1 INDIGENOUS TOURISM CHAMPIONS TRADE FACT SHEETS June 2017

2 Overview The Indigenous Tourism Champions enhance the competitive advantage Indigenous culture offers Australian tourism by building a reputation of reliability and consistent quality in service delivery. The Indigenous Tourism Champions are achieving this by meeting a set of stringent criteria, ensuring that they are able to meet the needs and expectations of trade and the international market. INDIGENOUS TOURISM CHAMPIONS SELECTION CRITERIA > > At least 50% Indigenous owned or marketed as offering a predominantly Indigenous experience which is owned and/or delivered by Indigenous people. > > Running a full time commercial enterprise for at least six months of the year. > > Proactive in the domestic and international marketplace. > > Able to be contacted by phone and and respond within 24 hours. > > Booking mechanisms in place. > > Have a website maintained with current information. > > Produce yearly domestic and inbound rate sheets. > > Work cooperatively with TA, STOs and RTOs. > > Have a strong understanding of customer service environment. > > Hold current relevant licences and insurances. > > Have a current business plan which they are operating in accordance with, that is reviewed annually. > > Have a customer relationship database in operation. Some experiences profiled in this booklet are stamped as Aboriginal Owned. ABORIGINAL OWNED The experiences identified as Aboriginal Owned are offered by businesses which are at least 50 per cent Aboriginal owned. The terms Aboriginal and Indigenous are used interchangeably in this document. The term Aboriginal is more commonly used in Tourism Australia s global marketing communications due to higher international recognition and association with Australia, though should be assumed to include Torres Strait Islanders where relevant. Non-Indigenous owned businesses also need to demonstrate that they: > > Have an Indigenous employment strategy in place. > > Have a demonstrated long term partnership and/or are endorsed by relevant Indigenous custodians, families or community spokesperson(s). The Indigenous Tourism Champions collective enables TA to confidently market the Champions to increase awareness and improve perceptions of the quality and diversity of Indigenous tourism experiences on offer in Australia. Tourism Australia intensively promotes the Champions through a range of trade marketing activities.
