undergo personal development. Being a volunteer is not merely an activity, but a multifaceted process brought about by our partner associations before, during, and after the volunteer project is completed. At SJ, volunteering does not mean humanitarian aid, because we do not deal with emergency situations, but rather an intercultural exchange and apprenticeship carried out through meaningful initiatives for local communities. Voluntary service exists almost everywhere in the world and it is a commitment that varies across different countries, cultures, and types of projects. Volunteering brings together diverse communities and separate entities, local associations, men, women, youths, and local authorities. GENERAL INFORMATION Group Life Most of our workcamps bring together between 8 and 15 volunteers of around 5 different nationalities and with an average age of 20. The group is responsible for cooking and cleaning, so volunteers are asked to bring their favourite traditional recipes! Adult workcamps are open to volunteers of 18 years or older and there is usually no age limit unless a specific partner has requested one. Qualifications We do not ask that volunteers have any particular qualifications, but they must be motivated to help and open to experiencing life as a volunteer in a rural area along with people from diverse backgrounds. A basic knowledge of English and French is helpful. Camp Leaders There will be two camp leaders who will accompany the group as they organize aspects of daily life at the workcamp, such as managing the budget, cooking, recreational activities etc...the host community often provides a technical leader for specific manual tasks in order to guide volunteers in the methods and procedures of these tasks. Languages The language used by the group will be dependent on the group itself and on the capacities of each volunteer, but English and French are the most common languages of our projects. Accommodation Volunteers will be hosted in various types of accommodations, including but not limited to rooms provided by the local association, in tents, or in schools, depending on the project and the region. Insurance Solidarités Jeunesses provides insurance for accidents and civil liability (accidents caused by participants, damages that result from the conduct of the insured). This insurance doesn t cover sicknesses that may occur during the stay in the workcamp. Please inform your volunteers that they need to have their own insurance for travel and sickness. Leisure Time Solidarités Jeunesses considers workcamps as an environment for volunteers to experience community life. For this reason, volunteers organize their leisure time activities together in accordance with local conditions, group preferences, and financial resources (budget planning). Opportunities may vary between visiting tourist attractions in the region, discovering the surrounding environment, and organizing culture evenings with locals, etc... It is the responsibility of each volunteer to contribute to a positive and lively group dynamic! 7

Medical questionnaire and parental authorisation form have to be sent to SJ by scan at least 3 weeks before the camp starts. You need to bring original to the workcamp. Age Limit : years including one workcamp for year-old volunteers Working hours: 20 to 25 hours per week (morning) Afternoons are dedicated to cultural, informal education/ recreational activities 2 OPEN WORKCAMPS No participation fee SJ offers 2 on-going workcamps for the Summer. 11 ADULT WORKCAMPS SJ01 CHARANCE ORCHARDS 15/04-28/04 ENVI 12 vols 18+ Project: Do you wish to be immersed in deep nature and to participate in the development of fruit-growing heritage? Come and join us in discovering the orchards of Charance! The area of 220 hectares has been awarded with the price of «Outstanding Gardens» by the French Ministry of Culture. You will also discover the arboretum and the agricultural eco-museum. Launched in 1984 by the Botanical Conservatory of Gap-Charance, the orchards were abandoned in 2004 due to a lack of political and financial will. In 2016, the Alpine Society for the Protection of Nature, decided to take up the challenge of their rehabilitation. More than 4,000 trees and 1,500 varieties of apples and pears can be found there. Work: You will be in charge of «reviving» one of the many plots of orchards in the area. Fir, brambles and other offshoots have now invaded the entire plot. With the help of hand tools, you will clear and then take care of the trees which are without leaves or fruits. Accommodation and food: You will be accommodated in collective rooms, near Gap. With the help of the workcamp leaders, you will participate in the collective life (household, dishes...), as well as taking turns to prepare the meals using local products. Location: Gap Leisure activities: You will get to spend some time with the inhabitants of the city and you will have the opportunity to participate in local events, including a concert organized on the Charance area. During free time, you can discover the small villages around and enjoy the surrounding nature for hiking and sports activities. Also, it is possible to visit the touristy city of Gap, other visits to the region can be organized. Closest train station: Gap (05000). Closest airports: Marseille Provence and Lyon Saint Exupéry SJ02 LET S DISCOVER THE AIX ISLAND HERITAGE! 