5 DID YOU KNOW? Windows are a big source of unwanted heat loss and heat gain in your home. Choosing the right window coverings means you can improve the comfort of your home all-year-round, reduce your power bills and cut carbon pollution. IMPACT OF THE SUN ON YOUR HOME Throughout the day, the sun moves from sunrise in the East through the North sky and sets in the West. This means the amount of heat from the sun received by a window varies according to the orientation and time of year. In summer, the sun travels higher through the sky with direct exposure to the East and West windows, in winter the sun travels lower with a greater angle through North facing windows. Each home is different, window size, orientation, glazing treatment, shading and internal coverings can have a significant impact of energy efficiency and conform. SUMMER WINTER KEEP YOUR HOME COOL IN SUMMER During summer, about half of unwanted heat comes through exposed windows, especially those facing east and west. Shading your windows with LUXAFLEX Awnings can minimise heat in your home to create a comfortable cooler environment and save you hundreds on energy bills. Heat Reflection Window pane INSIDE OUTSIDE Luxaflex Folding Arm Awnings easily retract and extend providing the perfect solution for your home, year round. 16 LUXAFLEX Folding Arm Awnings Site Assessment The Luxaflex range of Folding Arm Awnings are designed to offer protection from the harsh Australian sun. They offer style and functionality which has made them increasingly popular across Australia. When choosing the awning that s right for your situation, you need to consider functionality and location. The Luxaflex Folding Arm Awning offers a number of options when installing the awning. Here are some tips to assist with quoting and installation of the awning. Selecting the Luxaflex Folding Arm Awning and installation method appropriate for your home: There are a range of installation options designed to assist in installing your awning. Depending on your application, you have the choice of: 1) Mounting the awning under the eaves: The rafter brackets are attached to the rafter with the mounting surface against the top of the eave lining, allowing the awning to be mounted directly under the eaves of the house. 2) Mounting the awning as a reverse fascia: The reverse fascia bracket allows for even greater head clearance and is mounted in the same fashion as the fascia bracket. EAVE 3) Mounting the awning through the fascia: This option is selected if there is minimal head clearance. A slot is made next to the roof rafter EAVE through the fascia board. This allows the bracket to slide beside the roof rafter, which is then bolted together. 4) Mounting the awning as face fix onto brick. The standard wall bracket is used to secure the awning onto the wall. Please ensure there are at least 7 courses of bricks above the mounting position. Optional spreader plate ( ) can be used in combination with the awning bracket in order to spread the load more evenly over 3 courses of bricks. Ensure there are a minimum of 4 courses of bricks below the mounting plate. REPLACES ISSUE DATE: JANUARY 2011 APPROVED BY: N.CROFT PAGE 16 OF 84

17 LUXAFLEX Folding Arm Awnings Site Assessment 5) Mounting the awning on a Flat roof: The flat roof reverse fascia can be used in situations where the site has a flat roof with a concealed guttering. Timber Beam 6) Mounting the awning onto exposed rafters: The standard mounting bracket may be bolted directly onto the rafter using a backing plate. If unable to use a backing plate, you may use a minimum of 100mm coach bolts X 10mm diameter to attach the brackets to the rafters. ASSESSING THE INSTALLATION SITE: When deciding on where to fit your awning, there is a number of things that need to be considered to help ensure a successful installation. This includes checking for the following: Check List 1) Determine the width required and ensure there are no obstructions that could interfere with the installation and operation of the awning. Consider things such as light fittings, doors, and power lines. 2) Determine the projection that is required. The options for this include 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 3500 and 4000mm. When ordering the Sunrain Awning, please bear in mind that the awning has to be fully extended for it to operate properly in rainy conditions. 3) Consider the working area for the installer and ensure you take down adequate details to ensure the installer has the required tools to carry out the installation. Consider things such as working at heights, working near edges and any potential hazards such as uneven surfaces. 4) Consider the location of power for motorised awnings and choose a control side appropriate to the nearest connection point to power. Always select the control side when looking from outside to inside. 5) To assist your installer, take site photos of items that may impact on the way the awning will be installed. The more information you provide your installer about the site, the more prepared they will be for a successful installation. 6) The type and size of awning selected will determine the quantity and position of installation brackets. Please refer to the Product Reference guide section of your price list for these details. REPLACES ISSUE DATE: JANUARY 2011 APPROVED BY: N.CROFT PAGE 17 OF 84

