3 ENSURE YOU READ AND UNDERSTAND THESE INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION THINGS TO DO BEFORE ASSEMBLY CHOOSING TENT ORIENTATION ON YOUR VEHICLE Before you fi t your new roof-top tent to your vehicle, you will need to decide whether you wish to have the roof-top tent open to the back or to the side of your vehicle. The addition of a shower/sitting closure will place it behind or beside the car depending on the orientation of the opened tent. Once you have decided which is the best suited to your application, follow the mounting instructions. If you are uncertain of the most appropriate method of mounting your roof-top tent, please contact our service centre on and we will be happy to provide advice particular to your circumstance. OFF THE SIDE For most medium or small vehicles opening off the side is preferable. The advantages of this orientation are: - It allows for tail-gates to operate normally - The closed tent pack is better balanced on the roof rack and creates less wind drag. OFF THE BACK For most large sized vehicles the opening off the back is IMPORTANT preferable. The advantages of this orientation are: - It leaves extra roof space for additional storage - With the tent open you will gain weather protection above your Check with your car manufacturer or dealer to make sure that the roof rack or roof bar is designed to hold the total weight of the roof-top tent and two average sized adults. It is recommended that this assembly requires a minimum of 2 persons. Specially designed roof racks may be required and sourced from your local roof rack dealer. Installation by experienced technicians is strongly recommended. Ensure appropriate safety equipment is used during the construction of this product. head when accessing the back of your vehicle - This orientation is ideally suited if you have a slot tail gate or door - Off the back mounting is not suitable if you have a single lift tail gate, as it will severely limit your access to the rear of the vehicle. 3

4 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS MOUNTING EXTRUSION TO TENT BASE 1. You need to decide which orientation the roof top tent will open on your vehicle (refer to previous page). If you decide your roof-top tent is to open off the rear of your vehicle then you will need to cut the bars as depicted in Diagram 1. FITTING THE ROOF-TOP TENT TO ROOF RACKS OR ROOF BARS 1. Lift the tent onto the vehicle 2. Place 1 x 8mm bolt into the slide plate. Slide the plate and bolt into the mounting extrusion. See Figure 2 & Diagram 2. Diagram 1 If you decide on the roof top tent opening to the side of your vehicle DO NOT cut the bars. 2. Place the tent and base on clean, level ground. 3. Using four 6mm bolts and 6mm fender washers supplied, slide your hand in-between the base and mattress and then insert the bolts into the pre-drilled holes. Attach the roof-top tent to your roof rack or roof bars in four places. Use 2 bolts and 2 slide plates with the base plate to hold the bar. 1 set per corner, see Figure Prior to tightening all the nuts, ensure that your roof-top tent is centred (side to side) on the roof of your vehicle and the mounting points (as far as possible) are symmetrically positioned near each corner of the tent. ROOF RACK 6mm Fender Washer Base Plate Diagram 2 4. Place the mounting extrusions into position over the bolts. 5. Slide the 6mm nuts into the mounting extrusions and tighten the bolts fi rmly from inside the tent. 6. Mount the ladder to the base of the tent using 6mm bolts. Bolt each ladder bracket to the base of the tent through the pre-drilled holes see Figure 1. Figure 3 Figure 1 4

5 SET UP INSTRUCTIONS 1. Park your vehicle on a suitable fl at piece of ground, free from overhanging trees or branches. Ensure that the hand brake is engaged and the vehicle is in gear or park for automatics. 4. Slide out the ladder until the locking pins engage. The ladder can now be used as a lever to open the tent. 2. Undo the 2 webbing straps on the PVC cover. Remove the PVC travel cover from the tent by unzipping around three edges and slide the remaining edge from the rope track. Keep the PVC cover on until the set up is fi nished. 5. Pull down on the ladder, which will now lift the top half of the tent. Make sure that the two halves of the tent engage properly and the tent fl oor is fl at. 3. Release the hold-down velcro straps on each side of the tent. 6. Check to make sure that the ladder is positioned securely on the ground, free from rocks, sticks and obstructions, so as to support the free half of the tent. Special Note: Although the tent structure is able to support itself in an emergency, the ladder is required for support at all the times for normal use. 5