23/04-15/05 RENO-CULT 12 vols 18+ Project: The Aix Island (Île d Aix in French) is a small pedestrian island in the Atlantic Ocean. For several years, Île d Aix has hosted international workcamps as part of the restoration of Fort Liédot, in partnership with the Conservatoire du Littoral (the French coastal protection agency). Work: This year, you will work on the restoration of the large west stone shooting site, which faces the Liédot Fort. The work will consist in de-vegetating the site in order to start traditional masonry work on rubble walls. You will also have to replace the stones, to jut in and join with hydraulic lime. Accommodation and food: In collective rooms in a hosting centre near the Fort Liédot. Meals will be prepared by kitchen teams, in turns. Location : Île-d Aix, 20 km away from Rochefort-sur Mer. Leisure activities: You will be able to do many activities as visiting the tourist places around, enjoying nature, organizing dinners with the local inhabitants Closest train station: Rochefort (17300) Closest airport: Bordeaux 11

12 SJ03 AUBERG IN 1! 07/05-19/05 RENO 12 vols 18+ SJ57 AUBERG IN 2! 08/10-20/10 RENO 8 vols 18+ Project: In the majestic cliffs of the Hautes-Alpes region, the organization Les Villages des Jeunes manages, animates and renovates the Faï visitor centre since The farm of Faï is situated at 1000 meters above sea level. From April to December, the association organizes workshops for local people with social and professional difficulties. And the project welcomes young people experiencing family or school difficulties. In summer, Faï is also a place of place for professional artists whose come to take advantage to create together and throw festivals which take place in Faï: FestiFaï, Echos, The Singing Mountains... The workcamp that are organized in Faï contribute to make this site an original place where young people and adults, from many different countries and cultures, work and live together. We hope that you too, will come in this spirit of encounter and «doing together» that drives our project! Work: The hosting centre is composed of several buildings, including the «Auberg in» house. This project concerns the insulation of the interior walls of this building and more particularly, the dining room walls. You will be accompanied by the technical supervisor and will work together to decipher the old plaster and the current paintings. Then, you will smear the wall with the break of a natural earthen insulation. This workcamp will allow you to discover new techniques including those of traditional plaster and the use of eco-materials. Accommodation and food: You will be accommodated in small dormitories of 3 to 8 people in the hosting area of Faï and which will be shared with other volunteers of other workcamps. With the help of the leaders team, you will participate in the collective life: developing menus, preparing meals by maximizing the purchase of local products, washing the dishes, cleaning Location : La Ferme du Faï (3 km away from the village of Le Saix, 30 km away from Gap) Leisure activities: Located in a remarkable natural environment, the Fai is an ideal place to discover the pleasures of mountain hiking, swimming in the river and rural life with its peasant markets and producers. In the evening, you will be able to organize board games, screenings, international meals. Tourist trips to discover the surrounding towns and villages of the region will also be organized! Closest airports: Marseille Provence or Lyon Saint Exupéry SJ04 LE FORT DE L AIGUILLE 1 22/05-12/06 RENO-CULT 12 vols 18+ SJ08 LE FORT DE L AIGUILLE 2 15/06-06/07 RENO-CULT 12 vols 18+ Project: Located at the mouth of the Charente river, the peninsula of Fouras-les-Bains contains three harbours and five beaches along the Atlantic coast. In an idyllic setting with views of Fort Boyard, you will work on the rehabilitation of the Fort of the Aiguille. This fort is a redoubt, a fortification system built by the French military engineer Vauban. The redoubt protected Fouras from a potential enemy sea invasion. Work: This project is a continuation of the work undertaken last year by the volunteers. You will work on the restoration of a new part of the main facade of the redoubt. You will help the technical leader to remove plants from the facade, and to remove and replace the chalk mortar joints between the stones. Other works of traditional masonry are also planned, such as redoing the stone coping (top layer of the wall) and stone-cutting. Accommodation and food: In groups, in tents on Fouras campground *** (swimming pool, multi-sports area, WIFI, snacks ) Meals will be prepared by «kitchen teams» in turns. Location: Fouras-les-Bains, located 20 km away from La Rochelle Leisure activities: You will be able to visit some tourist areas around, enjoy nature and organize some dinners with the local inhabitants. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Île d Aix, a small car-free island in the middle of the ocean, by boat. Since it is also a popular sea-side resort, you will be able to participate to several events in the region. Closest train station: Rochefort (17300) Closest airport: Bordeaux 12

