2 1. Art Gallery of NSW The Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) was established in 1897 and is the most important public gallery in Sydney and the fourth largest in Australia. Admission is free to the general exhibition space, which features Australian (from settlement to contemporary), European and Asian art Art Gallery Road, The Domain, Sydney 2. Bondi Beach Located approximately 9kms from Sydney s city centre this is Australia s most famous beach offering surf, sand, cafes and coastal walks. Bondi Markets are open every Sunday from 10am until 4pm. Bondi Beach 3. Cadman's Cottage Cadman's Cottage was built in 1816 and was originally known as Coxswain's barracks. It is Sydney's oldest surviving house. The stone building was built for the Coxswain and crew, the Coxswain being the person in charge or command of the boats. The Coxswain ran the fleet of official government boats that were crewed by convicts. Built on the foreshore of Sydney Harbour (near The Rocks) the barracks was cut into a natural rock shelf and had a small sandy beach in the front. Today, however the cottage is well set back from the water's edge due to land reclamations. The plain Georgian design was copied from English pattern books George St, The Rocks 4. Circular Quay Dixon Street, Haymarket Circular Quay is the hub of Sydney Harbour, situated at a small inlet called Sydney Cove, the founding site for Sydney and Australia. It is a stepping-off point for most attractions based around the harbour and an exciting place to be on a warm summer's day.

3 The quay is a vibrant, bustling place with ferries leaving every few minutes to different parts of the harbour, including Manly, Mosman and Taronga Park Zoo. There are great views of the Harbour Bridge, a short distance away. On the southern side of Circular Quay is a walkway that leads to the Sydney Opera House and Royal Botanical Gardens; while on the northern side, a short walk along lovely landscaped walkways takes you to the Harbour Bridge and The Rocks, one of the oldest, most attractive and most interesting parts of Sydney. Circular Quay is at the foot of the central business district and the older, historic end of the city. Buses depart here for Bondi and the eastern suburbs. There is a major railway station at the quay, which is part of the underground City Circle, which skirts around the CBD. Alongside the ferry terminals are a number of small outdoor cafes and the area is a magnet for buskers of every description. 6. Customs House Circular Quay, Sydney Explore one of Sydney's finest Heritage Buildings. Darling Harbour A waterside plaza with parks, shops, restaurants and nightclubs. 8. Hyde Park Darling Harbour, Sydney Hyde Park is the city's central open green space and it was named after the Hyde Park in London, however, its origins are somewhat different. Originally the Park was a racecourse and sporting ground playing host to all manners of competition. Today the only reminder of its early 19th century competitive heritage is the huge playable chess set that features on the western side of the Park. The tranquil setting is popular among office workers who want some fresh air, a quick siesta or some time out from the concrete jungle. The central pathway through the park is an impressive, tiled, fig lined road linking two of the parks other features, the Archibald Fountain and the War Memorial. The War

4 Memorial is a 1934 art deco tribute to the Anzac soldiers who fell in the first world war. The memorial stands 30 metres above the pool of remembrance and there is a photograph exhibition underneath the building. Over the summer months the Park is a hive of activity, particularly during the Festival of Sydney when there is plenty of free entertainment. 9. Macquarie Street This elegant street is lined with many historic sandstone buildings. 10. Museum of Contemporary Art Hyde Park, Sydney Macquarie Street, Sydney The Museum of Contemporary Art (abbreviated MCA) dedicated to exhibiting, interpreting and collecting contemporary art, both from across Australia and around the world. Housed in the Art Decostyle former Maritime Services Board Building on the western edge of Circular Quay, the MCA is one of the youngest of the chief cultural venues in Australia's largest city. Queen Victoria Building Once the home of the city markets, this is now a stunning shopping centre showing off its elaborate Romanesque architecture. The Rocks Farmers Markets The Rocks, Sydney The Farmers Markets operate on a Friday from 9am-4pm, offering delectable food stalls. Wander, sample or shop for flowers, fresh produce and treats such as chocolate or oils, while taking in the chilled out tunes of street buskers. 16. The Rocks Weekend Markets Jack Mundey Place, cnr Argyle & George Sts, The Rocks The Weekend Markets operate from 10am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday. Royal Botanical Gardens Cnr Playfair and George Sts, The Rocks The Royal Botanical Gardens is a lovely place to visit experiencing great views, magnificent trees and shrubs and beautiful birds with the ocean at your side.
