1 FALL 2013 MOVE-IN ARRIVING Residence Hall Move-in is scheduled for FRIDAY, AUGUST 23. Please note that students are assigned to SPECIFIC CHECK-IN TIME FRAMES ARE BASED ON THE LOCATION OF THEIR HOUSING ASSIGNMENT AND ARE LISTED TO THE RIGHT. We ask that all students and families adhere to this schedule as it allows for a smooth and efficient move-in process and minimizes waiting time in lines and at our unloading sites. Check-in will be held at the CAMPUS RECREATION BUILDING from 8:00AM to 1:30PM ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 23. When arriving on campus, all students and families should head to the Lincoln Parking Garage. Vehicles that are over 8 feet tall or that are pulling trailers should park in the Manitou Lot on the corner of W. University Dr. and S. Manitou Ave. Once students/families are parked they should report to the front entrance of the Campus Recreation Building. More information will be given during check-in as to how and where to unload student belongings. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FRIDAY AUGUST 23 3:00PM - 4:00PM: UNIVERSITY THE MORRISON CENTER At 2:45pm RAs will gather their residents and families and walk them over to the Morrison Center for Opening Convocation. Convocation signals the official beginning of the academic year and will feature a welcome by campus leaders including Dr. Bob Kustra. All families are invited to attend Convocation with their students! FIRST COMMUNITY MEETING Residents all are required to attend their first floor meeting. Residents should ask their RA for this meeting location or look for advertising in their community. 8:00PM - 12:00AM: CAPTURE THE STUDENT UNION PATIO What s more fun than a campus-wide scavenger hunt and a movie under the stars? 2 ...Continued 10:30PM - 1:00AM COLLEGE NIGHT AT FRED MEYER Board the bus for Fred Meyer and get special discounts for school on everything from bookmarks to binders. This is a great option for students traveling great distances who may not have room to pack all of the items they may need for the year. This is also a convenient option for students who want to coordinate purchase of shared belongings with their roommate. This event is only available to Boise State students and is lots of fun! FRED MEYER 3527 S Federal Way Boise ID BEDS: MATTRESSES Chaffee (A & B, Driscoll, Keiser, Morrison, Taylor, Towers, Clearwater, Payette and Selway Suites: 74 long x 38 wide x 5 deep and can sleep students 6 2 and shorter. Chaffee D Wing 76 long x 38 wide x 5 deep and can sleep students 6 4 and shorter. Lincoln Townhouses Doubles, so students should prepare to buy appropriate bedding. Housing & Residence Life has a limited number of extended mattresses that measure 90 long x 38 wide x 5 deep. Due to the limitations of the physical set up of Towers Halls, extended mattresses cannot be placed in the bed frames in Towers. Students who are taller than 6 5 can request an extended mattress by ing bsuhousing@boisestate.edu from their my.boisestate account with the following information: full name, hall and room number, side of the room assigned to and the student s height. A Housing and Residence Life representative will respond back with a confirmation of the status of the request. *Please Note: Fitted sheets for 90 inch mattresses are not readily available at most department stores and will likely require the student to purchase at a specialty or online store. BEDS: HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT Down low to the floor. Probably like yours at home. Bottom of bed will be from the floor once adjusted. High enough for the dresser to fit under the bed. Bottom of bed will be from the floor once adjusted Up high enough to fit almost anything under your bed. Not recommended for people uncomfortable with heights. 3 BICYCLES ON CAMPUS STORAGE Bicycles may not be stored or parked in any public areas, passage ways, student rooms, balconies/decks/landings, nor ridden in the residence halls for reasons of safety. Bicycles should only be locked on exterior bike racks or placed in bicycle lockers. The Department of Parking and Transportation has a number of storage spaces in their Bike Barn, check out their website for more details. We strongly suggest students use a strong krypton-type lock on their bikes. We also suggest all bikes be registered with the Boise Police Department. The online form can be filled out at City of Boise s Bike Registration website. Students may also want to consider renting a bike for the year through the Boise State Cycle Learning Center, rather than worrying about purchasing, storing and transporting their own personal bicycles. REMOVAL Bicycles that are parked in and/or chained to non-designated spaces will immediately be tagged and impounded for a minimum of 48 hours. After a maximum of 30 days any remaining impounded bicycles will be donated to any number of community charities as determined by Housing and Residence Life. The same process applies for bicycles left in/on Housing and Residence Life after the end of the spring semester. Boise Bike Registration Cycle Learning Center Bike Barn BRONCOCARD (STUDENT ID) Your student ID is a critical component of your life at Boise State. Carry it with you at all times! It is your key to the campus, providing you with the following access: Door access to your residence hall Laundry facilities Admission into the Campus Recreation Center Meal plan validation Checking out books at Albertsons Library Discounts at the Games Center Bronco football and basketball games Movie tickets BroncoCard BroncoCard Management much more! If you don t have your Bronco Card or have lost it, you may contact the Bronco Card Office on the first floor of the Student Union next to the Information Desk. A replacement fee is charged for lost ID cards (which should be reported immediately). COMPUTER/INTERNET QUESTIONS Housing & Residence Life employs a team of computer technicians who are available to help with any computer problems our residents have including: trouble getting on the Internet, computer viruses, hardware issues, assistance with installing anti-virus software, etc. Students can set up an appointment to have a computer technician come to their room and assist them by going to the service desk for their building. 