13 SJ05 HISTORICAL WANDERINGS IN CLAUSONNE ABBEY 1 28/05-07/06 RENO 12 vols 18+ SJ58 HISTORICAL WANDERINGS IN CLAUSONNE ABBEY 4 08/10-20/10 RENO 12 vols 18+ Project: Let s discover the Clausonne Abbey, a former hamlet situated at 1140 meters of altitude! You will take part to the valorization project of a place that is classified as a Historical Monument. Today, only the remnants of this 12th century building are found as the abbey was destroyed, burnt, rebuilt and finally used as a farm and school in the 19th century. Clausonne remains, however, a remarkable site, sharing the beauty of the wilderness that surrounds it: situated in the heart of a vast «circus» of mountains, the abbey became the route point for numerous hikers that visit the Haute vallée of Maraize. Thus, rather than letting the vegetation once again cover the ruins of Clausonne, 20 years ago, the inhabitants of Saix founded an association in order to highlight and maintain this site. Progressively, thanks to numerous international workcamps that have worked there, this place lives again and is currently open from April to October. Work: In 2018, the work will concern the accessibility of the site and its visibility for hikers. You will highlight the vestiges of the pit by clearing and securing existing walls. You will make a path in the abbey s vestige and will discover the technical creation of a pebble way. You will also participate in the preservation of the carved stone. Accommodation and food: In dorms you will share with 3 to 8 people at the Faï farm. You will share this place with other volunteers from others workcamps. You will take care of the collective life (preparation of menus and meals with local products, cleaning ) Location: Clausonne, 5km from the village of Saix, 30 km from Gap, 200 km from Marseille Leisure activities: Located in a remarkable natural environment, Clausonne is an exceptional place to discover the pleasures of mountain hiking and life in a rural area, with its local markets and producers. In the evenings, at the Ferme du Faï, you will be able to organise games, international meals and project movies. During the workcamp, touristy visits to discover the towns and villages of the region may also be organized. Closest train station: Veynes Dévoluy (05400). Access through the stations of Valence TGV, Valence ville, Grenoble or Marseille Saint Charles. Closest airports: Marseille Provence or Lyon Saint Exupéry SJ06 AN UNUSUAL DESTINATION 06/06-27/06 RENO 12 vols 18+ Project: Here live international and French volunteers who have chosen to give their time to participate in the realization of a dream: to build peace. Learning to live together and gathering different cultures is a challenge they have taken up. Some have chosen to stay for 6 months, others will stay in the village for 1 year. These volunteers will welcome you in their home for three weeks. You will be integrated into their daily lives and you will participate with them in renovation work and other activities. This workcamp is called «Unusual destination» because you will be immersed in the heart of French rural life. In 2017, a first group of international volunteers began to work in the village on the rehabilitation of a large stone wall at the bottom of the market hall that hosts weekly market and various events. Work: This year, you will be in charge of renovating the seals between the stones. You will be accompanied by a technical leader. On site, you will have the opportunity to meet the local people who will most certainly be delighted and pleasantly surprised by your initiative. You will create some activities and communicate about the organization s projects in the village. Accommodation and food: You will sleep in the House of Companions with long-term volunteers, in large dormitories. You will have to cook in teams in the collective kitchen. You will have access to the sanitary facilities (showers and toilets) of the house. Location: The picturesque village of Laguépie is located 100 km north-east of Toulouse, between Rodez and Montauban and near Albi. Leisure activities: You will choose with your group the activities that you wish to do. You will have the opportunity to enjoy local festivities (concerts, shows...) and have the opportunity to discover the natural and cultural heritage. You can enjoy swimming, walks, meetings with the local youth of Laguépie, organize pizza evenings near the bread oven, game parties, visit medieval villages such as Najac, Cordes-sur-Ciel, Saint-Antonin Noble Val... 14 SJ13 WATER IS LIFE! 10/06-30/06 ENVI 12 vols 18+ Project: Make a move to protect our environment! Be part of a global project for sustainable river management and conservation! The aims of this workcamp: to help prevent flooding and to protect the water and natural habitats. Saint Yorre is a small thermal town well known for its source of mineral water.this is the 5th time the inhabitants are hosting a workcamp and passionately sharing their history and culture with international volunteers. Work: You will work on different sections of the river at the heart of the village to manage the vegetation on the riverbanks and to remove litter. Every week, you will organize a gathering with the local inhabitants to report the progress of the project and to raise awareness of the impact of your work on the local ecosystem. Accommodation and food: You will stay in an old house which belongs to the local council and is located in the Larbaud park. The house is equipped with a kitchen and bathroom and you will share a room with other volunteers. Food will be provided and cooked by the group in turns. Location: Saint Yorre (Allier), 8km from Vichy Leisure activities: The activities during afternoons and weekends are organised collectively by the whole group. You will have the possibility to, for example, take a nice path along the river to walk to Vichy, a beautiful thermal city. You can also discover the hills around, or enjoy the festivities in local cities. Closest train station: Vichy (03200). We will pick you up at Vichy train station at 18h. Closest airports: Marseille Provence or Lyon Saint Exupéry SJ09 ON THE RIVER BANKS 16/06-07/07 ENVI 12 vols 18+ Project: The municipality of La Roche Chalais welcomes an international workcamp for the third year: after two projects about trails development in the village, this year, you will work on the trails that run between the town and the river Dronne. 