19 Page 19 Pac-On Ferry Terminal Ferry Terminal Pac-On Taipa ferry terminal, after it was announced that it would be operable in the second quarter is now subject to further delay. The head of the Infrastructure Development Office (GDI), Chan Hon Kit, said that they are striving to finish the construction by the end of the year. He claimed that various factors have led to further postponement of the completion. There are several reasons behind the delay. Some are related to the contractor, others are because of weather and some other issues, Mr. Chan said. He said that GDI will conduct an overall analysis into the delay and find out who the liable parties are. We are going to deal with [those accountable] according to the law. The GDI head stressed that the project s budget has not increased despite the delay. It still remains at around MOP 3.2 Billion. The construction of the terminal started in 2005 and was expected to finish in Later, the date of completion was pushed to mid However, GDI then claimed that the terminal would be operable in the second quarter. (Ref. 4)

20 Page 20 Light Rapid Transit Light Rapid Transit Secretary for Transport and Public Works Lau Si Io has announced that the Macau government will consult the public regarding the Light Rapid Transit s (LRT) Macau section, on the condition that it will not affect the progress of public tendering. Lau Si Io said that he would introduce the LRT plan to the Legislative Assembly this Friday. After that, the government will consider whether to conduct a public consultation. For the LRT section on Avenida 24 de Junho, we will do some community or professional consultations ( ) There will also be a public consultation [on the Northeastern segment] of the LRT s Macau section. The secretary said that the government would strive to carry out the different stages of public tendering for the LRT s Macau section by the end of the year. He stressed that the LRT project will observe the principles of starting construction as soon as possible and putting public money in good use. He also refused to comment on the popular opinion that it is not good Feng Shui for the LRT to travel pass the front of the Kun Iam Statue. (Ref. 5) Picture above shows the first sections being laid which is in close vicinity to the airport.
