2 Summer Camp Offerings Summer Day Camp Arts and crafts, fun sport competitions, organized games, and special events with guest presenters. Kids enjoy a trip to the local pool for recreational swimming and a special event or field trip for each of the seven weekly sessions. Campers must be minimum age listed by first day of camp and no older than the maximum age listed by the first day of camp. Upon completion students receive certification in first aid and American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard completion certificate. Participants must be able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards of freestyle and breaststroke), tread water for 1 minute, and swim underwater for 10 feet, and float for 30 seconds. No before or after care. This is not a lifeguard training class. Resident Fee: $200; Non-Resident: $205 Age North Pt Pool NP M-F Jul :00a-4:00p Camp Splash Camp focuses on water safety, swimming skills, diving skills, and aquatic games. Campers participate in other traditional camp activities including popular sports, games, and crafts. Participants must be able to swim one width of the pool and tread water for 30 seconds. No before or after care. Wade Aquatic Center have teamed up to bring you the Swim the Bases camp. Campers will participate in group games and activities at the Blue Crabs Stadium and walk over to Donald M. Wade Aquatic Center to enjoy an afternoon of swimming. Participants must be able to swim one width of the pool and tread water for 30 seconds. No before or after care. Resident Fee: $200; Non-Resident: $205 Age 8-13 DM Wade Pool SC M-F Jul 31-Aug 4 8:00a-4:00p Themed Camps Pump It Up's Jump N' Art Camp Campers will spend time exploring their inner artist, laughing, playing games, and bouncing on the state-of-the-art inflatables. Jump-N-Art was developed by a fine-arts education center and emphasizes the joy of self-expression through art. Each day is different as weekly lesson themes keep you engaged. Chefs will make decorated cupcakes, healthy wraps, dipped chocolates, s mores, fun food creations and more. On our final day each chef will be presented with a photo certificate and a graduation spoon. Classes focus on building self-confidence, strength, and concentration. Yoga is a form of exercise and relaxation for both boys and girls that creates a nurturing, non-judgmental, and non-competitive atmosphere. Age 5-12 Henson HE M-Th Jul :00a-Noon FORCE Inspiration Star Wars Camp Use the FORCE of creativity during the Star Wars camp which includes a variety of creative activities to capture your child s imagination and develop their force in a range of Star Wars related activities. Curriculum enables kids to learn to draw their favorite Star Wars characters, act out famous scenes in fun drama sessions, play sports-related Star Wars games, develop skills to spin light sabers, and more to further develop interest and knowledge of Star Wars. 3 Flight Camp Campers are introduced to rockets, remote controlled helicopters, and other things that fly as they learn how to build and launch rockets, navigate RC helicopters, and learn history about things that fly. Participants get to take home their creations. Age 6-14 Henson H1 M-Th Jul :00a-Noon Brick Inspiration Lego Camp Explore science, technology, architecture, engineering, and art using LEGO bricks. Design, build, and light up an entire city of tall buildings, bridges, roads, parks, and railways. Use batteries, bulbs, wires, and switches to bring creations alive. Camp will fire up your child s imagination and spark creativity in the form of inspired play following one of our themed Lego builds coupled with our magical delivery. Curriculum provides an opportunity to design and build LEGO creations working either individually or in groups and participate in challenges, group competitions and free build time towards the end of the camp. Campers will create their own superhero and develop their own superhero identities. Age: 5-12 Port Tobacco PT M-F Aug :00a-Noon Special Needs Camp Camp Co-Op This summer day camp is designed for Charles County Public School students with significant cognitive delay who are receiving special education services. Activities include arts and crafts, swimming, games, sports, life skills, and special field trips. Enrollment is limited to 40 campers per session. Transportation is available from designated pick-up areas based on need. Payment is due at the time of registration. The camp will accept 10 inclusion children per week. Sessions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Campers must be enrolled with Charles County Public Schools. Campers will get instruction and learns skills for vault, trampoline, balance beam, bars, and the outrageous pit. Weekly sessions include a trip to the pool and field trip or special event. Daily activities include creative arts, special events, and organized games. Before and after care available 6:30 am-6 pm. Campers must be minimum age by the first day of camp. Resident Fee: $150; Non-Resident: $155 $40 Before OR After Care $50 Before AND After Care Age 6-14 Elite M-F Jun 19-Aug 25 8:00a-4:00p Rod Milstead Youth Football Camp Join La Plata High School Head Football Coach and former Washington Redskin Rod Milstead and the LPHS coaching staff as they provide instruction on speed and agility drills for both offense and defense positions. This camp will enhance players overall knowledge of the game and improve playing abilities. Campers will participate in morning drills and activities designed to develop muscle memory, speed, and quickness and small sided games in the afternoon. Campers will swim each day. Pads and helmets are not required. Age 9-14 La Plata HS Z1 M-F Jun :00a-4:00p Z2 M-F Jul :00a-4:00p Preschool Gymnastics Mini-Camp This half day camp helps campers develop skills for vault, trampoline, balance beam, bars, and the outrageous pit. Camp includes group games, arts and crafts, and basic gymnastics instruction. Children must be toilet trained. Wrestling can enhance balance, agility, hand-eye coordination, body control, strength, speed, explosiveness, footwork, mental toughness, personal responsibility and focus. Wrestling supports skills necessary in all other sports. Participants are immersed in basic skills, such as serving, passing, setting, and hitting. Camp is designed for beginner to intermediate players and incorporates life lessons such as teamwork and sportsmanship. Campers participate in drills, gamerelated situations, observe demonstrations, and learn from competitive films. 