For those adventurous enough, we will transport you across to Moturua Island. You can spend a few hours discovering this beautiful island sanctuary before finding the ideal spot to enjoy the picnic lunch provided. You will then be picked up for transfer back to Otehei Bay. Alternatively, you can set off from Otehei Bay to explore Urupukapuka Island. We will provide you with a picnic lunch. You are then free to hike across the island, taking in spectacular views of the Bay. Revel in the native flora and fauna as you slowly make your way around the island and back to Otehei Bay. For generations it has been home to a wide range of native plants and wildlife, as well as being a relaxed island getaway for local and international visitors. Important visitors would come from all over the world to visit, even as modern New Zealand was still in its infancy. As the popularity of the island grew, so too has the threat to the precious native wildlife and the need to protect them. The islands of Ipipiri (Eastern Bay of Islands) have been pest free since Project Island Song works to keep them that way, you must do your part too. Before you visit these pest free islands, STOP, CHECK your gear for pests and then GO (have fun). Here in Otehei Bay s conservation centre, you can learn all about the island s original natural inhabitants and the ongoing efforts to protect them, as well as the remarkable history of the island.
