Immediately after the earthquake that struck at 13:41, for the assessment of the situation, Primary Teams have been deployed to the field, from the Van, Elazığ, Muş and Erzurum Disaster Management Centers and Turkish Red Crescent Branches. Information flow from the field has been gathered in the Crisis Desk of the Disaster Operation Center SHELTER ACTIVITIES: 2. TURKISH RED CRESCENT ACTIVITIES In order to cover the emergency sheltering needs of the affected population, tents, blankets, sleeping bags and heaters have been dispatched in the first phase. A total of 4 Tent Cities and 2 Mevlana House Cities have been established with 3 Tent Cities and 1 Mevlana House City in the Erciş District of the Van Province, 1 Tent City and 1 Mevlana House City in the Van Province Center respectively. Additionally, tents and Mevlana houses are being distributed to the people living in the affected villages. Page 2

Turkish Red Crescent has distributed tents and Mevlana Houses and provided shelter for beneficiaries, by 6 November Page 3
4 PLANNED ACTIVITES Set-ups of the Mevlana Houses are in progress. The Tent City in Van City Province which was established in the first day of the disaster, later the tents were taken away by the beneficiaries, is being re-established NUTRITION ACTIVITIES 3 time hot meal is being provided daily by the 6 cook of the Turkish Red Crescent, in the field of the Yenişehir Stadium. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is being provided in the kitchen and also considering the low temperature, hot soup is being provided some nights. Daily Bread is being provided by the Mobile Bakery Vehicle of the Turkish Red Crescent in the Yenişehir Stadium. For 6 November, beneficiaries are provided with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. In addition, in the tent cities and for the workers in the field, meal and hot drinks are being provided with the Mobile Catering Vehicles of the Turkish Red Crescent. 5 Grand Total of Produced Bread piece PLANNED ACTIVITIES Hot meal distribution and bread production of the mobile bakery vehicle will continue PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT ACTIVITIES Informative meetings with adolescents on disasters psychosocial effects and how to cope with them, games and painting activities with children were organized in psychosocial tents set in Yenişehir Stadium and Belediye Stadium Tent Cities. Children, who highly need support were identified and contacted with by the child psychiatrists through surveillance. Information meetings on children s reaction in post-disaster period and how to help them were organized for women. Participated in psychosocial support services coordination meeting in Erciş Crisis Desk and gave information on the ongoing activities. PLANLANNED ACTIVITIES Establishing a common needs assessment form for the psychosocial support activities were decided on in Erciş crisis centre. Needs assessments in tent cities will be through this forms. Fun activities with children are planned under religious aid activities VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITIES Community leaders like teachers and religious leaders, who were trained during the Turkish Red Crescent s Organizing the Community Leaders Project, are also being used. Religious officers and leaders cooperated with the Turkish Red Crescent personnel on setting up prayer tents and placing burial rituals and a religious ritual for those, who lost their lives as a result of the earthquake. Consisting of 12 teachers, 2 field delegates, 13 religious leaders, a total number of 27 community leaders continue their activities Volunteers comprised of OCL Volunteers, scouts and University groups have done the activities like food distributions, cleaning up and psycho-social support in the tent city. 6 PLANLANNED ACTIVITIES Planning for distribution of goods in the depots of Erciş Team Presidency within the city and the most damaged villages were made. Distribution of identity cards will be made to the beneficiaries in 100. Yıl Tent City BLOOD SERVICES ACTIVITIES Following devastating earthquake, TRC s Regional Blood Center based in Van communicated immediately with hospitals in the affected area and created additional stocks of blood in the Hospitals. Level of blood stocks was heightened with the transportation of 350 units of blood, especially of negative blood group from Erzurum Regional Blood Center one hour after the earthquake. After the re-opening of the airport, a total stock of 18,000 units of erythrocyte suspension was sent to Van from other regional blood centers for the purpose of stock replenishment. Stocks of blood have been continuously replenished when they fall below 800 units. Erzurum and Ankara Regional Blood Centres are also creating additional blood stocks for the replenishment of stocks in the affected areas in case of need. Turkish Red Crescent is selfsufficient to cover the blood requirements of the health institutions upon their request. The quantity of blood which has been sent to hospitals in the region and blood usage in the period between 23 October and 31 October is indicated in the chat below. For the transportation of the relief items to the region, 499 Lorry and Truck have been deployed. 57 Air Shipment has been done so far and still in progress. OTHER ACTIVITIES A campaign for the Aid of Sacrifice was started. Additionally preparation works on Long Term Projects that are planned to be conducted with the agencies and institutes that want to help region.
