2 Pushing the Boundaries of Volunteering At African Impact, we believe in the power of volunteering and have seen the amazing things volunteers can achieve; we believe in Africa and all that this inspiring continent can offer to the world; and we believe in the passionate people who work with us - and alongside us - to create tangible, positive impacts and change lives. We re a multi-award winning volunteer travel organization running and managing our own meaningful and responsible volunteer projects and internship programs all over Africa. We started with only a handful of volunteers in 2004 and have since grown into the African leaders in volunteer tourism, having facilitated over 12,000 volunteers and interns in 12 countries across the continent. We are proud to offer fun, safe and structured placements where volunteers understand their contribution to responsible projects that are run in partnership with local communities and conservation efforts. Our journey so far has been both inspiring and humbling and we will keep pushing the boundaries of what volunteering can achieve. 4 The beginning of 2016 saw the launch of 3 new Gender Equality volunteer programs in South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia, which have already helped 226 young women todate. By improving their education, knowledge of women s rights and guiding them to make more informed choices, our volunteers are empowering a new generation of leaders. Volunteers on our Wildlife Conservation programs in Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa, contributed to 3590 hours of active reserve management assistance by removing invasive plants species, building erosion fences, clearing litter, creating new roads and snare sweeps, of all which improve the ecosystem for the wildlife living there. We gave a significant kick-start to the education of children at pre-schools across Africa, tackling the United Nation s Sustainable Development Goal 4#: Quality Education. In total, volunteers spent 7337 hours devoting their time to early childhood development in Tanzania, South Africa and Zimbabwe. In our mission to support the United Nation s Sustainable Development Goal #14, Life Under Water, our Zanzibar volunteers undertook 816 hours of researching dolphintourist interactions to provide information to the Institute of Marine Science to build a case for regulation of dolphin tourism. This has now progressed to providing workshops to tour boat drivers to improve their practices. We also put a powerful emphasis on the importance of adult education; a tool to combat poverty. In Tanzania alone, volunteers spent 1020 hours delivering adult English and literacy lessons to community members and the Maasai tribe; essential for improving their job opportunities. On our Lion Conservation initiatives, 2867 hours worth of research into to the Ngamo pride (a semi-wild pride living on our volunteer program at Antelope Park) has provided incredible results. We are now looking to release a small family of lions into the wild. Further time was devoted to female empowerment at women s support groups in Zanzibar, generating 450 hours of time spent creating and growing sustainable income initiatives that support the women and their families. We were pleased to be able to refurbish classrooms, provide accessibility ramps, install playgrounds and improve homes and educational facilities across all of the countries where we facilitate volunteer projects, significantly improving the quality of life for many communities living in poverty. Outside of the classroom, volunteers worked tirelessly for 4020 hours to provide education and social care to street children in Zimbabwe. Let s make the next 4 year even better!

5 TEACHING & EDUCATION PROGRAMS Share your passion for people and love of teaching in South Africa s iconic city of Cape Town as you work with underprivileged inner-city communities, teaching and caring for disadvantaged children and creating fun learning activities. Spend two weeks in the beautiful city of Cape Town, volunteering your time to teach underprivileged children and help keep youth off the streets before spending your second week on a backpacking tour of the world-famous Garden Route! 9 SPORTS & COACHING PROGRAMS Many children in the disadvantaged communities and townships of Cape Town have little opportunity to participate in sporting activities necessary for physical development and important in learning social and life skills. Use your sporting skills and passion to change these kids lives and send them on to a better future. Put your passion for sport to good use as you educate and coach community school pupils and local sports teams. With limited resources and skills in physical education, your input can make a huge difference in increasing morale, health and instilling life skills in the local community. 10 ORPHAN & CHILD CARE PROGRAMS Travel to sunny South Africa and experience life in the stunning coastal holiday town of St Lucia when you volunteer on this diverse community project. Assist impoverished local communities with hands-on work in the fields of education, building, farming and HIV/AIDS education, and take advantage of the local beaches and wildlife reserves in your free time. 12 MEDICAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS Experience the raw beauty of Africa when you volunteer in a rural Zulu village in South Africa. Provide vital medical and healthcare support at local clinics, deliver HIV/AIDS education workshops and assist with nutrition and physiotherapy projects. Enjoy the local beaches and nearby wildlife reserves in your free time. Most of Zimbabwe's hospitals and clinics have been severely affected by the past economic situation and suffer from a shortage of healthcare staff and supplies. 15 WILDLIFE CONSERVATION PROGRAMS Monitor and study the African Big 5 (leopard, rhino, lion, buffalo and elephant) and assist local wildlife foundations with the protection of endangered and at-risk species. In experiencing the majesty of African wildlife on a daily basis, you ll play your part in making sure that future generations get to do the same. Join African Impact research teams on game reserves within the Greater Kruger Area of South Africa, to collect data, track, survey and monitor the elusive at-risk predators in this iconic and stunning landscape. Assist with conservation efforts in Kenya's Masai Mara by monitoring wildlife and conducting important research. As a wildlife volunteer, you will go out on research drives to do game counts, document big cat sightings, and assist with teaching and other development work in the local community. 15

17 LION CONSERVATION PROGRAMS Join the frontline of wildlife conservation in Africa s adventure capital; Victoria Falls. Get up close and personal with large predators as you undertake vital tracking, monitoring and data-capturing activities in the iconic Zambezi National Park. Travel to the world-famous Victoria Falls and join a ground-breaking initiative to restore Africa s dwindling wild lion populations. 18 DOLPHIN & MARINE PROGRAMS Travel to the tropical island paradise of Zanzibar and contribute to the sustainable management of vital marine resources. Assist with researching dolphins in their natural habitat, study the impacts of tourism on dolphin behaviour and discover a new underwater world collecting data on coral reefs. Discover amazing Mozambique; home to an array of turtles, whales, manta rays and one of the world s largest populations of whale sharks. 19 I have thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering with African Impact I feel like I have helped with some valuable research and made an impact on the community of Jambiani and Kizimkazi. My whole trip was extremely fun and I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in dolphins or scientific research, as well as anyone wanting to travel somewhere new.