4 MEAL PLANS All student meal plans go in effect during the lunch shift on the date of official Fall and/or Spring residence hall openings (Fall 2013: August 23, Spring 2014: January 18). Parents and families who wish to join their student at the Boise River Cafe during opening weekend are welcome to do so. Please note that door charges for those without a meal plan are as follows: Breakfast: $6.69 Lunch: $9.27 Mid-day: $7.48 Dinner: $11.33 Brunch: $7.91 (Saturday and Sunday only) CampusDish Meal Plan Changes Any meal plan changes must be made by the 10th day of each semester*. After that, students must wait until next semester to request a change. PARKING Below you will find essential information that relates to the Academic Year parking permits. Students living in the Residence Halls/ Suites can apply online starting July 1, 2013 through the Parking & Transportation website. Parking permits will be sold on a first come-first serve basis Students can pick them up from the Transportation and Parking office during the regular office hours (7:00am - 5:00pm, Mon - Fri). Visit the Parking and Transportation website for specific information about parking, purchasing permits, Zipcars, shuttle, local bus service, and much more. PACKAGE DELIVERY To find out what your address will be, visit the Student Portal and select the building in which you have been assigned. Your address will be underneath Mailing Information. Students and families may begin sending packages prior to their arrival on campus. Housing and Residence life will begin accepting and logging packages at the students mailing address on Monday, August 5th, Students will need to bring their student ID to the front desk servicing their building to pick up their packages. It is the sole responsibility of the student to accurately keep his/her mailing address current through the United States Postal Service If a student switches rooms, apartments or vacates their building, they must update their address through Unites States Postal Service. 5 PAYMENTS First Housing payments are due prior to move in. If a student s account shows sufficient financial aid to pay the fees and first payment, this will be considered the same as payment being made. No late charges are assessed until after September 1 for Fall. If first payment is not made by August 23 for Fall 2013, students will need to bring proof of payment with them to check-in to avoid further delays. Housing charges will be posted to Broncoweb accounts within 2 business days of receipt of the assignment letter. To allow for greater flexibility, housing charges will be automatically assigned into a payment plan (maximum payments 5 per semester) within one week of charges posting. Payments are due on the 25th of every month (July through April). Check Bronco Accounts regularly to view posted charges. Please send payments to Payment & Disbursement Center, Boise State University, Admin 101, 1910 University Drive, Boise, ID or online through your My.BoiseState account. WHAT TO BRING ACCEPTABLE ITEMS Appliances with closed coil elements (coffee pots, hot pots, and hot air poppers), bedding, computers, dishes and utensils, fans, hair dryers, irons (self-shut off preferred), lamps (excluding halogen lights), mini refrigerators (no larger than 4.2 cubic ft.), microwaves (up to watts), personal hygiene devices, posters, stereos and other audio equipment, TVs and other visual equipment are all acceptable items. PROHIBITED ITEMS Due to fire concerns/regulations, the following items are not allowed in residence hall spaces: Any item with an open flame or that burns (candles, stenson burners, incense, etc.), appliances with exposed heating elements (toasters, toaster ovens, broilers, hot plates, etc.), appliances that are damaged (frayed cords, bent plugs, broken safety handles/legs, etc.), electric skillets, fog machines, halogen lamps/lights, incense, personal mattresses, personal upholstered furniture, power tools, real Christmas trees/wreaths, space heaters, water beds, weapons, and window air conditioning units. ITEMS TO CONSIDER Students are responsible for bringing their own cleaning supplies, laundry detergent. Students who live in buildings that have community bathrooms will have toilet paper and hand towels provided by Housing and Residence Life. Students living in buildings that are suite-styled or single rooms with adjoining bathrooms are required to provide their own toilet paper, hand towels and any other necessary paper products. * Residents living in the Suites (Clearwater, Payette and Selway), Yale Court and our Townhomes (Aspen,,,, Tamarack and ) may bring toasters, toaster ovens, and electric skillets because they have a full kitchen at their disposal.
