2 INFO Organized by: Research Group on Compositional Data Analysis and other Restricted Sample Spaces, whose acronym is CODA-RSS. Dates/Timetable: July / 15:30-19:30, including 30' for coffeebreak. Language: English. Instructors from CODA-RSS research group: C. Barceló, M. Comas, J. Daunis, J.A. Martín, G. Mateu, and S. Thió. Contents/Programme: Hypothesis underlying statistical data analysis. The Aitchison geometry of the simplex. Coordinate representation; distributions on the simplex. Exploratory analysis. Linear processes in the simplex; regression. Introduction to multivariate analysis: cluster and discriminant. For more details, have a look on the Programme INFO document. Material: PDF files and paper copy of slides and lab exercises will be provided. Software: Exercises are mainly done with the freeware CoDaPack 2.01 [ The package "R-Commander", a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the statistical environment R, is also used for more demanding statistical techniques, as linear regression. For more details, have a look on the Software INFO document. Practicals: Attendants are strongly encouraged to bring their own laptops for practicals with the software previously installed. If some assistant is unable to bring any laptop or has troubles to install the software, please contact us at webmaster@compositionaldata.com. Open seminar sessions: Assistants are encouraged to bring their own data sets and state those questions that would like to be answered during the course. 4 Venue: How to get to Girona: information at the UdG website From GIRONA AIRPORT to GIRONA CENTRE: Girona Costa Brava Airport is located 11 km away from the city of Girona, 90 km from the catalan capital Barcelona and 30 km from the mediterrean sea, the Costa Brava. Most of the flights to Girona are operated by Ryanair ( where the Girona airport is called Barcelona Girona airport. BUS Airport - Girona: Journey duration: 30 minutes. Timetable: - from the airport [outside the terminal turn right towards the bus parking lot; 50meters], every hour from 5:30am to 0:30am. - from Girona Bus station, every hour from 5:00am to 0:00am. Price: approx. 2.5Euros TAXI: approx. 25Euros From BARCELONA AIRPORT to GIRONA CENTRE by BUS: Most the main companies and major low-cost companies operate in Barcelona-El Prat airport (e.g., Lufthansa, Iberia, Air France, British Airways, Ryanair, Easyjet). There are only three connections/day between Barcelona airport and Girona centre [timetable: 8.15am; 2.15pm; 9.30pm] but it is a very good option to approach the venue for those arriving late to the BCN airport. Bus company: ALSA. More info: One way ticket: 22 approx. From BARCELONA AIRPORT to BARCELONA CENTRE: Barcelona Airport is located south-west of the city of Barcelona (approx. 12Km). There are two terminals T1 and T2. Most of the lowcost companies operate in terminal T2. TAXI: expensive, approx. 30Euros ~ 3 ~

5 BUS: Airport bus leaves both from terminal T1 and terminal T2 and goes directly to the centre of Barcelona. There are 4 main stops in the centre: Plaça Espanya, Urgell, Plaça Universitat and Plaça Catalunya. Upon leaving the airport, head straight to the bus stop and you will see a light-blue bus, with the word Aerobús on it. When you are travelling from Plaça Catalunya to the airport, make sure that you take the right bus. A1 will take you to terminal T1 and A2 will take you to terminal T2. The number of each bus is written on the front. Line R2 North Airport - Sant Celoni [ Barcelona/en/InfoPractica_FP/ / /Localtrains.html?other= ] Train station at airport: The train station at the airport is situated opposite T2, and is connected to this terminal via an airbridge. There is also a bustransit service between the Renfe station and T1. Recommended itinerary: Go from Airport to Barcelona "Passeig de Gràcia" Station (4 th stop). Most of the services continue to Sant Celoni station. Journey duration: from airport to Barcelona Passeig de Gràcia, 27minutes. Timetable: From the airport, from 05:42am to 11:38pm. 6 Price: 2.50 approx (1 Renfe zones) From BARCELONA CENTRE to GIRONA CENTRE: 5.1 BUS: Bus Station ''Barcelona Nord'' (Barcelona) to Girona: Timetable: 6:30; 8:45; 14:30; 17:30; 19:00. Journey: 1h:30min One way ticket: 12Euros (on board the bus). 5.2 TRAIN: From Barcelona Passeig de Gràcia station to Girona Timetable: Travel time approx. 1h 20min. One way ticket: from 9.90 A very important recommendation: when you take the train at the Barcelona airport it is better to buy the ticket for the complete journey Barcelona Aiport to Girona. Then, when you arrive to Barcelona Passeig de Gràcia station, you only have to change to the train Barcelona- Girona, in the same platform.
