Membership in the international body is a prerequisite for chapter membership. Local chapter dues are $12.00 per year. Membership entitles you to receive our monthly newsletter Ponti-Yakkin, free personal car/parts for sale/ wanted ads, inclusion in club sponsored events and voting rights on chapter issues. Members are encouraged to submitted articles for use in the newsletter. All materials are subject to approval, editing, and space limitations. To submit ads, articles, or request information please call one of the above listed club members or contact us at: SCTC Pontiac-Oakland Club PO Box San Antonio, TX By Prez Alfred Flores May 06 Lots to do & short time to do it The show is a go As many of you may know, our planning for our annual club show has had some setbacks. Our show coordinators are doing their best with the obstacles put before them and I m confident our show will be a success. If you have not attended a recent meeting, I would encourage you to come by and get caught up on the planning for this years show. I have been approached by some members willing to help with whatever is needed and really appreciate the gestures. We should have a volunteer sheet ready for anyone wanting to help with duties the day of our show. You will probably notice that some members will be signed up for multiple tasks and encourage others to do the same and evenly distribute the help. Your help in securing sponsors will be needed again this year. If you know of a business that would like to be involved with our show, we will have a form letter available to help answer any questions they may have about sponsorship. John Medeiros has once again planned our annual show and shine at the World Car GM dealership in New Braunfels. This year he has planned it for Saturday May 27. We have typically met up at the Sam s Club parking lot on Judson & IH-35 and cruise in together and this has always been a fun event. The dealership has offered a free oil change for any participant the day of the show and they usually provide a nice lunch in the afternoon. Please note this will be on Memorial Day weekend and hope to have a great turnout of Pontiacs as usual. For the Drag racers in our club, Raul Pena, Dave Pelzel, and Gary Zinda will be organizing a Pontiac Day at San Antonio Raceway in Marion on Friday June 9 at 7:00 pm. Our event is on the Racetrack web site and some Pontiac owners from the surrounding areas have already been enquiring about this event. We will have more details about this event at our meeting on rules, classes, and time scheduling. Prez s words - Continured on Pg 2

Candace Rauschuber Our President, Alfred Flores, called the meeting to order at 7 PM. 2 guests were introduced: Charles with a 77 trans am and Clifford with a 67 firebird (for sale). The secretary s report was approved and accepted as printed in the newsletter. Jeff Butz gave the Treasurer s Report. Old Business It s membership renewal time please see Jeff Butz to submit your dues. Frank, Penny, Ken, and his wife are taking charge of our club car show for this year. The show is still scheduled for Sept 16 th ; though the location had to be changed. It was then motioned and approved to move it to Seguin. Sept 23 rd is still reserved for a rain day. It was voted to sponsor 2 charities equally: the Seguin Activity Center which helps local youths, and the Fisher House for Veterans which coordinates private support for furnished homes near medical centers where military and veterans families can stay while a loved one is receiving care. It was voted and approved for the club to go to World Car in New Prez s words - Cont. from Pg 1 As you can see, our club is organizing events for the different tastes of our membership and it takes your participation to make it a success. We try to plan depending on participation so please contact me or any of the event organizers if you plan to be part of our events. I hope to see a full house at Mama s on Tuesday May 9. See you there! Braunfels on May 27 th for a show and shine. That is the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. New Business The POCI convention is in California this year, and Jay and a few others plan to attend. However, next year the convention will be in Oklahoma, and our president would like to organize for much of the club to go. Specifics will come later; this was only brought up to gauge interest. Alfred will organize a club night out at the Mission Drive-In move to come later. Recent Past Events Saturday March 18 th Tech day at Ken Henn s place at Canyon Lake was a great time; Thanks to the Henns! Sunday March 26 th (rain date) Bandera Bowl open car show put on by the Chevy club Jay attended and judged. Saturday March 25 th AACOG cruise, only Pontiacs were Ralph and Ken. Note: Our monthly club meetings are wrapped up with a cash prize drawing at the end. $1 tickets are sold and 50% of the total collected is donated back to the club fund and last month Jeff Butz won and donated the full amount back to the club fund. Thanks for the donation Jeff! Saturday March 25 th Goatfest picnic in LBJ park was great with around 60 cars! Great time had by all that attended. March 24 th 26 th Amalie Nationals at the San Antonio Raceway in Marion considered fantastic by those that attended. Quality drag cars. April 7 th Pontiac Day at the Racetrack organized by Raul and Gary. All attended had a great time. Plan on another one, even bigger, on June 9 th. $20 a car. Sunday April 9 th Randolph AFB car show was attended by 7 members; with 3 placing. Upcoming Events