There will be a group dinner celebration on the evening of Saturday, August 16. The Vermont adventure will be a joint event with Trailsweepers incorporating their annual bicycling weekend. Film Night at Tanglewood August 2. Concert starts at 8:30. Gates open at 4:30 for tailgating. Bring a lawn chair and your crystal candelabra for a night of great music and favorite film clips with the Symphony providing the background music under the direction of John Williams. Tickets are $22 and can be purchased on site. The Tanglewood Shed is a lovely setting with good visibility of large screens and an excellent sound system. Bike & Pool Party Saturday, July 19 (July 20 Rain date) at the home of Claudette Hennessy Meet at Claudette's at 9 AM for coffee, drive to the approximately 20 mile bike ride around the Wallkill Valley. Pool party, volleyball starts at noon. Bring a dish to share, BYOB. Soft drinks, plates, etc. and a grill are provided. Directions: From the Mid-Hudson Bridge, go south on Route 9W to Marlboro, turn left on Old Post Road across from the Village Square Mall. From the Newburgh Beacon Bridge, north on Route 9W and right on Old Post Road. Claudette's is the 7th house on the left (#404 with mailboxes on a wagon wheel). Projects range from light gardening, bridge painting, light carpentry to heavy stone work creating a stone stairs at the trail entrance off Stormville Mtn Road. There is plenty of room for overnight camping at the RPH Cabin on Hortontown Road. Food is always a big item for this event and that weekend is a primary time for AT through hikers to pass through Dutchess County on their way North to Maine. Many hikers spend a day contributing to the work weekend projects and enjoy the food that is prepared at the RPH Cabin by the volunteers. Music in the Park at Vanderbilt and Mills Mansions Join us for any or all of the free Music in the Park concerts every Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. starting June 4th. We will gather at The Vanderbilt Mansion Vanderbilt Mansion under the tallest tree on the left of the seating area approx. 80 ft. from the Mansion for music and snacks. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. We'll look for you if we know you're coming. Leave message at or just show up. On the nights it's held at Mills Mansion, we'll meet on the left side of the stage at the bottom of the hill. 7 HVSC Page Kayaking Schedule Things to remember: Let s get ready for some fun and adventure this year with the launch of the kayak schedule. 1. Working kayak/canoe. 2. Paddle, life vest, spray skirt, water, snacks, camera. 3. Proper clothes for the weather, gloves, hat, and anything else you might need. Dates, places, times, and description for remaining trips are noted below. Trips are usually a go if it is sunny, cloudy, or a little bit of rain. They are cancelled if weather is not conducive to paddling! June 29 6 am Thimble Islands Connecticut Meet at New Paltz Park & Ride on Route 9W at 6 am. Paddle in Long Island Sound near Guilford, CT. Easy Aug am Cold Springs, NY-- kayak launch Head south on the Hudson River to Constitution Marsh Easy Sept am Dutchman s Landing Park Catskill, NY Meet at park. Up the creek with a paddle ; possible Ramshorn Sanctuary. Easy Oct am Cheviot Park near Germantown, NY. Paddle and then end of season picnic. Bring chairs. Easy An overnight trip exploring the Thimble Islands on the Long Island Sound on June 29 is planned. If there is enough interest and weather conditions are positive, the trip is a go. This trip is for the hearty willing to paddle several hours a day. You may just paddle one day (Sunday) and then go home or you may stay until Monday and paddle that day as well. If you plan to stay overnight, let Yvonne know so that she can book a motel or campsite.
