1 Route 10 Route 10 is an east-west route that provides service from the CSU campus to Fort Collins High School and the office park along Midpoint Drive. The route operates year round, Monday through Saturday from 6:18 AM till 6:40 PM on 60-minute headways. Eastbound vehicles depart the CTC, travel along Laurel for several blocks before heading south onto Remington and past the Old Fort Collins High School. The bus then travels east on Prospect past Lesher Junior High and Teledyne Water-Pik before making a loop through the office parks east of Timberland Drive. The bus then continues south along Timberline to Fort Collins High School. The inbound (eastbound) trip returns along the same route as the westbound trip without making the loop in the business park east of Timberland. Ridership Type The majority of riders (nearly 60%) on Route 10 are youths under the age of 18. This percentage is high when compared to the system-wide average for youths of about 29%. Service to and from Fort Collins High School is one of the key factors for high youth ridership, but high school students ride only during limited hours. Also, compared with all the routes that serve the CSU campus, Route 10 has the lowest percentage of CSU student riders (about 14%). 2 Connections to Other Routes Passengers on Route 10 can make direct transfers to all other routes in the system except Route 8, the South Side Shuttle and the Fox Trot. Transfers to routes 2,3,4,6,7 and 11 can be made at the CSU Transit Center and are all scheduled to arrive within a few minutes of each other to allow for transfers. Passengers can also transfer to Route 1 (at College and Laurel), Route 5 (at Prospect and Lemay) and Route 9 (at Riverside and Prospect). While transfers are not timed between these routes, passengers can make a tight transfer to Route 5 and wait minutes for transfers to Routes 1 and 9. Ridership For 1999, annual ridership on Route 10 was 61,380. This translates to a productivity of about 16 passengers per hour. While Route 10 is not the least productive route, it is well below the average productivity of 26 passengers per hour for the entire system. Boardings by Stop (Figure 4-38 and Figure 4-39) Key stop locations for Route 10 (shown in Figures 4-38 and 4-39 below) are based on data collected on Wednesday, November 10, For westbound trips, Fort Collins High School, Timberline at Vermont (also near FCHS), and Prospect at La Plata (near Teledyne Water-Pik) represent the predominant boarding locations. For eastbound trips, the CSU Transit Center is the predominant boarding location with other key stops at Prospect and Stover, and Prospect Parkway and Midpoint. 5 On-Time Performance On-time performance data was collected for Route 10 on Wednesday, November 10, The only eastbound segment that experienced noteworthy delays was between Prospect Parkway and the Timberline/Drake stop. Westbound buses experienced fewer on-time performance problems, although two runs on the segment between the Remington/Lake stop and Laurel/Howes experienced delays more than five minutes. Overall, of 12 eastbound runs, the bus arrived late at selected timepoints on two runs and early on five runs. Of 13 westbound runs, the bus arrived late at selected timepoints on two runs and early on four. Driver Comments Overloaded during one or two trips in the morning and in the afternoon. Particularly busy at Timberline and Prospect. Otherwise, Route 10 is underused: sometimes there are no riders on the bus. Ridership would likely increase if it went to the mall. There is NO reason to run this route on Saturdays. The South Side Shuttle can serve some of the runs, though you have to transfer to go east. This route primarily connects the High School with those students who live west of Lemay. Aside from a full bus, there's really not much activity on Timberline.
