BERTINORO, Romagna (Italy) In the foothills between Forlì and Cesena stands on the top of a hill Bertinoro with its ancient walls, towers and dwellings. On the first Sunday of September takes place the Festival of Hospitality dedicated to Romagna s traditional hospitality whose emblem, the Column of Anella, is also the town s official symbol. The structure of this typical medieval village has remained almost intact and people can stroll through narrow cobbled streets huddling in paths near the ancient defensive walls to the Fortress (X sec.) overlooking the village. Today it houses the Inter-faith Museum, which compares and studies the three monotheistic religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism. In the Fortress is also placed the University Residential Centre of Bertinoro (Ce.U.B.) that is active since 1994 in the field of vocational training, conferences, congresses and lectures. The wide and extraordinary view that extends from the sea to the surrounding green hills, makes Bertinoro the Balcony of Romagna.
From December to March occurs the event Wine Afternoons (I pomeriggi del Bicchiere) proposing cultural events aimed to discover Romagna's tradition and its wine and food culture. The first week end of June take place the "Historic Reserve of Sangiovese Wine" and "Wine and Flavors on the route" to celebrate the culture of wine and gastronomic traditions. During these events the public has the opportunity to discover or rediscover the typical products of Romagna and the POD wines such as Sangiovese, Albana, Pagadebit. Not so far from Bertinoro, in Fratta Terme, tourists can find the Grand Hotel with a modern and welcoming spa that uses seven springs rich in precious minerals, known since Roman times for their beneficial effects. In a wonderful park there is also the Indiana Park where people can have fun along the amusing trails in suspension between the trees.
BORGHI, Romagna (Italy) On the scenic ridge between the rivers Uso and Rubicon, Borghi is a small medieval village surrounded by sturdy walls of the fifteenth century. At the centre of the ancient village lies the Church of the Holy Cross, while at the bottom of castle street stands the charming eighteenthcentury Loggia. Tradition says that here was born one of the most characteristic and ancient cakes of Romagna: the Bustrengo, a sweet delicacy made with chestnut flour, raisins and pine nuts. Do not miss the hamlet of San Giovanni in Galilea, an extraordinary natural balcony over the plains and towering castles of Montebello, Torriana, Verucchio and San Marino. Here people can visit the Museum Renzi with its rich and precious archaeological collections (early history, Roman and medieval) and cultural memorabilia of the territory.

CESENATICO, Romagna (Italy) Cesenatico is one of the most important cities of the Adriatic Riviera and it is known for its welcoming beaches and the harbour Porto Canale, which was designed by Leonardo da Vinci on behalf of Cesare Borgia. Along the Porto Canale there are a lot of monuments and places of interest: the square Pisacane with the monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi, the fish market, the charming Piazza delle Conserve (wells for the conservation of fish and foodstuffs). Along the harbour there is the Floating Section of the Maritime Museum, with the mooring of ten traditional boats that are characterised by colourful lugsails marked by the fishermen s families emblems as heraldic seafaring. The Ground Section of the Maritime Museum offers a large attractive itinerary between artifacts, films of the period and educational installations dedicated to the seafaring tradition of the middle Adriatic. Here the memories of traditions related to the sea and history are still alive. Actually every year on the first weekend of August takes place, by night, the Cuccagna's raffle on the waters of Porto Canale,
remembering when Giuseppe Garibaldi with Anita and other patriots embarked on some fishing boats in an attempt to reach Venice. Other important traditional events are the "Marina nativity scene, set up on the traditional boats of the Maritime Museum held every year from early December to 6 January; in autumn "The fish festival (Il pesce fa festa) a weekend dedicated to bluefish; the Nine Hills (Nove Colli) in May, the Gran Fondo cycling race with the highest number of subscribers in Europe, which celebrates the 45th edition in 2015.
