Approved: Yes Announcements: J&M is currently out of glow fuel. More on the way. Treasurer s Report: Dave S presented his report. The AMA Charter and Certificate of Insurance have been renewed. A copy of the COI will be going to the Ramseys. 1

2 Membership Committee Report: The club is currently at 90 adult members and 7 juniors. Safety Committee Report: There s been at least three occasions in the last month of the gate being left unlocked. Also remember to loop in the fire department s red lock for emergency access. Wear your badges. No Badge = No Fly. Field Maintenance Report: Greg H and Bruce C replaced the zip ties on the shade structure with parachute cord. Thanks to Greg and Bruce. Flight Instructors: Nothing new to report. Old Business: We need an update from Bruce on the search for a new weather station. New Business: : In the latest newsletter, there was a request to send out an to the membership with the club roster. It will not be posted in the newsletter. It will only include the member s name and . The will also include a caveat that the list only be used for club or RC related communications. No solicitations. If you have any objections or wish to opt out to having your name and sent out to the club membership, please contact Brian Chan. Contest Reports/Upcoming Events: 1) Los Banos Scale Aerotow Slope Event (Gliders) is this weekend (4/22 & 4/23) at the Los Banos Creek Reservoir. 2) The FliteTest.com FliteFest West is the following week (4/27-4/30) at the Solano Valley Fairgrounds in Vallejo. 3) Castle Giant Scale Fly-In at Castle Airport in Atwater is May Hits and Misses or SAD stories: Nothing to report. Show and Tell: 1) Konrad D showed three items: A) several EDFs and motors to show the progression of EDFs to higher blade count fan units, B) Guillows Aeronca Champion converted to full function RC, and C) A carbon fuselage motor glider he got from Northeast Sailplanes to demonstrate the need for Rx antenna diversity when installing 2.4 GHz in carbon fuselages. 2)Eric E brought in his completed Schwing 88 composite glider. He won the kit in a raffle at Davenport slope race. He plans to maiden it this weekend at Los Banos. 3)Jeff O presented his Dave Aircraft Works (DAW) Schweizer 1-26 foam slope glider. 4)Dave S also showed a DAW model, but an Me-109 combat sloper. 3 FUN AT THE LOS BANOS SCALE GLIDER EVENT Jake Chichilitti The official event starts on Saturday and ends on Sunday. But for my friend Ken and I it started on Wednesday. Ken bought a stand up van last year and it is perfect for loading model airplanes. Lots of model airplanes. I brought seven and Ken had way more than that. I took a picture of the back of the van and that is just Ken's stuff. I accessed my planes from the side door. So convenient. Friday came and the winds were o.k. to break out our floaters. I flew my Bird of Time a lot that day and the lift cycled up and down most of the day. Somewhat of a challenge to remain aloft for any length of time. One of the photos shows Ken launching my Bird of Time. Photo taken by Martin Vargas. We left on Wednesday morning and stopped in Morgan Hill to visit the wife of a good friend who had passed away. She was glad to see us and is just as alert as ever. We went right to the hill after having lunch and we were glad we did. The winds were so good we left the floaters in the van and were able to fly our aerobatic stuff. What a way to start off the trip. We got to the site early on Thursday and the winds were still good. We practically had the entire flying site to ourselves. We brought our lunch and flew until dinner time. Ken launches Jake's Bird of Time off the slope. On Saturday we drove up to the flying site and it was packed with cars and trailers. 21 Pilots registered to fly their giant scale gliders. The wind was calm most of the day and that made it perfect for aero-towing, which is what the event is really all about. There were three large tow planes and I took a picture of the biggest one. Scott with Bidule 3.48m(137 inch) span. It has a 170 CC CA gasoline engine with dual canister exhausts and a three-blade prop and was extremely quiet. The Glider has a 17 foot wingspan and was easily towed to altitude. 3

6 HILLER BIGGEST LITTLE AIRSHOW Larry Smith Hiller Aviation Museum's Biggest Little Air Show is scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd, PCC club members are welcome to participate! If you wish to static display your aircraft, please arrive before 10 AM and park on the south side of the building to gain access to the pit area. If you plan to do any demo flying, you must attend a 9 AM safety briefing in the Doyle conference room. Note that all flying activity is coordinated by Dan Deweese from Baylands R/C group (LOS drone racing, giant scale, smoke systems, 3D helicopters, turbine jets, and novelty aircraft are especially welcome)! Hiller Museum is located at 601 Skyway Rd., San Carlos, Larry does a lot of volunteer work at the museum, and he will be at the May PCC meeting. He will have more information available. 7 SLOPE FLYING AT DEL VALLE Brian Chan On May 6th, SAM 21 had an one-design contest at LFE(Livermore Flying Electrons) but the weather God decided it was ot ging to happen! The wind was over 15 mph at the LFERC field. Since we (Gary Leopold, Ken Martinez, Dave Santana and I)were in Livermore, we decided to head to the local slope to salvage a lost day! Ken's Zaggie is "up"! The slope location at Del Valle Regional Park. Dave's Eclipse is flying too! The site is right off the road. Caution must be exercised. Ken is waiting for the perfect moment to launch. Gary, Ken and Dave! After we flew at the slope, lunch (very important) followed. And we went back to the LFE field, the wind was calm enough to fly. We all made 10 minutes+ flights with our Benny Boxcars! We had a great day! 7