4 Baseball Camp Join La Plata High School Head Baseball Coach John Childers and the coaching staff from the A State Championship Baseball team to learn the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, and position specific play. Campers will participate in morning drills and activities designed to develop muscle memory and small sided games in the afternoon. Campers will swim each day. Skills include: dribbling, passing, finishing, offensive and defensive positioning and tactics. Campers will participate in morning drills and small sided games in the afternoon. Campers swim each day. Age 8-14 Laurel Springs LS M-F Jul :00a-4:00p Sensible Soccer Camp Sensible Soccer is a leading international soccer education and development organization based in the UK. They create and implement innovative, progressive programs at the forefront of today s game, which educate and inspire individuals to achieve their full potential in soccer. The camp provides innovative and creative teaching methods that introduce skill development within a positive learning environment providing players with an exciting and challenging week tailored to their age and abilities. Activities include: quality coaching, fun soccer games, mini soccer tournaments, speed, agility and fitness exercises. Age 5-13 Davis DA M-F Jul :00a-4:00p Future Camp Counselors Counselor-In-Training 2 (CIT) The CIT 2 program will continue to build on skills learned in the CIT program. CIT 2 s will receive training designed to prepare them for employment as a future camp counselor. Training is geared towards enhancing interpersonal and communication skills, leadership training, team building, community service, and personal growth. Successful participants will come away from this program with valuable leadership skills that will serve them at home, in school, and in their own communities. Upon completion of CIT 2, participants will be eligible to volunteer in recreation programs throughout the year. Resident Fee: $300; Non-Resident: $325 Grade Port Tobacco P1 Training M-F Jun :00a-4:00p Job Shadowing M-F Jun :00a-4:00p Counselor-In-Training (CIT) The CIT summer camp program is a two week training program designed to offer young adults an opportunity to train and prepare for positions as camp counselors, managers, or recreation leaders. Participants will receive special training in what it takes to be a camp counselor by learning teaching technics, going on field trips, working with special needs campers, and becoming CPR and First Aid certified. Participants must possess a genuine interest in working with youth, display high energy and enthusiasm, and display a positive attitude. Once the program has begun, a prorated refund based on participation may be approved if requested in writing and with medical verification. This written request must be received prior to the end of the program. A $10 administrative fee per child per session will be deducted for the total refund, regardless of circumstances, unless the program has been canceled. No refunds will be considered after a program has ended. T-shirt and late pick-up fees are non refundable. Transferred registrations are non-refundable. 7 MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION AUTHORIZATION FORM for Youth Camps in Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DHMH) Center for Healthy Homes and Community Services (CHHCS) (410) Toll Free MD-DHMH ext This form must be completed fully in order for youth camp operators and staff members to administer the required medication or for the camper to self-administer medication. A new medication administration form must be completed at the beginning of each camp season, for each medication, and each time there is a change in dosage or time of administration of a medication. Prescription medication must be in a container labeled by the pharmacist or prescriber. Nonprescription medication must be in the original container with the instructions for use. Nonprescription medication includes vitamins, homeopathic, and herbal medicines. An authorized individual must bring the medication to the camp and give the medication to an adult staff member. 1. 8 SUNSCREEN CONSENT FORM The Office of Environmental Health and Food Protection no longer considers sunscreen a medication requiring a prescriptive order. Appropriate sunscreen use is important to prevent skin damage and skin cancer in children. The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and The Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism encourages the appropriate use of sunscreen during summer activities. At the same time, sunscreen can cause allergic reactions in a small number of children, and parents will need to be involved in decisions regarding sunscreen use for their child. Authorization by parent/guardian is needed in order for your child to apply/use sunscreen. No assistance from staff is necessary. Staff is allowed to assist my child applying sunscreen.