19 Product Information With any type of fabric, some wrinkling and/or creasing will occur. This will be mostly on the seams and outer edges of the fabric. These are particularly visible on light coloured fabric due to the optical effect of differences in the refraction of light. These irregularities are inherent in the structure of the fabric and are not considered as a fault. Fabric will not be replaced because of these perceived imperfections as they do not affect the performance, or the sun protection of the awning. CHARACTERISTICS OF AWNING FABRIC Creasing (Figs. 1, 2) Puckering (Figs. 3, 4, 5) Tension Induced Stretching (Fig. 6) WARRANTY INFORMATION The VENTURA, GARDA & COMO Folding Arm Awnings are covered by the LUXAFLEX 5 Year Warranty.* * Conditions apply. 73 MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS WIDTH 1. Determine the width required to be covered with the client. Taking in light fittings and down pipes etc. 2. Determine the best method of securing mounting brackets to the area selected. The methods are as follows: a) Rafter bracket sets may be used to suspend the awning from rafters. Tiles must be pushed back for access. The rafter bracket is then bolted to the rafter so that the mounting surface sits on the eaves lining. The awning mounting bracket is then bolted through the eave lining to the rafter bracket (see sketch). b) The facia bracket should be used when the head clearance is not sufficient. Houses that are built on concrete slabs generally have this problem. A slot is made next to the roof rafter through the fascia board. This allows the bracket to slide beside the roof rafter, which is then bolted together. Note : access same as rafter bracket by sliding back tiles (see sketch). EAVE c) Alternatively, the reversed facia bracket can be used to gain even more height (see sketch). Note: this is not a standard bracket, must be ordered as a Reverse Facia Bracket. EAVE REPLACES ISSUE DATE: JANUARY 2011 APPROVED BY: N.CROFT PAGE 73 OF 84

74 d) Flat roof reversed facing bracket may be used if you have a flat roof with a concealed guttering. Note: this is not a standard bracket, must be ordered as a Flat Roof Reversed Facia Bracket. e) If face-fixed to bricks, there must be at least seven courses above the mounting position and the mounting plate is used with the standard mounting bracket to spread the load evenly over three courses of brick (see sketch). A minimum of four bricks below the mounting plate is recommended f) The standard mounting bracket may be bolted directly to the rafter using steel backing plates. (See sketch). If unable to use the backing plates you may use a minimum of 100mm coach blots x 10mm diameter to attach the brackets to the rafters. 3. Determine control side (viewed from outside looking at awning). DROP/PROJECTION The drop given on the order form is the arm size which is either 1600mm,1750mm, 2100mm, 2600mm, 3100mm or 3600mm. NOTE: The arm size is not the projection of the awning. To calculate the projection use the Drop & Projection Chart. REPLACES ISSUE DATE: JANUARY 2011 APPROVED BY: N.CROFT PAGE 74 OF 84

75 SUNRAIN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS When the awning is fully extended, at a pitch of at least 5 degrees, protection against water accumulation can be provided. For this reason Variable Valances are not recommended for awnings with projection greater than 3000mm. REPLACES ISSUE DATE: JANUARY 2011 APPROVED BY: N.CROFT PAGE 75 OF 84

76 INSTALLATION (CONTINUED) The awning gets delivered completely assembled [excluding optional hood] Follow the installation steps (1 to 4) 1. Determine the position of the brackets (see pic 3) Picture 3 IMPORTANT NOTE: When installing brackets they must be both perpendicular and string lined to ensure perfect alignment. Note: When using ceiling brackets in association with Rafter Brackets it is essential that an additional dressed timber beam [200mm x 50mm minimum] be installed under the eaves using 100mm x 12mm coach bolts [not supplied]. This will facilitate an optimum spread of the awning weight and will enable the ceiling brackets to be installed close to the arms, in their correct positions. This is necessary as the spacing of the rafters will not align with the required position of the ceiling brackets. Prior to the awning installation we recommend the rafter brackets and the dressed timber beam be installed to allow the customer to paint the timber. WARNING! all brackets supplied must be installed due to safety reasons. IMPORTANT NOTE: Awnings with Hood The hood must be installed after the wall mounting brackets have been installed and prior to the installation of the awning.
