1 The Middle East s Premier Conference and Exhibition for Lighting Design and Technology 2011 Post Show Report The 6th edition of Light Middle East was held from 12th 14th September 2011 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre. 150 exhibitors from 12 countries made their way to the UE to support their current sales in the Middle East and create new business opportunities in this promising region. The inauguration of the exhibition was honoured by His Excellency Saeed l Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water uthority ( DEW) visitors from 80 countries visited the show to find specific products or services, to meet with the potential suppliers and to be up-to-date with new products and trends. The conference programmes that run alongside the show reported successful results with the 172 delegates participation. 2 Decision-makers and influencers were the bulk of the visitor group 90% of the visitors at Light Middle East 2011 were decision-makers and influencers. 4 Conference Programme ttended by 172 delegates, the 2011 conference featured 2 days of conferences and one day of various workshops, lectured by a host of international experts in the lighting and green technology industries. Dr. Linda Nubani, Managing Director of Mazari Consultants, led the student competition. The competition was exclusively sponsored by GE Lighting. Competition Categories: 1) Energy Lighting pplication: The winner of the category was Sara Yousef Kamel from the Interior Design Department of merican University in Dubai. 2) Façade Lighting: The winner of the category was Soheil nsari from the rchitecture Department of merican University in Dubai. The winners won flight tickets to Frankfurt including 2 nights hotel stay to visit Light+uilding in pril 2012, including a visit to the GE Lighting stand at the show. 5 Testimonials Our first foray into the region has been successful so far as a lot of people are interested in our range of LED products. We have had people from the entire lighting community visit our stand including OEMs, end-users, contractors, installers and agents. We leave Light Middle East with new opportunities and a refreshed appreciation for our customers. We are sure to return next year too. We are very glad that the customers are asking the right questions to compare apple with apple. For this the conference was great because it benefits the visitors as it helps them to have a filter on the reality of what they re being told. Compared to previous years, there s more visitors from outside the GCC Qatar and Saudi have particularly become more prominent and we are seeing real interest now for quality lighting. People are not looking at costs but at the investment. They know they will get a return by using our products. ll the new products we launched at Light Middle East such as Styled street lighting have met with great success. We are displaying a range of new products into the market including the new LED lights currently being used in the rmani Café at urj Khalifa. We expect a good response from the regional market, Gareth Jackson, Sales Director, Emerging Markets, OSRM GmbH It s going very well and a lot of customers are very much interested in our LED technology as well as the control systems for both indoor and outdoor that we are showcasing, especially from ministries from across the region, which is great. Maurizio Fabbrini, Marketing Manager, MEN region, Thorn Lighting We are very happy to be part of Light Middle East, as we were able to display our latest technology and expertise in commercial lighting, sports lighting and architectural lighting. We met with trade and business visitors to discuss the commercial lighting and sports lighting ranges that developed from the philosophy of providing low energy lighting solutions in the most practical manner. Ms. Sue Goldberg, Managing Director, pollo Lighting People have been visiting my stand that require lighting for trading purposes. In the Middle East they are ready to take the initiative to integrate their lighting with solar powered lighting. We have had a lot of visitors from frica and got good leads from Syria, Oman and Saudi rabia. We would definitely come back. Shahzad Qaiser, Manager, PTL Solar Promoting student talent with a focus on promoting aesthetics and energy savings in lighting is central to GE s approach for the region. The GE est in Class Lighting Competition contributed several compelling designs and energy saving options, which draw on the diverse array of lighting options provided by GE Lighting. The creativity and innovation demonstrated by the students are of high standards and through the competition; we hope to encourage them further. We have met mostly electrical suppliers and designers from all over the Emirates as well as Qatar and Saudi rabia and also from India.
