4 3 1. WEST BENGAL In West Bengal, 8 extension programmes were conducted during October 2017 as per the details given below. The aim of the training was to introduce various value added fishery products to the fishers and to equip them to prepare those products in a hygienic manner. NETFISH arranged all the ingredients, vegetables, fish, prawn etc. and hired necessary utensils and accessories for conducting the training programme. The SCO demonstrated the preparation of various value added fishery products such as fish ball, fish pickle, prawn pickle, breaded butterfly shrimp, breaded stretched shrimp, fish pakora etc. All the trainees were engaged in preparation of the said products and they were trained to make butterfly cut and stretch shrimp during the programme. The details of ingredients and recipe for each product in

5 4 Bengali language were also given to them. The member NGO- Sarboday Sangha- supported NETFISH for arranging the programme. Each day s training was attended by 30 selected net menders from Paradeep and thus in total 60 net menders were benefitted by the 2 programmes. Hands on training on conversion of existing diamond mesh nets to square meshed cod ends was given by dividing the trainees in to 3 groups under each CIFT person. First the trainees were shown how to convert current diamond mesh net to

6 square mesh ones and afterwards each group was given pieces of diamond

Among the 60 trainees, we have selected 5 master trainees who will be

More than 500

13 12 volunteers took part in the event and removed tons of plastic wastes from the lake and disposed them safely. From 10 th to 15 th October 2017, NETFISH along with Kochi Regional Division of MPEDA participated in the Science and Technology Exhibition held at St. Michael's College, Cherthala, in connection with Golden Jubilee of the college. Various posters depicting information related to sustainable fishing were set up in the stall and leaflets related to fish quality management and conservation were distributed to the visitors.
