Everyone on our current list will be receiving an letter or snail letter from Rollin Oldies Vintage Trailers and become a member of our social organization. We will be charging a nominal fee ($5) for those that we need to mail hard copies of the newsletter or send me some stamps for a year. We have five dry sites still available, I also can get a couple sites (w/e) that are back-to back sites (E3 & 4 ) if you have a close friend with!! a vintage trailer and you d like share space with. This will be our fourth year that we have sold out before Christmas all of our hookup sites! If you would like to be on my wait list for a w/e site in case of a cancellation, me! Also new this year will be the addition of at least two cabins between the old & new camp areas! I will have first chance at renting them, so if your trailer will not be finished, let me know and I will put you on my wait list for renting them. Cost will be comparable to the Yurts in the state parks! We have some new activities planned for our 2012 rally, theme is Happy Days, A hub cap will be your site marker for 2012, more details later! Finally I would like to thank the following individual for all the work he put forth into making our 2011 rally a success at River Bend, Oregon! 3 ROVT Feature members Bob Burkholder and Cindi Rice Bob and I have been very keen about camping for several years now. We have just about every single thing a person could want or need as far as tent camping goes, including a good supply of dutch ovens and accompanying utensils, and have spent many happy hours during nice summer weather enjoying the endless supply of spectacular Oregon campgrounds. But...given our enormous supply of tent camping items as well as a full camp kitchen outfit, setting up camp became a three hour affair; taking everything down and packing it away was also just as long and exhausting. Eventually we started thinking about how much easier it all would be if we had a nice little antique-style Teardrop trailer to haul, with its tidy little kitchen tucked under the back hatch and an already-setup bedroom inside its main body. THAT seemed so much simpler to deal with! So, with that in mind, two summers ago I bought a great little book entitled "Teardrops and Tiny Trailers" and spent one blissful evening happily perusing each and every page of fabulous, full color photos of vintage Teardrops. All was well until I came to the section entitled "Canned Hams"; suddenly my interest in Teardrops evaporated on the spot, and I became entranced with all the photos of adorable, completely restored Shasta trailers. How perfect they were! Everything needed was all there under one small, cozy roof ~ a little sleeping nook, charming vintage kitchen with built-in antique stove, perfectly-sized-for-two dining table with twin booths, surprisingly roomy closet space...even an original, stillfunctioning icebox was included. And, electricity too! No more lanterns flickering out during 9 p.m. dish washing sessions in our outdoor camp kitchen. Why, they even had water tanks, capable of providing running water in the kitchen sink, and incredible storage capabilities in all the various bins, cabinets, and under-the-floor storage areas. Wow! Armed with this new information, I set about scouting out the perfect trailer for us. It had to be a Shasta, though. We both loved the look of them, particularly the 1956 model with its curved little back end. Too cute! We scouted out several various local ads for Shasta s, restored or otherwise, but none seemed to fit the bill. Then, one afternoon, just by chance I decided to check out EBay, and voila! There she was - an absolutely adorable yellow and white, completely restored, 1956 Shasta trailer, up for auction with 6 days left on the bidding. Given the fact that the trailer's location was in Southern California and therefore not too far away (instead of somewhere far flung like Minnesota or Tennessee), we decided to enter the bidding war, and war it was! There were already 6 bids on the darling little thing, and we feverishly placed our bid, then sweated out the final closing moments of the auction days later.

4 After much pacing and biting of nails, our persistence was finally rewarded with the happy news that we'd won the auction and the dear little trailer was really and truly ours. We had her brought up to Oregon on a flat bed truck, carefully inspected her from top to bottom, then lovingly tucked her away in the garage to await the next camping season. (and the little trailer is definitely a "her"; she has a unique feminine energy about her.) Several friends suggested we should give her a name, and offered up all manner of ideas, the best one being "Buttercup", named after her cheerful yellow and white exterior. Perfect! So now we're the happy and proud owners of our own little "Buttercup", and she attracts attention wherever she goes. Driving down the boulevard, cruising the freeway, even parked in a grocery store parking lot while I dash in for some supplies ~ there's always someone wanting to make her acquaintance. We've added many touches of our own, some aesthetic and some practical, and we both feel very happy to have her in the family. The only thing left to do was find a vintage trailer club to join, and now it seems we've found that, too. ROVT Go to rovt.org to see more pictures of Rice s trailer and other member profile s! 5 Converted 1958 GMC Bus into a MH, one of our rovt members. What is your favorite memory of the 5o s era? What is your favorite vintage trailer from this period of time? Camping Receipt 2011, Apple Pie on a Stick 1 Jonathan or Rome apple for each person 1 cup granulated sugar 1 tablespoon cinnamon Push a stick or dowel through the apple top until the apple is secure on the stick. Place the apple 2 or 3 inches above the hot coals and turn the apple while roasting it. As the apple cooks, the skin browns and the juice drips out. When the skin is loose, remove the apple from the fire (but leave it on the stick). Peel the hot skin off very carefully. Combine sugar and cinnamon. Roll the apple in the sugar-cinnamon mixture, then return it to roast over the coals, letting the mixture heat to form a glaze around the apple. Remove from coals and let it cool. We have quite a few newbie s attending in 2012 as the vintage trailer fever for ownership continues to increase along with the cost of owning/restoring one! Check in at the shelter Saturday: Open house. There is also a car show in town during the day, plus other fun events. I will be listing more NON-ROVT rallies in upcoming newsletters next year after the holidays! Vintage: Characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic. So are the trailers in ROVT vintage? Some would say no, because our cut off date is 1980, 31 yrs & older, so are they classic? Are the 40 s vintage? The cars of the 50 s- 60 s-70 s are considered classic, so then are the trailers? I believe most trailers are both vintage & classic that belong to ROVT! Just my opinion for what is worth! Jerry