14

Closest airport: Bordeaux Mérignac SJ10 VOLUNTEERING ON WHEELS 19/06-10/07 SOCI-CULT 12 vols 18+ Project: Saddle up: get on your bikes and get involved! A local governmental organization is setting up the Fête de l engagement - a day to honour voluntary involvement and active citizenship. This workcamp is created in relation to that event with the aim of showcasing volunteering in action by supporting local projects that are of interest to the general public. Work: You will move around the area by bike to work on several small projects such as helping to set up an event, giving a hand to local organizations or small scale reconstruction work. In doing so you will not only make local projects happen but also show what voluntary involvement can look like and give the locals the opportunity to get involved as well. The three week s work will lead towards the Fete de l engagement for which you will prepare interactive activities and show a creative report on the ways in which you got involved in the area. Accommodation and food: You will stay in different places, therefore, the accommodation can be in tents as well as in dormitories inside buildings. Food will be provided and you will all take turns in preparing the meals. Location: Different villages near Moulins-sur-Allier (03000) Leisure activities: The free time is organized collectively. You will be able to use the bikes provided to discover the area, go swimming, participate in local cultural events, it will depend on you! Special requirement: This workcamp is a very demanding project. Given that you will move from place to place, you will need to be motivated, flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances. Be aware that you will do long trips on bikes! Closest train station: Moulins-sur-Allier, we will pick you up at the train station at 18h Closest airport: Paris SJ11 GALLO-ROMAN SITE OF SANXAY 21/06-09/07 RENO/ARCH 12 vols 18+ Project: The Gallo-Roman site of Sanxay is one the major archaeological sites of the old province of Aquitaine. Tucked between the twist and turns of the Vonne Valley, this small village used to stretch over 25 hectares and was occupied from the 1st to the 5th century. Sanxay underwent an important development and monumental phase during the 11th century AD. The archaeological site of Sanxay is one of the best conserved ancient sites of France, and must remain so. In this regard, the Center of National Monuments asked our association to organize a workcamp there for the 3rd year in a row. 15

16 Work: This workcamp will give you the opportunity to learn the techniques of modern archaeological excavation, and to put them into practice by working on an old landyard of rubble dating back to the 19th century. The excavation will be significant because it will reveal important historical facts of the place, and it will allow us to learn how the first archaeological excavation were carried out. Therefore, the work will consist of doing an analysis of archaeology. Under the supervision of an archaeologist, you will have to remove all the grubble, clean the zone, and sort the stones. You will have to be very careful and meticulous during the clean-up, because you may find archaeological remains or objects. You will also be working with other local youth during the workcamp. Accommodation and food: In groups, in tents on the Sanxay campground (pool, river, multi-sport areas). Meals will be prepared in turns by «kitchen teams». Location: Sanxay, 30 km from Poitiers Leisure activities: You will be able to participate in the local summer events organized by the town. You will also have the opportunity to discover the region: le Marais Poitevin, La Rochelle, and Poitiers. You will also get to meet the local residents and share wonderful cultural exchange moments, as well as discover the historical and cultural heritage of the region (castles, abbeys, and a tree conservatory). Closest train station: Rouillé (86480) Closest airport: Bordeaux SJ14 REMAINS OF THE ABBATIAL CASTLE OF COLY 30/06-21/07 RENO 12 vols 18+ Project: Nested in a deep green valley, you can find the peaceful village of Coly, located in the heart of the Périgord Noir, a territory rich in history! The ruins of the abbatial castle, are a testimony of the rich heritage of the valley, conserving the beautiful architectural elements (bread oven, the vault room...) and even more secrets yet to be discovered. Work: After an initial workcamp of cleaning the old bakehouse, the town wishes this year to clean the old «recipe room». With the support of local volunteers, you will clear the site of