10 10 Government Gazette 15 November 1994 No FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR'S RATING 4.1 The candidate must be the holder of at least a valid Commercial Pilot Licence issued in terms of the Air Navigation Regulations 1976, as amended, or have passed the technical examinations for the Commercial Pilot Licence. 4.2 FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR ENDORSEMENT 4.3 An applicant that applies for the turbopropeller and turbojet endorsement, shall: (a) be the holder of a valid flight instructor's rating issued in terms of the Air Navigation Regulations 1976, as amended; (b) have completed an approved course of training; (c) pass a written examination in: (i) theory of high altitude flight; and (ii) the application of aero-medicine to high altitude flying; and (d) pass a practical flight instructor's test conducted by an official examiner or by a person designated in writing by the Director. 5. The attendance of a ground school course with regard to the specific examination entered for is strongly recommended.

Cheques and postal orders must be crossed and be payable to the Permanent Secretary: Works, Transport and Communication. 7.3 If payment is made by cheque and a bank refuses to accept or honour such cheque, the applicant's application will be considered cancelled and he will not be allowed to write the examination. 8. The payment of fees can only be done at the offices of the Civil Aviation Directorate. 9. Regulation 1.16 of the Air Navigation Regulations, 1976 as amended, stipulates that both the written application and payment for an examination entry must be received on or before the relevant closing date. 10. Late applications up to one week later than the closing date, will permit the Director: Civil Aviation to consider the merits of late applications, provided the applicants pay an additional fee for such late application which is equivalent to the relevant prescribed examination fee. 11. The above are formal examinations, conducted in accordance with customary examination procedures and requirements, as well as specific Departmental instructions which are supplied to candidates beforehand. Candidates must also please note that the use of programmable calculators/ computers in these examinations are not permitted. 12. After 31 December 1994 Senior Commercial Pilots' Licences are no longer valid. Holders of such licences or the technical examinations for such licences will have until 31 December 1997 to obtain Airline Transport Pilots' Licences after which the subjects will lapse and candidates will be required to rewrite such subjects. 13. AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE ENGINEERS: TECHNICAL EXAMINATIONS: Technical examinations for the acquisition of an AME licence, any addition thereto or the extension of such a licence, will be held on the following dates:
