3 ABOUT DRAGONS SUMMER CAMP Kingsway s CER Camp promotes fun, recreational, and educational activities in an air-conditioned, safe learning environment. The mission of the camp is to enrich children with artistic and scientific experiences, healthy choices and an introduction to sports in a cooperative learning environment. Our goal is to host children ages 6-11 years and provide them with a nurturing, friendly environment where they can grow and make new friends. Kingsway Dragons Summer Camp offers six themed weeks of structured, educational and recreational activities. Daily activities include arts and crafts, science, technology, fitness, nutrition, educational and cooperative games, large and small group instruction and much more! There will also be fun, supervised weekly day trips and exciting surprises each and every week! Registration materials for summer 2015 are available now! 4 WELCOME TO KINGSWAY CER ANNUAL DRAGONS SUMMER CAMP We would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your children! We are proud to introduce our inaugural year of Summer Day Camp. Please review the information in this handbook and let us know if you have any questions. IMPORTANT CONTACT INFORMATION: Camp Directors: Nicholas Fiocco and Tracy Fagan cer@krsd.org Kingsway Regional Middle School Phone: (856) ext MEET YOUR 2015 CAMP DIRECTORS Nick Fiocco is an art teacher at Kingsway Regional High School, where he is an adviser to the art and photography club as well as stage crew director. He has many years of summer camp experience to share with the Dragons Summer Camp. Nick received his Bachelor s degree in education from Rowan University. Tracy Fagan brings years of sports camp experience to the Dragons Summer Camp. She is currently employed at Kingsway Regional High School, is on staff with the girls basketball program, and is the current president of the Swedesboro/Woolwich Basketball League, a position she has held in the community for the past 17 years. Tracy is a four time Hall of Famer for the sport of basketball and holds an MBA from Mount Saint Mary s College. She and her five children reside in Swedesboro. THE DRAGONS CAMP EXPERIENCE!! AGE GROUPS: DRAGONS I (6-7), DRAGONS II (8-9), DRAGONS III (10-11) At our camp children will be grouped with others of a similar age to enhance their learning experience. There is a rotating daily schedule for all age groups so that EVERY age group will participate in EVERY activity, EVERY day. COUNSELORS We are extremely fortunate to staff our camp with qualified, CPR-certified college students, high school students and teachers from within the Kingsway Regional School District. THEMES AND SPORTS Each camp week has been assigned a specific theme. All activities, including the weekly field trip, sports, art and science experiments will incorporate the theme to engage the children and promote creativity. All sports will be introduced in a basic, non-competitive environment, which will teach the kids the rules in a cooperative group setting to open up their minds and bodies to new activities. 4 P age
5 WEEKLY THEMES AND DESCRIPTIONS July 6, 2015 July 10, 2015: Wet, Wild, and Wacky Who doesn t love wet, wild, and wacky summertime water fun? Campers will have a blast participating in action packed water activities such as the sponge water toss, water balloon toss, and water bucket relays! The week caps off with a giant outdoor water slide and a visit from the ice cream truck! Bring your bathing suit, a towel and your sunscreen!! Thursday s trip will be to the Please Touch Museum for an afternoon of fun! Just remember to bring a towel, sunscreen, and dry clothes each day! Sport of the Week: Sprinkler Soccer Thursday: Trip to the Please Touch Museum July 13, 2015 July 17, 2015: Wildlife Week The world is full of exotic and unique animals of all shapes and sizes. Come with us as we explore your wild side with a variety of animal themed activities including a visit from Zoo on Wheels and the Reading Therapy Dogs! We will even go on safari and dig for dinosaur fossils! Campers will be able to live what they learn as we travel to Adventure Aquarium to visit aquatic life up close and personal! Sport of the Week: Sports Sampler Thursday: Trip to Adventure Aquarium July 20, 2015 July 24, 2015: Character Week Campers will have loads of fun while being transported to a magical world of video game, movie and TV characters. Bring your favorite stuffed animal or action figure along for singing, dancing, movies and more! In-house movie of the week will be decided by a camper vote and the Thursday trip out will be to the movie theater to see Minions! We will pack a character-themed snack bag to take along that is second to none!! Be sure you represent your favorite character all week long! Sport of the Week: Basketball Thursday: Trip to the Movie Theater July 27, 2015 