4 ACTIVITIES/ATTRACTIONS When flying to Australia, the foreign traveller is most likely to arrive in Sydney. The airport is located to the South of the city in Botany Bay, where Cook originally arrived. This bay was originally intended as the place for the city Sydney, but the subsequent fleet found an even more beautiful spot in Jackson Harbour: there where the Opera House and the Sydney Bridge are located. And that is probably where you want to go after you arrive deadly tired in Sydney. It has been a long flight -- from where-ever you came from. Change some money on the airport and then jump in a cab. And let it drive you to your hotel 'downtown' (in the 'city' they say here). It's going to cost you approximately $35 Australian dollars ($23 US). You can also take the yellow-green airport-to-city buses, if you want to save money. The Rocks - This is the area where the first settlement in Sydney took place. When you walk across the area, you can see old mansions and museums such as the Colonial House Museum. The rocks area is a link with the Colonial past of Sydney with many of the original warehouses still being used some as resturants others as markets or offices. As it adjoins the harbour you can relax overlooking the harbour or strole around the many shops and points of interest. Darling Harbour - On the western side, you can visit this leisure park and the shopping centre. Although you might expect it to sail off any second because of the whitesail like roofs, the opera house is there and will make a lasting impression. Try to watch a performance at the Opera House. Address: Western part of Sydney Sydney Harbour - The harbour site offers everything ranging from beaches, to islands and playgrounds for all sorts off activities. No.1 Harbour city in the world! Where else can you be right in the middle of the city with deep water moorings, yachating, cruising, or working in a mild temperate climate all year round? The Harbour bridge you can climb the joins both North and South of the city is a great attraction and carries the life blood of the city. The Zoo can be accessed by water or road overlooking the harbour or continue further to Manly or other of the Northern beaches agian by ferry or road. The best city!