CIVITELLA DI ROMAGNA, Romagna (Italy) Civitella is the municipality that has the greatest number of ruins of fortresses and castles in Romagna due to the bloom, towards the VIII-IX century, of the castra (fortified castles surrounded by walls) throughout all the Romagna Apennines. Along the valley there are Civitella and Cusercoli the two main centres connected by the ancient Romipeta of pilgrims, today called Germanic Via Romea. The center of Civitella is characterised by the presence of a charming fortified village that still retains the medieval urban structure on a cliff, said Castle. The remains of the ancient fortress (XII sec.) are surmounted by the Clock Tower, rebuilt in neo-gothic style. The town is known for its production of cherries, fruit to whom is dedicated in June a large exhibition market. Cusercoli (Castrum Clusercoli) is a picturesque village which stands on a rocky outcrop dominated by the majestic medieval castle and by the church of San Bonifacio. In Cusercoli take place every year in May the St. George's mushroom Festival, and in November the White Truffle of Bidente Valley Festival.

DOVADOLA, Romagna (Italy) The symbol of Dovadola is the ancient fortress of the Counts Guidi (the "Roccaccia", XII sec.) that stands above the town and control access to the two fords on the river Montone. The fortess, equipped with a tower, is a fine example of medieval architecture. Nowadays Dovadola has still the features of an ancient Florentine village with an orthogonal topography. The town is famous especially for the production of white truffle of Romagna (Tuber magnatum) to which is dedicated in October an ad hoc festival. The city celebrates this tasty treasure with the prize "Golden Truffle gained by the discoverer of the larger tuber. In the Abbey of St. Andrew, 1 km from the centre, is celebrated Benedetta Bianchi Porro, whose process of beatification is under way. In 1221 St. Anthony of Padua stayed for many months at the Hermitage of Montepaolo Sanctuary, where there is a relic of the saint. Montepaolo is also the initial stage of the Way of Assisi (the footsteps of St. Francis and St. Anthony) an extraordinary rural path for modern
pilgrims.
GATTEO A MARE, Romagna (Italy) Founded in the Middle Ages as a small harbour, Gatteo a Mare is an important tourist village of Adriatic Riviera. From June to September visitors can spend a happy and relaxing holiday; nice and modern sandy beaches are ideal for those who love to bask in the sun and for children, who can play safely on the shoreline. There are many recreational opportunities for youth and seniors, all in the name of true friendliness of the people of Romagna. In hotel, apartment or camping every choice is valid for spending the summer in the hometown of the musician Secondo Casadei, where you can listen and dance the best "Liscio Romagnolo". From spring to autumn there are many musical events not to be missed. The famous "Romagna Mia", was born right here; at the beginning and end of the good season, two weeks are devoted to Ballroom dance with the best orchestras of folk music. Moreover the Week of Micizia", dedicated not only to all cat lovers, offers a unique opportunity to admire works dedicated to the felines, children's entertainment and original contests on the beach.

LONGIANO, Romagna (Italy) The centre of Longiano, on the hills between Cesena and Savignano, has become an important cultural centre thanks to the fervor and liveliness in promoting the tourism initiatives. Upon entering the city there is the nineteenth-century Petrella s Theatre with its picturesque square which plays a popular activity in various sectors of the show and the impressive Shrine of the Holy Cross (XVIII sec.). A maze of alleys and small stairs leads to the top of the hill where stands, majestic and solemn, the Malatesta Castle (XI century). Here is located the Foundation Tito Balestra Onlus, with its rich collection of works of figurative art of the 2nd part of Italian Novecento). Longiano houses two important museums: the Italian Museum of Cast Iron, inside the eighteenth-century church of Santa
Maria of Tears and the Museum of the Territory, showcase of what was the daily life of Romagna from '600 to date. Among the various events hosted each year in Longiano we remember the most popular ones: Nativity scene festival, the biennial International Festival of Mechanical Music at the end of September and on the second Saturday of July Wines and Tastes on the Route a magical evening on the spectacular square of the Malatesta Castle, dedicated to traditional wine and foods of Romagna..