rubble, earth and plants to find and strengthen the original elements (walls, doors, stairs...) With the old stone tiles, you will build dry stone walls for the layout of the site. You will work in the mornings. Physical work of excavation (shovels, picks, wheelbarrow) and careful work of excavation (trowels, brushes...) and consolidation. Accommodation and Food: You will be greeted at the local Stadium. You will sleep in tents and mattresses will be provided. A covered dining area is reserved for the group, with a kitchen where you can take turns preparing delicious meals. Location: Coly is in Black Périgord, 10 km from the Lascaux caves, between Périgueux and Brive. Leisure activities: Swimming, canoeing, site visits, local festivals... You will experience the welcome of the local population and the charming landscapes and their heritage, by organizing a program of activities alongside the leaders and the other volunteers. You will be able to take part in many summer events: gourmet markets, local festivals... SJ15 THE STONE HOUSE 01/07-14/07 RENO 12 vols 18+ Project: Take part in an enriching experience that will teach you new skills in a communal environment. You will make a valuable contribution to the larger scale project of development and restauration of one of the Maritime Alps heritage sites - the medieval silver mine of Vallauria. The construction of this storage workshop dates back to the mining period at the end of the 19th century. After its restoration, this building will be used for storing the materials and protective equipment necessary for visiting the mine. In addition, it will be used to house any material uncovered during archaeological digs and present the different minerals within and around the mine. Work: You will work on the building s exterior. Plastering and re pointing each of the building s facades using lime mortar. This workcamp involves 4 days of work per week, from 08:30 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:30. A technical leader will accompany you during your working day. 16

Leisure activities: You will discover the regional mountainous environment and sporting activities: hiking/ guided tour in the Vallée des Merveilles in the Mercantour National Park, swimming in the Bendola river, visiting local villages (Tende, La Brigue, Saorge), trying the Via Feratta and in the evenings, enjoying dance, photo-video sessions, stargazing, board games, barbecue, international meals. One day per week in addition to the weekend will be dedicated to activities outside of the work camp. Specific requirements: Possibility of working on scaffolding; low height. Closest train station: Tende (06430) Closest airport: Nice SJ16 A FISTUL OF LIME 01/07-14/07 RENO 12 vols 18+ Project: You will participate in the construction of a welcome centre and exhibition space that will benefit the association s educational events, and will offer a new cultural element to our current program which includes a centre of documentation for past historical and archaeological work, conferences, educational content for children and teenagers, scientific publications concerning geological and mining heritage. Work: You will restore this building s façades using lime mortar. The work will include removing outer layers of plaster, recovering the boards of the framework, reworking the plaster joints, using mortar to repair the stonework wall and brushing the mortar joints. This work camp involves 4 days of work per week, from 08:30 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:30. A technical supervisor will accompany you during your working day. SJ18 THE RIVER OF VALOJOULX 07/07-28/07 ENVI 12 vols 18+ Project: Nature and environmental lovers, welcome to Valojoulx! This small village is located in the heart of the Vallée de l Homme, rich in many prehistoric sites. The town is a haven of peace, dynamic and friendly population. Work: You will work on the Turançon stream, which passes through the middle of the village: with the advice of a professional technician and the help of local volunteers, you will participate in the maintenance of the banks: size of the plants, strengthening of the banks, removal of dead wood... Intervention with hand tools is preferred: pruning shears, saws, cutting branches... to preserve this fragile environment. You will work in the mornings. Accommodation and food: You will be welcomed in the village hall. Mattresses will be provided, showers and toilets will be available. As well as a kitchen where you can take turns preparing delicious meals. Location: Valojoulx is located in the south-west of the Dordogne, 35 km from Périgueux Leisure activities: Swimming, canoeing, site visits, local festivals... You will be welcomed by the local population and the charm of the landscapes and their heritage through activities. Along with the leaders and the other volunteers you can plan a program of activities (walks, swimming, canoeing on the Vézère), and take in many summer events: gourmet markets, festival of world dances... SJ19 SHARING UNDER PAVING 07/07-28/07 RENO 12 vols 18+ Project: We propose you to live an experience where you can mix cooperation and solidarity. In Esprels, hosting a workcamp has become the event that every inhabitant looks forward to. Work: You are going to continue the renovation of Street Saint Desle s gutter, which began in In a multicultural and heterogeneous group, you will learn how to work in a team. You will also learn both, masonry and the proper way to cut stones. Although the workcamp doesn t require any specific competence, the work will be a bit physical and subject to the local weather. Accommodation and food: You re going to be located at the centre of the village, in the town hall. You will sleep in a common room with camp beds, so remember to bring your sleeping bag and a pillow. A kitchen will be arranged near the school. You will be encouraged to participate in the collective life. Therefore, you will be in charge of the kitchen and the stewardship from time to time. Food will be taken care of. You will take showers in the villagers houses, prompting another occasion for exchange and sharing. 