July 31, 2015: Around the World Travel around the world with the Dragons Summer Camp! Each day campers will experience different cultures, games, music, snacks and more! We will even be doing cultural arts and crafts, science experiments and stuffing our own piñatas! Field trip Thursday will take us to the Discovery Museum of Cherry Hill for an awesome afternoon of indoor fun!! Sport of the Week: Volleyball Thursday: Trip to Discovery Museum August 3, 2015 August 7, 2015: Color Week Get ready for a fun and colorful week! Color science, arts and crafts, tie-dying shirts, scavenger hunts and color wars are the happenings of the week. Giant colored parachutes, colorful finger painting and fun colored water balloons will boost camp spirit to a new high! Thursday Trip of the week is to The Skyzone where the kids can have a ball playing and jumping at the indoor trampoline park!! Sport of the Week: Wet & Colorful Obstacle Course Thursday: Trip to Skyzone August 10, 2015 August 14, 2015: Summer s Best Camper s choice! Did you have one camp activity that you absolutely loved and want to repeat? This is the week to do it! Daily fun games, sport and activities and arts and crafts will be camper s choice. We will cap off the week with a trip to the FunPlex, home of rides, mini golf, go-carts, laser tag and more as well as an end of summer camp party that all parents are invited to! There will also be another visit from the ice cream truck for a cool sweet treat! This week is sure to leave a lasting impression that will carry through to the rest of the summer!! 6 CAMP INFORMATION CAMP HOURS: The camp runs Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Before and after care is available for an additional charge of $6 per session. Before care is from 7:00-8:30 am and after care is available from 4:30-6:00 pm. Please be prompt when picking up and dropping off. For late pick-up fees and procedures please see page 8. WHAT TO BRING: Each camper should come comfortably dressed and prepared for a fun-filled day of activities. Campers will need to bring sneakers and a lunch each day. The camp has scheduled a daily snack break so please bring a snack. We suggest you send in an additional snack if you feel it is necessary, particularly if your child is in camp after care. We are a peanut-free camp so please do not bring any lunches or snacks containing peanuts. DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES: Campers will be dropped off at the middle school main entrance at 8:30 am. Campers will need to be signed in by someone on the Authorized for Pick-Up and Drop-Off form. Additionally, the person picking up the camper needs to be someone listed on that form and present proper photo I.D. Names can be added to the authorized pick-up list at any time. No camper will be allowed to leave without being signed out by an authorized person. Anyone picked up after 4:30 pm will automatically be enrolled and charged for after care. Anyone enrolled in after care and picked up after 6:00 pm is subject to late pick-up fees (see pg. 8). If a camper is being dropped off late or picked up early from camp, please call ahead of time and notify the camp directors. No camper will be admitted to enter or leave camp without being signed in or out. EARLY DISMISSAL: If for any reason your child needs to leave camp before 4:00 pm, please provide a written note with your camper. The child/children will only be released to the person listed on your pick-up authorization list. Please make sure they come to pick up with the proper identification. You may add/delete names to your authorization list at any time. LOST AND FOUND: Please mark all your children s items with their name. Kingsway CER Dragons Summer Camp is not responsible for any lost items during camp. We will have an onsite Lost and Found. 6 P age
7 CAMP PAYMENTS: Kingsway CER Dragons Summer Camp 2015 The camp offers 3, 4 or 5 day enrollment options. 5 days - $210 week per child 4 days - $190 week per child 3 days - $160 week per child PAYMENT INFORMATION Registration fee: There is a $125 registration fee per child that will be charged at the time of registration. This balance will be deducted from the money due at first payment. Payment Schedule: Payments for the camp will be made in full prior to the start of camp on July 6 th. First payment is due on May 8 th, while the second payment is due June 5 th. May 8 th Balance of weeks 1-3 is due. Registration fee will be taken from the total due. June 5 th Balance of weeks 4 6 is due, as well as any remaining balances. Please make all checks payable to Kingsway CER and note your child s name on the check. All payments go to: CER c/o Business Office 213 Kings Highway Woolwich Twp, NJ The final date for registration is May 1 st. Please enroll your child before this date to ensure there is a spot reserved for them in