MODIGLIANA, Romagna (Italy) Modigliana is a pretty city located at the confluence of three rivers in the middle of Tramazzo Valley, surrounded by green hills and dominated by the ruins of the Guidi s Fortress (XII-XIII century). It is a typical example of towns of the Tuscan Romagna presenting Florentine urban and architectural features. Just outside the centre lies the Convent of the Capuchin that houses the Accademia degli Incamminati which aims to promote and disseminate the humanistic and scientific knowledges in the framework of unity and universality of culture. Modigliana is the birthplace of the famous Macchiaiolo painter Silvestro Lega, whose works are partially collected in the City Art Gallery. Lega s paintings are also celebrated with the evocative Nineteenth-century Feasts when all the citizens of Modigliana wear ancient dresses and give life to true Tableaux Vivants inspired by his works of art. The town hosts the Museum Don Giovanni Verità, located in the native house of the priest and dedicated to this important "Carbonaro" and patriot, who saved the General Giuseppe Garibaldi
chased by the Austrians. The hills of the area of Modigliana are also famous for the large production of kiwis and for the quality of Sangiovese wine.
RONCOFREDDO, Romagna (Italy) The prime moment of Roncofreddo s territory coincided with Malatesta s domination during the thirteenth century. Thanks to its geographical position, on hills with a large views that goes from the surrounding mountain to the sea, Roncofreddo and almost all the neighboring villages have had during the Malatesta period a mighty castle or fortress. The urban center of Roncofreddo is surrounded by an incredible wild natural landscape, where nature overflows in the valleys and the gorges are crossed by streams and brooks. In the historic centre, partially destroyed by bombing in World War II, there is the Civic Tower built in 1700 on an ancient gate; around it unfold homes of Sixteenth Century which form picturesque view.
In tribute to its most famous product, the extra virgin olive oil, Roncofreddo organizes Selecta, an appointment with tastings, competitions and awards related to the best oils of the region. Interesting the small Museum of the Rubicon's Front 1944 : the area between the Rubicon River and Rimini was for many months the front of the Gothic Line between the Allies and the Germans in retreat. In immediate proximity of Roncofreddo lies Sorrivoli Castle (not to be missed in August the Festival of puppets) and the charming village of Monteleone where Lord Byron lived for a while.
SAN MAURO PASCOLI, Romagna (Italy) The town of San Mauro Pascoli is known for the high quality shoe manufacturing and for being the hometown of the great poet Giovanni Pascoli. In the beautiful countryside lies the majestic Villa Torlonia, called the Tower, nowadays location of cultural events, in which the poet lived his youth and whose atmospheres have inspired his most famous poems. At 7 kilometers from the city there is the town of San Mauro Mare, a quiet seaside resort which offers the perfect setting for relaxing holidays, particularly suitable for families with children. The site, built in the early postwar years, boasts now modern facilities (hotels, campsites, flats) along with a comprehensive system of services, green areas and sports equipment. With its 700 meters of sandy beach gently sloping towards the sea, it also guarantees to younger guests a stay in complete joy and security.

FORLÌ, Romagna (Italy) If an irresistible scent of flat bread wafting through the air between the medieval abbey, a Renaissance palace and a beautiful baroque church, then there is no doubt that we are in Forlì. The central Saffi Square is a great point to sum up the history of Forli and to admire the nineteenth-century's Town Hall, the Podesta Palace in Gothic style, the elegant Albertini's Palace built between the end of XV and the beginning of XVI century, the eighteenthcentury Ex Credito Romagnolo Palace and the Post Office building ( ). The most interesting monument is the Basilica of San Mercuriale, in Romanesque style, built in the twelfth century on the remains of a paleochristian church: inside between different fine art works there are some paintings of Palmezzano. On Ordelaffi s Square overlook Paolucci Piazza s Palace (XVII sec.) and the nineteenth-century Cathedral of Santa Croce in neoclassical style. In the nearby Via Albicini is placed the recently restored Romagnoli Palace, which houses the Civic Collections of the twentieth century, including the prestigious Collection Vernocchi. This collection was
exhibited for the first time at the Venice Biennale in 1950 and houses works by Giorgio De Chirico, Renato Guttuso, Felice Casorati and Carlo Carrà. Very interesting is the itinerary through the city, linked to rationalist architecture, investigated by the transnational project ATRIUM: one above all monuments, the Aeronautical School building flanked by a huge statue of Icarus. In the beautiful museum of San Domenico is placed the Civic Art Gallery which houses the famous statue of '"Hebe" by Antonio Canova and it will host, until June 14, the exhibition dedicated to the great painter Giovanni Boldini Boldini: the show of modernity.