Sunday April 23 rd Reata GM Car show in Castroville over 100 cars already registered. April rd New Braunfels swap meet at Comal Co Fairgrounds. April 22 nd Chevy Corvette Club show in Boerne. Saturday April 29 th is Cruise night at Louie LeDeaux s restaurant in the Forum. April 30 th Pig Stand Swap meet (every last Sunday of the month) May 8 th AACOG spring cruise Reminder: the Club Picnic for this year will be Sunday, May 21 st at Blanco State Park. 4 May 06 Ponti-Yakkin page 4 Spring AACOG Cruise a winner The STOC will meet at the Botanical Gardens, 555 Funston Place (North New Braunfels and Funston) at This is a great opportunity to enjoy the excitement of the beginning of our adventure with other car enthusiasts so don t be late. We ll enjoy some camaraderie before we form our caravan for a 0830 departure. Depart Botanical gardens at 0830 Arrive Floresville at 0930 The Floresville Chamber of commerce will have a special hospitality stop with snacks, drinks and entertainment at their Market Days on Courthouse Square. Last year lots of friendly folks enjoyed the impromptu car show we provided and were very hospitable. Depart Floresville at 1015 Arrive Helena 1100 The old Karnes County Courthouse Museum complex will be open. A must see is the John Ruckman house which was constructed in 1878 of Florida cypress brought to the site via sailing vessel and wagon and mule team. This home is under restoration and is well worth a look. Many antiquities are on display a personal favorite is the piano and the story behind it! Also, be sure to note the carved eagle by the gate near the front of the home. The home is a short walk behind the facilities we will be parked at. A BBQ lunch is available for $6 per plate. We will have our monthly STOC meeting while enjoying lunch at approximately Depart Helena at 1215 This is the long leg of our journey so be sure you are gassed up and rest-roomed out. We will drive rugged country as we pass through Karnes City, Coy City, Fashing, and Cambellton en route to Pleasantown. Arrive Pleasantown at 1:30 Visit the Birthplace of the Cowboy. Longhorn museum will be open and serving cold drinks to cruise participants and the Chamber of commerce will be serving cookies and providing souvenirs. Depart Pleasantown at 2:10 Arrive Poteet 2:30 Hospitality stop at the Poteet winery. Tour the winery and enjoy the windmill display. Depart Poteet as desired for return to home. A good law - lower taxes By David B. Traver Adolphus, Pending in Vermont Legislature under the golden dome in Montpelier is an odd little piece of legislation, H. 157, An Act Relating To Purchase And Use Taxation Of Restored Antique Vehicles. The bill would amend the motor vehicle purchase and use tax with respect to taxation of antique motor vehicles by providing that the taxable cost of such motor vehicles shall not include the cost of restoration of the vehicle. H. 157 would change the Vermont statutes to state that the taxable cost of a restored antique motor vehicle shall be the original purchase price paid by the person who first restores the vehicle to operable condition, and not its resale value. This should be model legislation for the rest of the country. (Hint write your state reps) Flathead Reunion II By Richard Lentinello, Pontiac Flathead Reunion II In September, Pontiacs powered by flathead engines will be invited to attend the second annual Flathead Reunion. This all-pontiac event will be held in Zanesville, Ohio, on September 7-9, at the Holiday Inn located on Route 40 and Interstate 70. The gathering is put on by the Early Times Chapter of the Pontiac-Oakland Club International. All Pontiac models are welcome, pre-war or post-war, sedans or convertibles, restored or unrestored. Attack of the Clones Continues By George Mattar, More and more people are cloning muscle cars these days, and why not? Big money is changing hands even for a fake. At auction in Oklahoma, a General Lee clone of the now famous 1969 orange Dodge Charger sold for $28,500, a cloned 1968 Charger R/T sold for $11,700 and a 1969 Yenko Camaro clone crossed the block for $29,000. We remember when $7,500 would buy a perfect, REAL 1969 Yenko car! A guy in Florida has even cloned a 1977 Can Am from a 1977 LeMans. Made only one year, Pontiac took a standard Le Mans, put a Trans Am hood on it, some stripes and pirated a custom steering wheel from the Grand Prix. Funny thing is, the clone car does not appear to be white-the only color offered for this one-year-only wonder. We don t know how much the cloned Can Am brought at auction, but it s amazing what people will pay these days. The Truth about Tools HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer is now used as a kind of divining rod to locate expensive parts not far from the object we are trying to hit. PLIERS: Used to round off bolt heads. VISE-GRIPS: Used to round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand. OXYACETYLENE TORCH: Used almost entirely for lighting various flammable objects in your garage on fire. DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your coffee across the room, splattering it against that freshly painted part you were drying. WIRE WHEEL: Cleans rust off old bolts and then throws them somewhere under the workbench with the speed of light. Also removes fingerprint and hard-earned guitar calluses in about the time it takes you to say, Ouc... TWEEZERS: A tool for removing wood splinters. E-Z OUT BOLT AND STUD EXTRACTOR: A tool that snaps off in bolt holes and is ten times harder than any known drill bit.