their designated age group. Add-on Registration Weeks: If you wish to enroll your child in additional weeks they will be granted if space is available. Example: If your child is signed up for the first 3 weeks and you wish to add an additional week or two after the start of summer camp, late enrollment will be granted if space is open, pending review from camp directors. Add-on Registration Days: If a camper is enrolled for a partial week during the summer and an additional day is needed after the start of camp, it can be added on at the rate of $55 per day. Example: if signed up for 4 days (M, T, W, Th) the week of July and you notice that your child needs to attend on that Friday as well, you may sign up your child to attend that Friday for an additional cost of $55. This excludes trip days (Thursdays) 7 P age
8 BEFORE & AFTER CARE: Before and after care is offered to campers. The cost is $6 for each 1.5 hour session. Before care runs from 7:00 am to 8:30 am. No camper will be admitted into the building before 7:00. After care runs from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. There is a $5 fee for every 15 minutes late your child is picked up after 6:00 pm. Please notify the staff and fill out a calendar the week prior stating which days before and after care will be necessary. LATE PICK-UPS Please contact the camp office in case of an unavoidable late pick-up or emergency. Campers picked up after 4:30 pm will automatically be enrolled in the after care program and your account will be charged $6. There is a $5 fee for every 15 minutes late your child is picked up after 6:00 pm. TRIP FEES: There is a $10 activity fee for each child attending the weekly trip on Thursdays. Campers electing not to go on the trip may remain at the school where the camp day will resume as usual. REQUEST FOR RECEIPT: Upon request we can issue a final receipt for all camp payments. CAMP CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY: The following criteria will be used to determine the amount of money that will be returned to you if a cancellation is requested. Only the non-refundable $125 deposit per child is retained for cancellation requests made two weeks or more prior to the enrolled camp session. Refunds will NOT be given to any cancellation request made fourteen days or less before the camp session begins. OTHER REFUNDS: Absences: If your child is absent please call (856) ext Refunds are not available for short-term illness, special events, vacation periods or other personal commitments. Extended Illness: An extended illness of 3 or more consecutive days is eligible for a possible refund. A doctor s note and signed note from the parent/guardian must be received within 5 working days of the absence for consideration. Dismissal from Camp: We reserve the right to dismiss a child if we feel we do not have the adequate expertise or resources for the child s educational, medical or emotional needs. Dismissal for the aforementioned reasons will result in a complete refund for unused days. 8 P age
9 Dismissal may be necessary for disciplinary reasons. This action will only take effect after proper documentation and consultation has occurred with the parent/guardian, camper and Camp Directors. REGISTRATION FORMS: The following forms need to be received as part of the admission packet. Your child/children will not be permitted to participate without completion of ALL of the proper paperwork. All registration forms can be picked up at the high school administration office or downloaded on the CER page on the Kingsway website (under the Community tab). SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION: Please fill out an additional registration form for each child enrolled in the summer camp. Ensure that you are completing the form in its entirety as the information contained is necessary for your child s registration. Please specify whether your child will be enrolled for 3, 4, or 5 days per week. MEDICAL HISTORY FORM: To ensure the safety of your children all campers must submit the medical history form along with their immunization record. DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES CAMPER CODE OF CONDUCT: All incidences of disciplinary problems will be documented and reported to camp administration. Minor incidences will result in a discussion with the camper or a timeout in the Director s office with a phone call home if deemed necessary. On the rare occasion of a serious infraction, immediate suspension may occur. If this happens parents will be contacted immediately and a meeting with Camp Administration will occur. AUTHORIZATION OF PICK-UP FORM: A written authorization/permission from the legal parent/guardian authorizing all persons listed on the pick-up form must be on file for the safety of the child/children. You may add or delete names at any time during the