CESENA, Romagna (Italy) Where the plain meets the hill, here it is Cesena, the city of the Malatesta enclosed by city walls built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. It is a vibrant and culturally dynamic city. There are in fact many events that enliven the historical centre during the year: Cesena in Fiera, at the end of June, linked to the feast of St. John, Cesena at the Table and the International Street Food Festival during fall time. The Malatesta Library is the jewel of the city, recognized as a UNESCO monument for its beauty and antiquity. In Popolo s Square lies the beautiful fountain in Istrian stone designed by Francesco Masini and the Albornoz Palace, nowadays the Town Hall. On the Hill Garampo stands the Malatesta Fortress, one of the most impressive and best preserved fortresses in Romagna, while on the hill Spaziano stands the Abbazia del Monte, which preserves
a valuable collection of votive offerings. Not to miss the Bonci Theatre, a beautiful nineteenth-century theatre that boasts world-class acoustics and offers quality dramas. Important is the work of the Cinema Centre - City of Cesena, specialized in stage photography. Just outside the historical centre is located Villa Silvia Carducci that houses the Museum of Musicalia which collects mechanical music instruments and barrel organs. Inside it is still preserved intact the room where the poet Giosuè Carducci spent his last summers.
CASTROCARO TERME E TERRA DEL SOLE, Romagna (Italy) Castrocaro Terme was the historical capital of Tuscany's Romagna and today it is known as a spa town. It preserves an extraordinary historical and architectural heritage due to the important role played by the city since the Middle Ages. The Baths of Castrocaro are renowned since the mid-800 for water rich with minerals, for the natural mud and the sulphurous waters. Nowadays the baths offer besides the traditional spa treatments (mud therapy, hydrotherapy, inhalation, gynaecological care and drinking cures, care of deafness and venous and lymphatic diseases) also an advanced centre for rehabilitation and thermal Hydrokinesitherapy. After five centuries of oblivion, It is possible to visit the town's majestic medieval fortress through fascinating paths that lead both to ramparts and to ancient halls. Castrocaro links its history also to Terra del Sole, the fortified ideal city that preserves its Renaissance structure, as well as wished by Cosimo de 'Medici, the first Grand Duke of Tuscany. During the Palio of S. Reparata (first Sunday of September) takes place a challenge of shooting with crossbow between two districts. The Praetorian Palace, nowadays Museum of Man and Environment, was once the residence of the Commissioner General and the seat of the civil and criminal court with its prisons.

FORLIMPOPOLI, Romagna (Italy) Ancient city founded by the Romans on the Via Emilia (Forum Popilii), today Forlimpopoli is known for being the birthplace of Pellegrino Artusi ( ), the most famous gastronome and master of Italian cuisine, to whom is dedicated each year in June, the gastronomic event of Festa Artusiana. To Pellegrino is entitled Casa Artusi, located in the historic town centre, the innovative centre of gastronomic culture dedicated to Italian home cooking that offers a complete tour linked to food through a library, a restaurant, the cooking school and the events space. The centre is open to all food lovers who want to deepen the culture and practice of Italian home cooking. Inside the majestic Rocca it is worth a visit the Civic Archaeological Museum, which preserves precious relics from Roman times.

SAVIGNANO SUL RUBICONE, Romagna (Italy) Savignano sul Rubicone is a small town on the Via Emilia, the historical Roman Consular Road. Savignano is known because on the January 10, 49 B.C., Julius Caesar, shouting Alea iacta est, crossed the Rubicon river and changed the history of Rome. The Bridge on the river (second century B.C.), topped by a large statue of Caesar, may be the ideal start of a journey to discover the centuries of history that coexist in this territory. Also called the "Athens of Romagna", Savignano boasts a large group of academics, writers and archaeologists and every year dedicates a special space to photographic art with the exhibition "SiFest". The Filopatridi's Academy is one of the oldest and most prestigious academies of studies of Romagna and preserves a precious core of about 2,000 engravings. Not far from the centre is located the Archaeological Museum of the Task, with valuable finds and evidence of Roman and primeval history.