6 SET UP INSTRUCTIONS 7. Rest the ladder on the ground and enter the tent. Install the 2 x spreader bars for the fly at this stage. It is recommended to connect the guy ropes provided to prevent the spreader bar from moving around in the wind. 9. Follow the same process with the short rods which hold the window covers in position. The holes for the window rods are situated on the aluminium angle below the window. Enter the tent and unzip the side window to allow access to position the small SSR correctly. Special notes: Take care when tensioning the SSR and ensure that your face is never in line with the rods. 8. Retrieve the long sprung steel rods (SSR), which are positioned to tension the flysheet. Insert the bottom end of the SSR into the pre-drilled hole in the angle aluminium section, passing through the eyelet of the flysheet. This will require you to bend the SSR so that the angle of the SSR is equal to the angle of the hole into which it should be inserted. 10. Always use guy ropes and pegs to secure the flysheet. 11. Stow the PVC cover carefully after the tent is set up. 6

7 FOLDING UP INSTRUCTIONS 1. Empty all belongings from inside the roof-top tent. 2. Release all guy ropes and remove all the SSR for the window covers and fl ysheet. Stow the SSR away. 3. Remove the spreader bars and store in the tent under the mattress. 4. Zip close all the windows and door. 5. Take hold of the bottom section of the ladder and start lifting it close to the tent. Keep the ladder as vertical as possible as the tent base rotates to vertical, slowly allow the ladder to rest against the tent base. It is important to maintain a smooth controlled closing to allow all the air to escape, without causing the sides to blow out. 6. Unplug the pin on the ladder to release the 2nd section of the ladder. Slide in the 2nd section of the ladder and lock in position using the pin. 7. Neatly tuck in excess canvas. Too much canvas sticking out will make it diffi cult to close the zipper of the tent cover. 8. Fasten the hold-down velcro straps on each side of the tent. 9. Pull the cover over the tent, ensuring that the corners of the board fi t snugly into the corners of the cover. Pull the zippers to close the tent taking care not to catch the canvas or polyester fl ysheet. 10. Tighten the webbing straps on the cover. Ensure that these straps are always tightened as they play an important role in reducing the wind resistance and bulge during high speed travelling. STORAGE OF THE TENT 1. If storing the tent off the vehicle, ensure that the tent is completely dry before packing away. 2. Be careful not to drag the tent on the ground. This will damage the cover and allow potential water leakage the next time you use the roof-top tent. Important: 1. Do not pull down excessively on the side retaining velcro straps when closing the tent. These straps are designed to hold the tent base together. When you are closing the tent, hold down the top folded base to compact the tent, then use the Velcro straps to secure the bases in this position. These straps will tear out of the tent if excessive force is applied. 2. Do not store the tent if wet. If you do have to pack away the tent while it is still wet, zip close all doors and windows to protect the inside of the tent, and pack away. Open the tent as soon as you can and let it dry thoroughly to prevent moisture damage. Open up the tent occasionally to let it air out and store the mattress in a dry area during extended periods of wet weather. If the tent is to be closed and stored for an extended period of time, it is very important that the tent and mattress is kept completely dry before closing. 3. Do not drill locking holes below the existing locking pin holes on the ladder. This will weaken the structure of the ladder and can cause injury. If you need to extend the ladder length, please purchase a ladder extension. 4. Be aware that with a roof-top tent fi tted to your vehicle the overall height is increased. You should measure the overall height with the roof-top tent fi tted as you will need this information to decide if the vehicle can enter car parks etc. 5. Centre of gravity. The attachment of the roof-top tent to your vehicle (similar to any other load on your roof rack) will alter it's centre of gravity. Take this into consideration when driving. 6. In-trip inspection. Regularly check that all nuts and bolts attaching your roof-top tent are tight and in good condition. 7
