5 Central Vietnam Beach Break and Northern Vietnam October 2015 This is the post AGA tour, and 42 interliners departed Saigon for a flight to Danang. On arrival we were greeted by our guide and transferred to the spectacular Vinepearl resort, located on the lovely Non Nuoc beach, voted one of the six most beautiful beaches on the planet, (Forbes Magazine). A great lunch buffet at the hotel was followed by a free afternoon to relax and enjoy the luxurious surroundings, the pools and the beautiful white sand beach. many of its finest buildings were destroyed during the war. Restoration is still ongoing. Next a tour of the royal tomb of Emperor Minh Mang, a delightfully peaceful experience through a great sprawling complex of temples, pavilions, moats, walls, gates, museums in a natural setting surrounded by forest. Definitely worth a visit. The drive back to Danang took us through a new road tunnel, 6 km long, under the coastal mountains. Day 4 Our next day was free to explore Hoi An in more depth, or just relax and enjoy the lovely beach and resort. A small group of us choose the "Fish and Chip tour " for a look at the local way of life. We got fitted with bicycles and headed off on a 7km ride along the river in Hoi An, through rice fields to arrive at a water coconut palm grove. We boarded a boat with our bikes, then transferred to a small bamboo basket boat to row through the grove. With the help of Day 2 was free to explore or shop in Hoi An, recognized as a world heritage site by UNESO. The Ancient Town is an exceptionally, well-preserved example of a southeast trading port dating from 15th to 19th century. We enjoyed strolling the narrow laneways, exploring the architecture of the old town, the historic temples, pagodas and for some, staying up for the full-moon lantern festival, all made for a wonderful day. For some, shopping for tailor-made local fishermen, we attempted to catch some small clothes was another memorable highlight of our visit to crabs hiding in the roots of the palms. We explored a large cave with the sunlight streaming down through cracks above, making an erie site. Other small grottoes with Hindu and Buddhist sanctuaries were explored as well. An afternoon flight to Hanoi for the northern extension tour of Vietnam. Some of our friends had to leave for home and 31 of us carried on. Our guide met us at the airport and transported us to a lovely restaurant for dinner, followed by check-in at the La Belle Vie hotel. Rather plain after the luxurious resort in Danang.

6 Day 6 The day began with a 240km drive (4Hours) from Hanoi to Halong Bay, considered to be Vietnam's greatest natural wonder. Upon arrival, a short transfer on a tender and we board our home for one night, the Indochina Sails junk. A truly wow moment when we set off to explore the bay with over 2000 islands in the Gulf of Tonkin. Settling into bright and cheery cabins, enjoying a multi-course lunch in the lovely dining room, or up on the spacious deck viewing the sites, filled the afternoon as we cruised along. Next, a visit to a local fishing village by rowboat (bamboo sampans), operated by local villagers, returning to our ship by a beautiful sunset and dinner on board. We ended our tour of Hanoi on a happy note with a visit to Thang Long Theatre to enjoy a traditional water puppet show. Most unique. Our last night's gala dinner was at the Pots Pots and Pans restaurant, with a delicious multi-course meal. Day 9 An early rise and time to say good by to new friends and old, as we headed in different directions after a fantastically memorable visit to Vietnam! Day 7 For the early riser a wonderful sunrise appeared over the many islands in the bay and simultaneously a Tai Chi class was well-attended on the upper deck. A short cruise to Titov island where we disembarked for a hike 420 steps to the pavillion at the top and a panoramic view over the water. Still time for a short swim at the island's beach before our visit to Halong Bay came to an early end. Wonderful but too short of a visit. On the way back to Hanoi a stop at the pearl factory. Fred Buchi Day 8 Our day started with a rickshaw ride through the old quarter of Hanoi, followed by a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and former residence and gardens. After lunch at Koto restaurant (KOTO Foundation, extending from Australia to Vietnam, cares for the disadvantaged and underprivileged youth in Vietnam.) we toured the Hao Lo prison also known as the Hanoi Hilton, which was used to imprison the American POW's (Pilots) during the Vietnam War.