duration of the camp. FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIPS: Registered campers will be taking field trips every Thursday during camp. Permission slips are required in order to attend each trip. Lunch will NOT be provided on these field trips unless otherwise noted. If a camper forgets their lunch, the staff will reach out to the parent/guardian. If no one can be reached we will provide a lunch for the camper for a fee of $5. There will be a daily snack break for the children. Please send a juice/water and a light snack(s). If you child is staying for the camp after care, we encourage you to send in an additional snack. Peanut-Free Camp: We are proud to be a peanut free camp, so please do not send your child with any peanuts or peanut products with their lunches or snacks. We thank you as we attempt to ensure the safety of all campers. CAMPER DRESS CODE Campers should wear comfortable clothing such as shorts, sneakers, and T-shirts. Please note our facility is fully air-conditioned. No open toe shoes are permitted. CAMP T-SHIRTS: On the first day of camp the children will be given a camp T-shirt and a bag to store their items. The T-shirt can be worn at any time and is not required for participation. Campers are required to wear the camp T-shirt on trip days (Thursday) 12 P age
13 SUNSCREEN: We have the ability to utilize the outdoor facilities during camp. We recommend that you apply waterproof sunscreen on your child before camp. The camp does not supply sunscreen. If you send sunscreen with your child please mark the bottle clearly with his/her name. The counselors will assist the children as necessary. TRIP TIMES: Every Thursday we will take a fantastic trip to a new and exciting place. We will leave the building around 9:00 am and return around 2:00 pm. Please note that if you need to pick up your child earlier than 2:00 pm on a Thursday, you may have to wait until we return to the school, or make prior arrangements for special pick up. CAMPER DROP OFF AND PICK-UP INFORMATION DROP OFF TIME: Drop off begins at 8:15 am and ends at 8:30 am sharp PICK-UP TIME: Pick-up begins at 4:00 pm and ends promptly at 4:30 pm. IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING TRANSPORTATION: Every person picking up must be on the child s authorization list and sign out the child/children they are picking up. Please be sure to bring the proper I.D. Carpooling: If you anticipate carpooling, please be sure all drivers are on your authorization list and have proper I.D. 16 Camper Code of Conduct Agreement Camper s Name (Print) I will always have the opportunity to meet with the camp directors or other camp staff to tell my side of any incident that is being reported to the camp office. I will report any problems that I am having at camp or with any staff member to the camp directors. 1. I will remain with my camp program at all times and will not leave without a camp administrator s permission. 2. I will not bring expensive jewelry, electronic games of any kind, and trading cards or comics to camp. 3. I will respect camp property, off-site facilities, and all bus transportation (if provided). I will not chew gum at camp. If I willfully destroy property or equipment, monetary reimbursement will be required. 4. I will obey all fire drill safety and never pull or play with a fire alarm. 5. I will respect the safety of everyone in a moving vehicle and will obey all bus rules (if applicable). 6. I will respect personal property of campers and staff and not take anything that doesn t belong to me. 7. I will respect the camp staff and follow instructions. I will not run away from my group or camp counselors. I will move about the corridors in a quiet and orderly fashion and not linger or wander between classes. 8. I will be a good camp friend and not fight or instigate a fight. I will not hurt anyone with unkind words or actions. Any object that may hurt or place another person in fear of his/her safety may be considered a weapon and is cause for serious disciplinary action that could include immediate expulsion from camp. The camp director will investigate and resolve any safety issue immediately. 9. I will show respect for everyone and only use appropriate language and gestures at camp. 10. I will obey Internet safety rules as instructed by my counselor. Failure to obey Internet safety may include immediate expulsion from camp. 17 Disciplinary Policy In order to maintain and ensure an orderly and enjoyable camping experience for everyone, it is necessary to adhere to the following discipline policy. 1 st Offense: Camp director or camp administrator will discuss the problem with the camper. An administrator will also notify the parent(s)/guardian(s) of the situation by telephone. 2 nd Offense: Camper will meet with the camp director or camp administrator and the parent to attempt to resolve the situation. 