1 June 2015 Dear TBA Parents and Guardians, Thank you so much for your commitment to your kids and Teen Bible Academy. Our TBA staff is beyond excited to share Jesus with your kids this summer. It is our hope and prayer that they will experience God in a way they have never experienced Him before and that we will all come away from TBA changed and ready to Stand Strong for Christ! Below is more information about this year s Teen Bible Academy, Stand Strong. Sunday, June 21: Registration, 4pm at Oakhurst SDA Church (Please note, there will be no parent orientation this year. Dinner will be served for staff and students at 5pm.) Rd 426, Oakhurst, CA Sunday, July 12: Pick up, 11:30am at the Central California Conference Office 2820 Willow Ave, Clovis, CA If you have not already turned in your student documents, please do so as soon as possible as this will greatly affect our efficiency on Registration day. These documents can be scanned and ed to kalissahope@me.com. These forms include: Health History Form Consent to Treat Form Exemption Immunization Video/Photo Release Liability Waiver Violence/Graffiti Waiver These forms can be downloaded from our website at cccsdayouth.org/tba. Prescription Medications: TBA staff can only administer medications that a student has brought with him/her (this includes Advil, Ibuprofen, etc.) Please send any prescribed and/or over the counter medications that your teen may need throughout the program. Our staff can hold medications for teens and remind them at the appointed times to take their medication if preferred. Cell Phones: Because of the length of Teen Bible Academy, students are welcome to bring their cell phones to call home throughout the program. 2 and prevent loss/theft, staff will keep phones in a secured area and return them to students during designated times throughout Study and Service weeks. Backpacks: Due to the large number of students needing backpacking backpacks this year, we are purchasing new Osprey backpacks available for rental at registration for a fee of $20 cash or check (made payable to the Central California Conference of SDA s). We have approximately 18 older, basic backpacks that will be available for rental free of charge. These backpacks will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis on registration day. Rental backpacks cannot be guaranteed for students who fill out student applications (available online at cccsdayouth.org/tba student app ) after 6/7/2015. 3 What To Bring: It is best to bring a backpacking backpack for week one and a second bag for Study/ Service weeks. For those who have signed up to borrow one of our backpacks, just bring two bags and we will have time for you to pack your backpack at Registration. The backpacking portion of the trip will be for six days and six nights, but remember to pack light because you will be carrying all of your belongings. We will also be adding about 10 or more lbs of food to your pack. Backpacking week food will be provided, but feel free to bring extra food if you feel you will need it. BACKPACKING CHECKLIST (*indicates item is optional) Small Bible Warm (0-30 degree) sleeping bag Sleeping pad or mat Tarp* Small pillow* Large backpacking backpack Hiking boots or tennis shoes (Comfortable for hiking and okay to get dirty) Personal items (Soap provided, you will need toothbrush, brush, etc...) Swimming suit (one piece for ladies, no speedos for guys) Small towel (For swimming/dishes) Flip flops/water shoes (If you need a break from hiking boots) Comfortable clothing (Don t forget warm clothes, it gets cold at night!) 1 pair of pants 1 pair of shorts 2-3 shirts (1 long sleeved, we recommend dri-fits!) 3 pairs of socks Undergarments (4 days) 1 water resistant jacket 1 sweatshirt Hat/sunglasses Bug spray Sunscreen

4 1 liter water bottle (Staff will have purifiers, bring one if you have one) Flashlight or headlamp (extra batteries) Spoon or fork Extra food* Cooking pot or can (Meals will be cooked over a campfire, so make sure that your pot has a handle and lid. Lightweight and sturdy pots are best.) Places to buy cookware: Wal Mart (they have a good size lightweight $6 pot) REI (more pricy but quality,) or make your own out of a used can and some wire. STUDY/SERVICE WEEKS CHECKLIST: Bible Pen Positive attitude Inexpensive camera Cell Phone Pocket money (For laundry and periodic trips to the store) Modest, comfortable clothing (no jewelry, please!) 5 TBA 2015 Schedule Sunday, June 21: Arrival & 4pm Location: Oakhurst Seventh-day Adventist Church Rd 426, Oakhurst, CA We will have dinner for staff and students at 5pm (no parent orientation this year!), followed by team building activities and a group worship service. We will all be spending the night at the church and heading out for our hikes on Monday morning. June 22 - June 28: Backpacking in the Sierras Locations: To be announced at Registration. Backpacking locations change from year to year due to snow levels. Backpacking/ Solitude Week will include team building activities, wilderness survival courses, worship, solitude time, prayer, and Bible study. June 28 - July 5: Study Week in Modesto, Visalia, & Sonora Locations: Your student s Study Week location will be one of the following: Parkwood SDA Church 301 Claratina Ave Modesto, CA Sierra View Jr Academy Ave 256 Exeter, CA Ceres SDA Church 1633 Central Ave Ceres, CA Armona Union Academy Locust St Armona, CA Mother Lode Adventist Jr Academy 80 N Forest Rd Sonora, CA July 5 - July 12: Service Week in Modesto, Visalia, & Fresno Locations: Groups will rotate Study Week locations (Sonora group will relocate to Fresno Adventist Academy: 5397 E Olive Ave, Fresno, CA 93727) Service week includes various outreach projects in the Modesto,Visalia, and Fresno areas. Visalia groups will also be involved in a youth-focused evangelistic series called Evidence: The Miracle of a Changed Life arranged by Pastor Ricky Schwarz.
