We had a wonderful year of travel to great places in Iowa, Nashville and Canada. Many memories to cherish! Now it's time to make plans for a new year of fun and fellowship with your choice of activities ACTIVITIES Take a look at the activities for the new year on the cover page and on pages 4 and 5. Iowa has so many treasures tucked away in rural areas and small towns. It's fun to explore them while we are amazed that we didn't know about them or had never been there before. Alaska, the last frontier, has been a very popular destination. When we grew close to our 40 traveler limit, we were able to secure more seats for this May tour. Room for you and your friends! San Antonio in its holiday splendor will be waiting for us right after Thanksgiving. As always, I'll save a day for a one-day Christmas tour too. PAST TRIP UPDATES: Amish Trip, 2017: Ike Boettjer, right tackle for the Hawkeyes and son of Kris Boettjer, owner of Barn Happy restaurant in Cedar Falls, is still recuperating from his season-ending injury and was not able to play in the bowl game. Mississippi River tour, 2016: Remember the scary car bridge crossing from Sabula, Iowa to Savanna, IL? The new replacement bridge opened this fall. The old 1932 bridge was so narrow that semis had to fold in their mirrors to pass. It was just 20 feet wide with no shoulders. The new bridge is twice as wide and much safer. Canadian Rockies tour, 2017: A Sierra Club's 1928 annual outing to the Canadian Rockies was Ansel Adams' first trip as official photographer. He wrote to his wife: "These Mountains are breathtaking - utterly different than anything we have seen...these are the great mountains we dream about." Those who went on this trip can heartily agree! NASHVILLE COUNTRY CHRISTMAS NOV 16 20, 2017 We filled our days with all the best that Nashville has to offer: Grand Ole Opry House show, Ryman Auditorium back stage tour and radio show, ICE attraction, RCA Studio B tour and the events shown here. We experienced the city where country music lives on and thrives! Above: We posed outside the Country Music Hall of Fame and then inside we saw behind-the-stage film scenes, costumes, instruments and personal treasures from country music stars, past and present. Right: Here, we are ready to board the General Jackson Showboat for a lunch and cruise down the Cumberland River. We enjoyed the entertainment on board and the sights along the river. STARS IN LEMARS DEC 7, 2017 We had a delightful day in LeMars with the town s hospitality and good cheer. We polished off the day with ice cream at the Wells Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor. 37 flavors to choose from!