3 rd Offense: Immediate expulsion from the camp. No refund for remaining camp session. Camper would not be allowed to return to any remaining camp sessions during the year. NOTE: Kingsway Regional School District reserves the right to immediately dismiss, without refund, any camper who demonstrates aggressive or violent behavior, such as fighting or destruction of property. The following are examples of offenses requiring disciplinary action. Including but not limited to the use of: Obscenities, drugs, aggressive behavior (pushing, shoving, biting), stealing, verbal disruption of activity and a flagrant disregard of camp rules. Other items: Please discourage your camper from bringing money, games, or toys from home. The school is not responsible for money lost in vending machines. Professional level staff is available at all times for medical emergencies. Please note: We strongly recommend that your child not bring anything valuable to camp. 18 Authorization for Pick-Up and Drop-Off If you need emergency camper pick-up, you must send a note or call the camp at (856) , ext (include the person s name, relationships, and pick-up dates). I also authorize the physician or hospital to release my child after treatment to a representative of Kingsway Regional School District. All information on this form is complete, true and accurate to the best of my knowledge. In case of evacuation, I give permission for Kingsway Regional School District to relocate my child to a designated safe location. In addition, I give permission for the above mentioned child to be photographed/videotaped during this camp season by a representative of the Kingsway Regional School District. I understand that the photograph/videotapes will be used by Kingsway Regional School District for the purpose of publicizing and promoting the District s programs and services, and that no compensation will be offered to the child or the family. 19 REQUIRED AGREEMENT AND DISCLAIMER FORM I hereby register my child for The Kingsway Regional CER Program Dragons Summer Camp I understand that the program hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and that additional before and after care is available but at a rate of $6 per session. If I do not pick up my child by 4:30, my child will be automatically charged with the after care cost of $6. If I do not pick up my child by 6:00 p.m., late payment penalties of $5.00 for each 15 minute fraction will be charged. I understand that Camp begins promptly at 8:30am. If my child will be late or will not be attending on a particular day, I will call and report my child s absence to camp directors. I also understand the two payment due dates of May 8 th (weeks 1-3) and June 5 th (weeks 4-6) are due before the start of camp. I understand that there is a late fee of $25 per week if registered after April 15 th. I understand that there is a $125 registration deposit that is due the day of registration. This fee will be subtracted from the first payment due May 8 th. I understand that a lunch and snack(s) must be brought each day to camp. I understand that all Field Trips are optional and not a requirement of our Summer Camp. I understand that a $25.00 late payment penalty is added when payment is not made within the first 5 days of the due date. A $35.00 penalty will be charged for all checks returned by the bank. I have seen the Kingsway Regional campus and hereby give permission for my child to use all the facilities, including athletic fields, and hereby find them safe and suitable for my child. I have clearly explained all camp rules to my child and he/she understands the consequences for failure to abide by them. I certify that my child s medical records are complete and that he/she is fully immunized and physically and mentally able to participate in all physical activities of the program. I certify that my child is covered by a health insurance policy and that Kingsway Regional s insurance will cover immediate Emergency treatment ONLY, not Liability. I understand that in case of an accident, I will first submit the claim to my insurance carrier. I agree to be responsible for any hospitalization or other required treatment. I hereby give permission for my child s photo, group video or group photos to be published in either the school s website or any other publication. I understand that my child will be transported to/from all Field Trips in privately owned, sub-contracted school busses or vans and hereby release Kingsway Regional CER, its Directors, Employees or volunteers of any and all liability that may occur at the school campus, during any athletic activity or during any optional Field Trip. I understand that NO DEDUCTIONS will be made for days or weeks absent. I UNDERSTAND THAT ALL PAYMENTS MADE ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
