2 LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Greetings Members and Friends, I enter my second term as Miami Ski Club President very proud of what we accomplished my first year as President and very excited for the future of the Club. I recently attended the Spring Florida Ski Council meetings in Central Florida and the Miami Ski Club was the envy of the other FSC ski clubs. Members from affiliated FSC clubs wondered how the MSC was increasing membership and had such a strong online presence with online processing for events and trips. Most other clubs in the FSC are experiencing declining membership and are still trying to understand how to offer trips and events for online payments. The Miami Ski Club continues to improve how we do business to better serve our membership. I have a supportive Executive Committee, Board of Directors and loyal membership to thank for such a successful first year. Moving forward into my second year, the improvements planned will further strengthen the foundation of the MSC to encourage continued growth in membership for years to come. Some of the proposed changes include further enhancements to the MSC Web site and online members portal and a long overdue revision to the MSC Bylaws. Of course, more exciting trips are on the calendar for 2014 after an extremely successful 2013 ski trip season. Please support the Miami Ski Club by signing up for our group trips and attending local events. Dedicated volunteers on our Board of Directors and at local events are always welcome and required to keep the MSC growing. I look forward to your continued support of a very special club. David Hartman President SUMMERFEST 2013 Ski Trip Opening Event August 11, 2013 Sunday 12:00 p.m. Coral Gables Country Club 997 North Greenway Drive Coral Gables, Summerfest 2013 is your first opportunity to sign up for the 2014 ski trips, enjoy a delicious buffet, meet new people and enjoy the company of your ski club friends. Bring your checkbook to put a deposit on our wonderful ski trips. The event is FREE to members and guest fee is $ If a guest signs up for MSC membership at Summerfest, the guest fee will be deducted from the membership dues. The party is indoors and there is FREE parking at the North entrance from Greenway Drive. Lunch will be served at 1:00pm till 3:00pm and dress is casual. The buffet will consist of hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, potato salad, cole slaw, mixed greens and condiments. For dessert, there will be fruit salad, cookies and brownies with iced tea or water. There will be a cash bar open throughout the event. We only have 3 spaces left. A female roommate is also needed. The Ultimate Summer Ski Adventure is waiting for you in Argentina. Start your trip in exotic Buenos Aires in the 5 star Loi Suites located in the famous Recoleta district. After a complimentary hot breakfast at the Loi, spend the day shopping for fine leather goods, stroll the Recoleta and dine in one of the numerous excellent restaurants. Saturday, we will depart to Las Lenas where we will stay at the luxurious HOTEL ESCORPIO located at the base of the mountain, where the lifts are literally right outside your door. All breakfasts and dinners are included. LAS LENAS is advertised as the largest ski area in South America, comparable to Vail and Snowbird combined and an annual estimated snowfall of over 250 inches. Twelve lifts cover more than 32 miles of trails which are 5% green, 30% blue, 25% black, and 40% double black. After a week of skiing, return to the Loi for two more days and nights and enjoy the shopping and nightlife that only Buenos Aires can offer. Hawks Cay Townhomes Marathon, Florida We are finalizing our plans for a Keys Getaway Weekend! More details will follow soon but the date is set. We will be staying in townhomes with full kitchens in beautiful Hawks Cay Resort near Marathon. This casual Keys weekend will also include a one of a kind dinner, and welcome cocktail party. To renew your membership online and you have an active profile in the member s portal, just login into your profile and click on the Pay Membership Dues button, accept the MSC terms and condition and then select your payment type. There are no merchant fees incurred for paying membership dues online by credit card. 4 MIAMI SKI CLUB 2014 SKI TRIPS All Miami Ski Club ski trips are priced per person, double occupancy, unless otherwise specified. Base price includes (except where noted) airfare, ground transportation, lodging and taxes, a pre-trip and post- trip party and minimum one dining event at the resort. Initial trip deposits are $750, unless specified otherwise. View fine print on your trip flyer and trip application for more detail for each trip. Please note that the airlines may impose additional taxes or fuel surcharges and local taxing authorities may increase existing taxes, which would be passed on to the trip participants. Airlines recently instituted baggage fees which are the responsibility of the trip participant. We highly recommend you purchase travel insurance. Snowmass, combined with the nearby Buttermilk, Aspen Mountain, and Aspen Highlands mountains, contains a total of 5505 acres with 42 lifts serving over 340 trails all accessible on your lift ticket. Snowmassive, as it is often called, has more ski terrain than the other three mountains combined and features a Nastar race course. Our accommodations are slope-side at the Stonebridge Inn, featuring mountain view rooms with refrigerators, coffee makers, Wi-Fi, and include a hot breakfast buffet daily. We also have a few condos in the Terracehouse, with access to all amenities at Stonebridge, with breakfast included. 6 FLORIDA KEYS REEF SNORKEL & DIVE TRIP followed by Lunch at Pilot House Saturday July 20, 2013 check in 7:30am Boat departs promptly at 8:00am Keys Diver II Dive Boat, Pilot House Marina 5 Seagate Blvd Key Largo, FL Join the Miami Ski Club for a morning of snorkeling and diving in the National Marine Sanctuary in the Upper Keys. Our private charter includes two stops on some of the nicest reefs in the Keys. Our first stop is scheduled to be Molasses Reef, one of the newest and pristine reefs in the Marine Sanctuary. Our scheduled second stop is Pickles Reef, home to a unique ocean facing ledge that attracts walls of reef fish. During our dives your may see Goliath Groupers, Nurse Sharks, Moray Eels, Turtles, Stingrays, Spotted Eagle Rays and the colorful Coral Formations of the Upper Keys. Both dive locations are in feet of water and are for divers and snorkelers of all ability levels. Miami Ski Club discounted charter price of $75.00 per member for divers ($80.00 non-member) and $40.00 for snorkelers (includes gear and sales tax) ($45.00 non-members). Dive charter price include tanks, weights and 7.5% FL sales tax. SCUBA rental gear is an extra charge. MSC Members can sign up and pay by credit card online within your member profile. (No transaction fees are charged for credit card payments on MSC events). Credit cards will not be accepted on the morning of the event and early signups are recommended. SCUBA divers please bring your dive agency certification card. Plan to stay after the boat charter and join other MSC members and friends for lunch at Pilot House Waterfront Restaurant just down the dock from the dive boat in Pilot House Marina in Key Largo. Lunch is not included in the charter price for the boat.