18 Location: Esprels is a small village in the rural area of Haute Saône. It s 20 km from Vesoul and 50 km from Besançon. Leisure activities: With the help of the villagers, you re going to have the possibility to discover touristic places in the region: among them the historic citadelle in Besançon and the chapel of Ronchamp. But it will also be on you, the volunteers, to propose activities. The villagers are very engaged in the life of the workcamp. They will invite you for dinner, an aperitif, or a coffee. You will have the opportunity to build strong bonds with the locals, and feel like you re a part of

Closest airport: Bâle-Mulhouse SJ20 A NEW SHELTER FOR THE EDUCATIONAL FARM 08/07-27/07 CONS/ENV 15 vols 18+ Project: The town of Ferté Alais has a pedagogical farm which is open all year long to the local population. In july the farm organises many activities for the local youth. The farm would like to build a wood shelter in order to display some old farming machines, and to create using recycled materials more outside furniture to be able to host more people in a comfortable way. The town has had many experiences hosting international workcamps in the past. They are inviting international volunteers this summer in order to build the shelter and the furniture and connect with the local youth. Work: As a volunteer in this camp, first you will build the wood shelter with the support of a technical leader. Then, you will discover how to build outside furniture using recycled material, like wood palettes. Once you have learned these techniques, along with local people, you will build furniture for the pedagogical farm. Through these different works, you will practice different woodwork techniques. Accommodation and food: You will sleep in tents, in the town s former campsite, which is now used by our association to host people. Please bring a sleeping bag with you. The campsite has bathrooms and showers, as well as a kitchen space. Food will be provided and the volunteers will take turns to cook the meals. Location: La Ferté Alais is approximately 50km south of Paris, in the Essonne region. Leisure activities: Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet the local population and to explore the surroundings of the town. La Ferté Alais is located in a regional natural park called Gâtinais. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy the events taking place in the local community such as concerts or canoeing. Volunteers will be able to organize their own collective activities depending on their wishes and the available budget. Closest train station: La Ferté Alais RER station. Closest airports: Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly and Paris Beauvais. Note: This project should not be seen as a sightseeing trip to Paris. If you wish to visit Paris, you should arrive a couple days earlier or stay a couple of days after the dates of the summer camp. SJ21 THE SOUTHERN ALPS THROUGH HIKING TRAILS 09/07-21/07 ENVI 12 vols 18+ Project: This workcamp is an occasion for a true immersion in nature during the day : it will allow you to discover the beautiful Hautes-Alpes countryside, its fauna and its flora and for some time to exchange with the local inhabitants in the evenings. This trail will take you to a huge valley at the foot of rocky heights: a paradise for wildlife and hikers. Located in the extreme south of the Hautes Alpes department, between 480 and 2700 m above sea level, the Pays du Buëch offer snowy peaks in the north, orchards and lavender fields in the south, all under a Provençal sun. L espace Randonnée (Hiking area) of the Pays du Buech brings together five communities of communes in the Hautes-Alpes around a common objective : develop, invigorate and promote non-motorised hiking activities (pedestrian, bike tourism, VTT and horse riding), for the purposes of tourism and local development. Due to the extensive maintenance work required every year over the 1000 kilometres of trails, since 2010 l espace Randonnée organises many international volunteer workcamps. Work: This workcamp will aim to clear the trails that have been invaded by vegetation, cutting down some trees, pruning, and marking trails called «The She-Wolf Pace» and «Amber». Accommodation and food: You will be staying in tents at Les Barillons campsite, located only a 10 minute walk from the village of Serres. This campsite is a quiet and friendly place where you can enjoy the sun and shaded areas. You will have access to the toilets and hot showers, barbecues, library and board games. With the help of the leaders team you will organise the menus and prepare them together using local products.
