4 South China Sea It is a marginal sea that is part of the Pacific Ocean, encompassing an area from the Karimata and Malacca Straits to the Strait of Taiwan of around 3,500,000 square kilometres. Location South of China East of Vietnam West of the Philippines East of the Malay peninsula and Sumatra, up to the Strait of Singapore in the western, and North and North East of Natuna Islands Why disputed? China claims most of the resource-rich South China Sea (Parcels Islands, Spratly Islands and Gulf of Tonkin), through which $5 trillion in shipping trade passes annually. Other countries claiming it are Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam. Tensions have been high over the Scarborough Shoal (a part of Spratly Islands) since Beijing seized it from Manila in 2012.

10 The Union Minister for Railways and Coal, Piyush Goyal inaugurated the first ever India Tourism Mart (ITM 2018) in New Delhi. The ITM was organized by the Ministry of Tourism from September 16 to 18, 2018 in partnership with the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH) and with support of State /UT Governments. Tourism Ministry aims to reach the ambitious goal of US$100 billion FTA receipts/year within 5 years. ITM will be an annual event hereafter in line with other International Tourism Marts and it will be held in the month of September.

12 The Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD launched the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar in The award honours the schools that have done exemplary work in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene. The Puraskar was launched as a follow up to the Swachh Vidyalaya Initiative launched in Five broad parameters: (i) Water (ii) Toilet (iii) Hand washing with Soap (iv) Operations and Maintenance (v) Behaviour Change and Capacity Building. Out of 52 Awardee schools, 37 schools are from rural areas and 15 from urban areas. 4 States (Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh) and 9 districts (Pondicherry, Srikakulam, Chandigarh, Hisar, Karaikal, Latur, Nellore, South Goa, Vadodara) awarded with Certificate of Recognition for having maximum number of schools awarded with National Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar.

The MoUs were signed following the talks between Indian Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Malta s President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. Naidu is the first senior Indian leader to visit the Mediterranean nation in last 28 years.

16 Germany on Sept 17, 2018 rolled out the world's first hydrogen-powered train. The trains were unveiled in Bremervoerde, the station where the trains will be refuelled with hydrogen. Two bright blue Coradia ilint trains have been built by French TGV-maker Alstom. Key Features Hydrogen trains are equipped with fuel cells that produce electricity through a combination of hydrogen and oxygen. In this process, the engine leaves steam and water as the only emissions. Excess energy is stored in ion lithium batteries on board the train. The Coradia ilint trains can run for around 1,000 kilometres on a single tank of hydrogen, similar to the range of diesel trains.
